ParticipantWell, it seems the first video I posted in my last reply was again NOT the correct one – so sorry – I don’t know what’s going on – I think something must have got mislabeled on Youtube. So I’m going to skip it for now.
Here is a short video showing our attempt at getting the 3rd sequence right. This time I got the correct side of jump #2, and I think I got the ending correct also. I think you’re right – it is easier this way!

ParticipantSorry I posted the wrong video in my last post – so this should be the correct one – this shows my repeat of Sequence 1, after your feedback, where I was trying to dial back the turning cues, and run more smoothly.
<<was there something out there she was looking at? Toy on the ground? Favorite obstacle? She was *convinced* that was the line LOL!!! >>
– no there was nothing at all out there that she likes – I think, b/c we’d already done that outlying jump once, she just liked to swing right out to a jump going that way – LOL!
Today we ran the 2nd sequence again, and this time I went back to using the L and R verbals, and less physical collection cues – I think this went much better 🙂 – I hope you think so too.
Then we tried the 3rd sequence, so this is our baseline, although I missed out jump #9. She did better than I thought she would – only missed the first backside (to that outlying jump), and I think that was b/c I wasn’t connected to her enough.

ParticipantThank you so much for the great feedback – I’ve got a lot to work on! So I am really struggling with the verbals right now – I had taught her right and left wrap (check and digga), right and left soft turn (right and left), but I had recently changed my mind and decided not to discriminate L and R, and just have a verbal for a wrap (check) and a soft turn (ch, ch,) b/c I’m not trusting myself to say the correct cues during a trial. However – you will see in the second video here (Sequence 2) that Yowza seems to be confused by my cues for a wrap to the L, but when I said “digga, digga” she got it right away – so now I’m thinking may be better if I stick to Plan A, and go back to using the L&R verbals. And, by the way, “jump” is my generic cue for take the jump ahead of you as fast as you can (i.e. no collection), and “go” means take the jump/s straight ahead of you, even though I’m falling behind.
I repeated the first sequence, this time trying to use less turning cues, and using L and R collection verbals. You’ll see in both videos that she shot out of the tunnel and went straight to the adjacent jump 10, even when I was trying to cue jumps 13 to 14.
Then we tried the second sequence, but had a problem with the wrap, as I already mentioned, then after the exit of the tunnel at the end of the sequence.

ParticipantHi Tracy – its been a few weeks since I last posted, which is shocking for me, but there’s a lot going on right now (even though I’m now retired, with no husband to look after LOL!). We tried the Sequences from Game Package 2, as I have been working on Yowza’s collection for turns – but I hope I am not teaching her to go slow – please guide me here – I do not want to teach her to slow down too much because I am teaching her to collect too much!
Here is our baseline for Exercise 1 – she had the bar down after the tunnel the 2nd time round – I’m not sure why.
I am thinking she maybe slowing down TOO much – what do you think?
Then we ran it again the next day (today) – I tried not to use so many collection cues – she took the off course on her 2nd time round – but took it when we repeated, when this time I added more collection cues. We repeated the whole sequence once more, where I added a spin for the last turn in to the tunnel, but I don’t think she really needed it….
PS – just realized, I forgot to send her to the last jump after the tunnel, which would have been in extension…..Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantOur first session yesterday was with 12 straight poles, with R side entries, and a few easy L side entries.
Later in the day we did the L side entries with just 6 poles. She did still find these entries difficult when I moved quickly right after I sent her. I am thinking I should try these next with just 4 poles, as you suggested.
>>I can switch you over: did you want a working spot? <<
Yes – I would to love to have a working spot for Yowza – thanksJuliet Weissberg
ParticipantYesterday we did another session of the End Position game – I started with her waiting at the end of the board, and then switched to having her hop onto the board – and I tried to add in a little movement. I also tried very hard not to say “yes” to her (but this is my clicker equivalent verbal – so she understands it as an automatic release, but I understand why I shouldn’t use it here) – but a few did slip in occasionally.
I thought this went quite well, so today we tried the the bang game again. She had some problems finding the treat in the grass – so I tried using the toy instead, but she still wanted to find her treats. In the end I got much better at throwing the treat right into her mouth – so then things went a bit better….

