    thank you!

I’ll try repeating cues, I agree it might work better for us 🙂 Especially with me ‘at times’ giving the wrong one first LOL

re: timing with low bars vs timing with bars up. IF it ever cools down here, do you think we should try what ‘we think we know already’ with bars up? He is going to be jumping 20, Preferred – not 24.

    >>On the last blind, I think you can give him even ore independence: Draw a line in the dirt for yourself to *not* go past
I was going to draw that line on screenshot but I don’t see how I can attach a screenshot here? Just to make sure I understand it right 🙂

fun from today – ‘wet dog Agility’ 🙂
Week 3 Wingin’ It: Countermotion Commitment

this is our 2nd session on it; first one I was sending him without me ‘leaving’. Not including on video now but I can post later if needed

(Golden decided to join today – typically she doesn’t leave “her pool” – or if she does, she can be on her mat there just waiting/eating treats. But today Golden was ‘annoying’ so I put her inside. Just saying that ‘typically’ Golden is not ‘getting on our way’)

    >>If you did want the RCs
LOL! Yes all those you ‘questioned’, were suppose to be FC.
Poor Fly! And thank you, now I see how it looked like RC to him!

    ———

    “Weather people” lied to us…
It was showing 76F but it was 82 at 7PM 🙁 Was cooler at my place so this is why we went, and I even didn’t take his cool coat.

So we were there for 10 mins at most, with all you see on video is all we did. I didn’t tried ‘anything new’ because of this weather

So we tried ‘lines’ again, with me trying to remember to
-continue moving when sending him with ‘go’
-slow down earlier on front- crosses. And yes, he was wrapping ‘correct’ wing this time 🙂

On the last FC rep, I ‘screwed up’ with cue, I told him ‘Go’ first – Oops. Just mentioning that I know that

BC to tunnel (I wanted to setup with 2 jumps instead of tunnel but the way the field is setup now, there was no room. With AFrame and teeter at the middle, I was afraid one of us will run into those)

First rep – I ‘forgot’ about 2nd tunnel; I guess because I was pretty happy with how he did
2nd rep, I turned and switched hands too soon. So I guess he did exactly what I ‘showed’ him to do

But overall, wow I think I can be pretty much be ‘standing in the same spot’ and he’ll do ‘all the running’ 🙂

    >>What I will do for this class is extend it deeper into September, so people can finish the games without worrying about the weather.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! Really appreciate you doing that!

    >>There are other classes coming up in Sept/October but we will give everyone time to finish this one
Looking forward to see what’s ‘coming next’ and hope that will be something that will work for us and we can sign in 🙂

Startline – yes, we have a ‘routine’. I ‘wanted’ a ‘routine’ because….well… Golden 🙂 But now I see how ‘routine’ can play against us so will try to be ‘less predictable, thank you!

    >>Keep moving forward as you say the verbal like you did at :21
I know about that and I keep forgetting that! UGH. Thank you for pointing it out.

    >>I thought you were cuing a rear cross, and so did he. It was the lack of deceleration moving forward
    Oops. Poor Fly!
You can see more of those in the video below, that video is from the same day so maybe the same things. But maybe it was for different reason there.

    >>On these front cross wraps – do you have a wrap verbal cue?
Yes, it’s ‘check’. I think I was using it but maybe I was using ‘over – check’ so by the time he heard ‘check’ it was ‘late’

If we ‘get lucky’ with the weather and can go to AG yard, do you think it would be better to work on games we haven’t tried yet, or work on those we did try, BC to tunnel and Straight lines? I was thinking about trying again ‘BC to tunnel (with 2 jumps or wings instead of actual tunnel) and straight lines again, based on your feedback for previous videos.

And here is the video of using toy reward. ‘Crazy Fly’ 🙂 “If toy flied forward first time, it sure WILL BE thrown forward 2nd time”

    Thank you!

    UGH for the weather… 70 at 7PM was ‘one-time-thing’. Its back to ’normal high-90 to 100+’ now…

I feel so upset that we can’t do much for this class now because of stupid weather:( Are there other AG classes planned as ‘working’ later this year?

Previous video, BC to tunnels – if we can get to AG field later this week, I want to try this setup again but without tunnel so we can do more reps. Suggestions how to set it up without tunnel? I was thinking 2 jumps in-place of tunnel (so he does 180 on those jumps for ‘first’ tunnel, and BC to jump on ‘2nd tunnel’ )

This video – some of “Concept Transfer: Straight Lines, Four Ways’ (from few days ago when weather was nice)

I’m impressed with his speed and ‘happiness’! it’s amazing how much me slightly turning to him changes the way he runs! I did know about ‘connection’ before this class but I was thinking if I SEE the dog, all is good. I see now there is more than just ‘eye contact’!

