ParticipantMy follow up to the Stealth exercise – this time we were a little more coordinated! – we went the other way this time. I started close, and then gradually moved back a little each time I moved the bowl further around the cone. It was hard to see if he was actually looking at his line, rather than the bowl – but I think he was.

ParticipantThis is video of our attempt at the Stealth 2 game. I found it difficult to get coordinated in the beginning – trying to hold puppy, while putting the treat in the bowl was a challenge – you’ll see this at the beginning. But using a treat as a lure helped I think, and the last reps went a bit better.

ParticipantOur second attempt at the prop game. This time I made sure to focus on him, rather than the prop, when releasing him, and I think that helped as there was no barking, or biting the prop this time.

ParticipantHere is my follow up on the Collar Grab – this time I found that he wasn’t looking to bite my hands, and I was able to grab his collar right away. I positioned him by my side, and he automatically sat – he was happy to let me keep hold of his collar while I threw the toy and then released him.

ParticipantIn this video i am sending Arrow to the foot target (a childs puzzle), which i had previously taught him to touch with his paw.

ParticipantThis video shows the Collar Grab game. at first Arrow thought i was presenting my hand to him for him to chew on, so i had to wait for him stop trying to bite it before i could get near to his collar. I started off just putting my hand near his neck, but i was able to grab his collar by the end of the session, especially with the toy.

ParticipantToday we tried the Blind cross game. I found I was not very coordinated for this, as I found it difficult to use my opposite hand to present the toy – so I’m really not sure if I was getting this right…
PS – poor Yowza was banished to the house today.

ParticipantHere is our video of the first step of Foundations for wing wrap. We have done the wing wrapping part before, and Arrow does know how to wrap a cone, but maybe it could be tighter. We plan to work through all the steps again.
And here is our effort at Goat Tricks 1. I love this concept! – I could see how much harder it was for Arrow to think about offering behaviors when he was aroused from the toy play – so I think this will be very good for him for his future agility training.

ParticipantHere’s my first 2 videos – Driving ahead, and Driving to handler. I did both with food, and then toys, but for the driving ahead, I think maybe I should have put the toy on a long-line, as he didn’t bring it back right away – but Yowza didn’t help – she got pretty excited with the toy play and kept leaving her “place”
PS – Arrow’s Daddy is Roxane Pardiac’s “Chit Chat” from Canada

ParticipantHere are videos of the Week 5 games, which we attempted during several sessions over the last 3 days. We started off doing soft turns, increasing the jump height, but unfortunately I didn’t get that on video. The next day, we did same exercise with wraps, and we got to full jump ht (22″). She did better with the wraps than the soft turns, as she sometimes took the distraction jump with the soft turns.
With the frontside/backside combos, I thought she did quite well, although I’m not sure how much I was helping her with my feet.
I thought she did well with with the threadles and serps, though she had more difficulty coming in to threadles from the right turns, than from the left.

ParticipantWe repeated the Serp v Go game today. This time I sent her the correct way around the starting wing, and I tried to keep my path straight, but I think I might need more space, so that i can keep running ahead. She had a few bloopers, but got most of them right 🙂
We also repeated Game 3 – this time I tried to be more consistent with my arm cues for the turn away. She got them all correct, so I guess we’re ready to fade the arm cue 🙂

ParticipantThis first video is from a couple of days ago, when we did the first game for Week 4. I really tried to get the tone of my verbals right. I didn’t do so well with not saying “yes” (in any of the Wk 4 games), but I had my good moments. I thought Yowza did pretty well though! This was done over 2 sessions, as we were taking turns with Deb and Charm.
This is Game 2 from Week 4, which we did today in 2 sessions. She did better than I thought she would, though I noticed when I cued the serp jump with a verbal, I was also changing my path a little, so I think she may have been cuing off of that.
Game 3 from Week 4 – Independent wraps – also in 2 sessions – I think I may not have been helping her enough in the beginning, but I did add in a better arm cue after a few wraps, which I think helped.

ParticipantHaha! – I knew you’d get me for that high distraction jump! – I had totally overlooked it – as in this facility we’re not allowed to move the equipment, so I set my wing up next to the jump, but forgot to change the jump height – I did put it down when I noticed, but it did take me along time to notice it – didn’t it?!!
So basically I need to think more before I start each session – so that I can set it up with easier reps to start – I especially should have done that for the tunnel – but I was just being impulsive! – I’m lucky she puts up with me!Juliet Weissberg
Participant>>Nice facility in the first video! It looks like she was really able to grip the turf!
Yes, this is Mark Bill’s place (of Clip and Go agility) – it’s a really nice facility – I am lucky to live pretty close. We were back there again today, and we did more backside wraps – this time I increased the angle of approach, and I couldn’t resist sending her from the tunnel, as it was right there.
Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantToday we repeated the backside wrap game – this time with me increasing the speed, with the wing 6ft away from the jump. I was really happy with how this went, especially as this was not previously in Yowza’s verbal repertoire. Are we ready to replace the wing with a jump?
Will this also need to be “balanced” with frontside verbal cues?
I guess the more difficult discrimination will be with the backside slice, as I can see back-jumping happening if they don’t have a clear understanding of the difference….
Later, we repeated backside slice v frontside wraps balance exercise – this time I tried to move forward as soon as I released her, and I tried to increase my speed, as much as I could, without jumping over the jump myself – ha!