ParticipantContinuing to work on the end position – I followed your suggestion of asking her to wait at the end of the board, then walking away some distance, I released her and gave her the “hit it” cue. I thought we were more successful with this, as she kept her head focused forward, and I did my best to aim the treat at her mouth, or the target. What do you think?
Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantHere are our 2 sessions from today. She did better in the first than the second. I am trying to start walking/running as soon as I have sent her to the entry – but she is sometimes missing entry on L side if I am moving too fast – so I am playing around with that. In the 2nd session, she missed that entry a lot, so I slowed it down, and I didn’t put her through the second set of poles at all. Do you think I should open the poles up a bit?
Yes, I did sign up for “Putting it all Together” – I thought that was the sequel to these courses! – duh! – but I thought that the “Camp” was only for more experienced dogs – if you think Yowza could cut it, I would love to put her in it. Please lmk – thanks!Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantSo I’m still struggling with changing the end position for Yowza. This video is a little longer b/c I wanted to see some of the things I was struggling with. I made sure to keep the target in position, close to the end – but she wasn’t consistently stopping in position, so I simultaneously put the treat on the target as she hopped into position. Then I gradually started moving away a little, and if she stayed in position I rewarded her a lot – sometimes on target, sometimes throwing it to her to catch it, or releasing her with “ok” to get the treat. She stayed in position while I went to get more treats, so I rewarded her for that. I also rewarded her for looking forward, rather than at me. I think we are making some progress, so if you agree – I will move on to some of the other exercises as well.
When is the last day for posting videos? – I am hoping I can continue these games in the next Max Pup course 🙂
Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantHere are a couple of videos of the Box Cars we did over the weekend. I wasn’t sure if you meant for her to get rewarded after the 6th pole for all of the reps or not – so I started off rewarding after the 6th, then tried having her weave the 2nd set before rewarding. She had quite a few oopsies, but I think she’s getting it. We’ll do a couple more sessions tomorrow.
PS – I am wondering when this course finishes, and we can no longer post videos – I think it must be soon 🙁
Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantWell, I didn’t do a very good job of following your directions today – first, I forgot to do another session with box cars apart, increasing motion and difficulty of entries. Instead, I started out doing 1 rep with them 8ft apart (as in last session) – then I moved them in to 4ft apart for 2 reps, then put them together for 2 reps. that was the first session.
Then later in the evening, we did all reps with the poles together – I gradually started to increase my motion. She popped out at the 10th in 1 rep, so I dialed the motion back for following reps.
Dunno what happened to my brain today! 🙁
Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantWe did 2 sessions today – both with the Box Cars game – first she ran poles 7-12 and then 1 to 6 – we did one set with 1 to 6 followed by 7-12, given that she went straight in the entry of the 2nd box car the first time we did the first box car (1-6).
In the 2nd session, she did both box cars for the entire session.
Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantWe did 2 sessions today with 6 straight poles – the first with a tug toy for reward, and the second with frisbee and treat fro rewards, as you suggested. She did pretty well, with a couple or so oopsies, but she soon got it right when I dialed back the motion a bit.
Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantToday we tried the end position on the plank again – this time starting her from the side. When I added in some motion, I noticed that sometimes she stretched forward, but then when I walked back, she went into the bow position, but this time with her hind feet on the board, and front on the ground – is that OK? – in your last note you pointed out that she backed up into this position on the board, but is it OK with 2 feet off?
Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantToday I tried the End Position game on a board (with a little wobble from Fit-bones). I think maybe I should have gone back and watched your video of this, as I’m not sure at all whether I was doing this right – I think I should have been tossing the treat more – maybe good to use the MM here?