Start of video – ‘breaking startling’. I was so upset, he is usually so good about it…. But honestly I didn’t plan to post this ‘broken startline’, I noticed that I forgot to trim it only after this video was uploaded

“Go forward” – oh how much he is looking at me 🙂

‘backside send’, we did one- but we know we’ll work on it using ‘backside’ class

0:52 front-class. IDK if I did something to cause him to wrap the other wing, or it’s just his ‘favorite direction’….

0:59 – was trying to figure out how early I can turn. Well, that was too early

End of video – rear crosses. Those I think I do better than other crosses. Because those are the only crosses I was able to get with my ‘crazy Golden’ who was always ‘miles ahead’ of me. (‘crazy Golden’ my ‘Novice A’ dog and so far the only dog I competed in AG with. But we only got Novice JWW, 2 legs in Novice STD and Exc FAST. Sure becaue in FAST, she can run her own course and still Q LOL Just mentioning so you see how much (not much!) experience I have with Ag…)

I also have a video with him on other side of me AND me using a toy as a reward. That was ‘wild’! I will post it later, didn’t want to do one long video since we aren’t going to do much AG in the next few days

    Thank you!

    >>You can also change games for now – the straight line 4 ways game is great for jumps only

Thank you for mentioning it. I thought we should work on it ‘in-order’ so haven’t even looked at other games before you mentioned it!

    >> You can plan based on how the tunnel is set up so you don’t need to move it.
Haha. Video below – you can see what my problem with current ring setup is 🙂

Thank you for info about other classes! Any chances that ‘weave’ class will run sometimes soon as ‘working’? And do you know if this class will available to get later – or if we want it, we need to buy it now? Asking because my weather now is sure ‘not a weave poles training weather’, and I need to buy a set of weaves so we can’t train it now anyway and will buy it later if it will be available to buy later. If not – we will get it now!

And speaking of weaves, you mentioned
“And there are 2 tracks (2×2 and channels) so we end up going with whatever the dog finds makes more sense to him”
    — is there a way to figure out which one Fly would prefer before buying weaves? We did train on 2×2 originally but I haven’t tried channels before and maybe his ‘preferred way’ is channel 🙂

And we got ‘backside’ class! Something to train on backyard when the weather is too hot to go anywhere.
    —
    Video below:
So we went to AG field. It was BEAUTIFUL, 70 degrees and breeze! Look – no cooling coat on LOL.

We tried “straight line 4 ways game” you suggested, and BC to the tunnel from
Bonus Concept Transfer: Send And Go, and BC to the Tunnel

On video is only BC to the tunnel; I’ll post straight line games later this week; didn’t want to post long video and also we won’t be able to get to AG field at least until weekend.

BC to tunnel – You can see ‘my problem’ with that setup. He doesn’t ‘differentiate’ between tunnel and AFrame AND he likes AFrame more. Because AFrame we trained more so “it was paying him” more. But I kind of glad we had this ‘setup problem’ because that ‘forced us’ to work on it.

Also on video Fly’s favorite ‘reward’ 🙂 He really loves personal play; I don’t use it often with how ‘big’ he plays LOL but I think ‘good puppy’ deserved it here 🙂

    Thank you!

Honestly I was pretty impressed how FAST he was at those times when he was fast!

    questions:
if we’re ‘lucky’ with weather tomorrow and will get to AG field, suggestion what to use instead of tunnels for this “week 2 Concept Transfer: “Fluffy” Blind Crosses and Front Crosses” and next games there (Send And Go, and BC to the Tunnel, and Rear crosses)

Depending how the course at the field is setup, I might not be able to move the tunnel to do setup we need; and even if setup there works with tunnel, I’ll probably do only a very few reps with tunnel with him 🙂

Should we do 1 jump in-place of tunnel, or something else?

2nd question, unrelated to this class but related to your other classes here 🙂
So I was looking for ‘weaves’ class. I see “MaxPup Obstacle Skills Series: Weaves!” but I’m not sure if that’s what we need or there is or will be a better class for what we need?

He does 6 weaves. By itself, when it’s the only thing we’re working on. Any speed, even just 1 jump before weaves – and it’s 50/50. He either can’t collect before weaves so skips the first one. Or he exists early.

another class question. “[AU-033] The Handler’s Toolbox: Super Independent Backside Sends!”
    – Backside sends is something I had to ‘babysit’ even with Golden 🙂 So I think *I* need this class for Fly! And it says it will work in small space. But from what you saw on our ‘backyard videos’, do you think I have enough space on backyard for this class?

and last question. Forum related. Do you know if it’s possible to have this forum showing ‘latest’ posts first? Maybe it’s some option in settings or under account that I just can’t find 🙂 For me it is showing from earliest to latest so have to scroll down all the way to read latest reply. Not a big deal but I feel like it must be ‘there somewhere’ and I just can’t find how to change it…

We got to play in AG Yard!
It was 80 degrees, so with cooling jacket on and him still being a bit wet from pool earlier, I think it was decent weather for him.

We tried again ‘week 1’ games and then “week 2 Concept Transfer: “Fluffy” Blind Crosses and Front Crosses”

First rep – just running circle, nothing more
2nd – wrap. BTW when we late tried front-crosses, I wasn’t sure what is the difference between ‘wraps’ from week 1 and ‘front-crosses’ from week 2. In other words – which one I’m doing wrong LOL because they look the same to me

Then we tried blind crosses. LOL – should I mention that blind cross is NOT something we had done often before? My Golden is fast (for me), Danes too, so I’m typically behind – means my ‘favorite’ and most-used cross is rear-cross 🙂

So you can see me ‘struggling’ on video trying to figure it out 🙂 And after 2 ‘unsuccessful’ attempts I just put him into his crate and walked it without him few times 🙂

Starting from 0:42 is after I walked it again and tried again with him.

He does it! He is slow but it’s either because he is doing it first time OR I’m not handling it right

End of video – front crosses. I think 🙂

2 times where I ‘lost him’ – at first I though because he is hot or tired or it was too many reps on the same setup; but looking at it again I think because I lost a connection with him.

I hope next time we can go to the yard Tuesday. If weather forecast is not laying to us 🙂

“Wet Dog Agility” again 🙂 It was finally under 90 AND cloudy, and he was ‘wet and happy’ 🙂
-ignore my ‘outfit’ and hair please… because ‘after pool’ is the only way we can do anything outside in this weather

on video – another try on “The Lazy Game Parts 2 and 3: More Action” and some “Concept Transfer: Wraps!”

and yes he seems to be significantly more happy when I’m moving with him vs ‘sending’ him while standing.

and yes we have ‘get it’ marker, IDK why I was using ‘yes’ instead in previous session. Thank you for pointing it out!

weather forecast shows 78 tomorrow at 7PM. Maybe we can try AG yard tomorrow… Wish they have pool there LOL so we can do ‘wet dog agility’. What makes it harder with him is that he doesn’t like being sprayed with water from hose or water bottle so I can’t cool him down with it. But I guess I can use cooling coat

It ‘cooled down’ here for one day, was ‘just 90’ today. Going back to 100 tomorrow but today we got to ‘get outside’ LOL

“Wet dog Agility”. ‘Get into the pool, get out of the pool and setup the jumps; back to the pool. Get out of the pool and run few reps; back to the pool”.

Not sure how productive it was because while he was ‘in the game’, I feel like I was doing it all wrong… My hand is too high, that I know but I’m sure that wasn’t the only ‘problem’ on my part 🙂

    – Suggestions about setup? We can’t go to Agility field because of this weather, and on backyard, that’s ‘all’ space I have. I was using wing instead of tunnel but my tunnel is actually only 10-feet so maybe it’s better to put tunnel (on ‘far’ side of the yard)?

thank you! Another attempt on ‘forward focus’; of course the jump is blocking the view, but hope you can see where he is looking.

it actually cooled down tonight; by 7:30PM it was ‘manageable’ outside (after the pool :)) But Fly is ‘not an evening person’, by 7:30 PM he is ‘pretending to be a rug’ and just waiting for his dinner 🙂 So no luck with trying week 2 games…

110F today. 105 tomorrow. Then it ‘cools down’ to 95-98 for a few days, then goes back to over 100. But seems like next Monday (week over from today, not this coming Monday) forecast shows below 90F, so hopefully we will be able to ‘get out of the house’ LOL I’m so ‘done’ with this summer…

‘today we like the toy’ so we did some ‘forward focus’ indoor. I had a ‘leash’ for the toy ready, thank you for suggestion about adding rope on the toy, will keep that in our ‘toolbox’ but today he was happy about the toy ‘as is’

sometimes he was going around the wing ‘wrong way’ but I think that won’t be a problem with actual jump.

Sometimes it was ‘hard’ to get him to look at it without toy behind the wing.

Few times he was ‘releasing himself’ from stay before I release him – but that I think was more of the ‘confusion’ on his part. He has VERY GOOD ‘startline stay’. I wasn’t able to trial much with my Golden because I don’t run – and she doesn’t have startline stay, so we worked ‘hard’ on his startline. I think he was ‘confused’ here if I send him or not vs ‘breaking the stay’

    Thank you!

We’re still at 100_ temperatures – 107 tomorrow, 103 next day:( But at least it should start to cool down by the evenings and after 4 more days of “100+”, it goes to high 90 – so hopefully in a few days it will be cool enough in the evenings to do something outside…

Inside I tried focus games – but that’s all carpeted area I have inside… Just not much space.

I realized I wasn’t doing what you suggested to do, I should have get him ‘focused’ on a wings before sending

So the reason I’m posting this video not to get your feedback for ‘forward focus’, but to show our ‘motivation’ problem! He demonstrated it perfectly here 🙂

“I want this black toy, lets play with it’
“oh, no, now I “maybe” want another toy”
    “or maybe food”
    “or maybe toy”
“oh you didn’t realized I wanted other toy??”

(Typically he isn’t ‘as hard’ about that, but I think he wasn’t ‘too excited’ about wing inside the house to begin with, so then reward wasn’t ‘as excited’ either)

Our weather is being ‘cruel’ – over 100 for next 5 days and then high 90 as far as I can see 🙁 still over 90 at 8PM….

so I guess we’ll skip AG and wait until the weather gets better. Unless you have suggestions what useful (from this class) we can do inside? Just asking if anything for the class can be done inside; in general we have our ‘101 ways of entertain the dogs inside when it’s 100 degrees’ 🙂

    Thank you!

Tunnels – I got water and I think last time I used bungee cords. Will try that – when we can ‘get outside’ again.

10 days weather forecast shows high 90 to 105. UGH. So I guess we’re stuck inside 🙁

    >>When he is struggling with motivation, what is happening? What are you seeing in the session or as distractions?

With Agility, it’s primary his speed. He ‘can’ be fast and is fast when he wants to 🙂 But often times he is slow and like “I can do it but I’m not that excited to do it”. It’s not on videos I posted so far; usually if he is ‘bored and slow’, I don’t train AG, I stop and either try get him ‘more excited’ or we just don’t do it.

Interesting that in in-person class, with other dogs in the class, he is much better – faster.

In general, he is not very food motivated. Toys he likes more so I often use toys – but at times toy doesn’t make him ‘happy’ too, or all of the sudden, he decides he wants food instead 🙂

And really his motivation is actually ‘better’ in AG than if we try to do OB/Rally. Even when I’m trying to make OB/Rally fun with lots of rewards and just asking him for easy things. Mentioning this not because asking to help with motivation with OB/Rally! But to say that AG he likes more, his motivation isn’t ‘that bad’. But seeing a dog ‘walking’ to the next jump with “do I really need to do it’ face is discouraging at times 🙂

    —
Fun from yesterday. After a ‘great fall’ from teeter, I think ’Plank Confidence” games will be very helpful for him 🙂 Even with us not doing dog-walk. And we’re in our cabin now where I HAVE a board – that was made for Golden years ago. And it’s cooler here! (but we’re going back to ‘100F+ degree summer home’ today)

It’s pretty much on the ground, very low and I think too low for him, but this board is light weight and I’m afraid can brake under his weight if I put it higher. But when we back home, I can get a better plank for him and use something to raise it.

Turning on it – LOL. I don’t think it is happening!
    – and I’m pretty sure Golden is laughing there at us 🙂

    -and walking on it.

    >>That can really increase motivation – you also noticed how sometimes he just went faster and faster when he didn’t get the reward

Yes I noticed it and I was so happy with it! “Motivation” is something we’re ‘struggling with’, he is not a ‘Golden Retriever” who will ‘work anywhere and everywhere and for anything’ LOL
Is ‘motivation’ also covered in this class, or that’s something that ‘will just come’ – as I saw yesterday with him! Or there is another class for that?

Our ‘beautiful 100+ degrees summer’ is back 🙁 I so wish I can go to AG field and try your suggestions, but we’ll have to wait with that until it cools down again…

Teeter – you know I’m actually glad that this ‘teeter fall’ happened as I was video-ing it and you were able to see it! Thank you!! I didn’t realize it was his head being high and him looking at my hand. I’ll use reward in-front of teeter instead of in my hand.

    This video: Wingin’ It.
I’m using 2 wings instead of tunnel
I don’t have more wings so using jumps without bars in-place of ‘wings’ in setup.
I’ll try with tunnel next (need to figure out how to stabilize it, I don’t have tunnels bags and since the tunnel is 26 inches, can’t find where to get those)
