ParticipantThis evening we repeated the poles almost straight, with pole 4 still a little out – trying more extreme entries and handler motion, as you suggested. We did these in 2 sessions, with about an hour rest inbetween.

Participant2 more short sessions today – in the first session I put poles 3 and 5 in to the center – I thought she did well, although I did place the toy for some of the reps, as she did not always focus forward until the end.
Later in the day, we started with poles 3 and 5 in, and then I moved #4 in as well – then she popped out a couple of times, so I moved #4 back out, but only a very tiny bit – she seemed OK with that.

ParticipantHi Tracy thank SO much for all your help with this. I’m off to Home Depot now to get paint and sand. Do you know how much sand one would mix in with a gallon of paint to get a good non-slippery surface? I’m going to try to get them to mix it for me…..

ParticipantWell, it looks like I need to put Yowza’s see-saw training on hold for a while – at least until I can get a better see-saw. I have a new see-saw on order from ClipnGo – but it will be at least 2 months before I get it. I could put rubber on my old one, or paint it, as you suggested – but I don’t have a sander to prepare surface for glue, or for painting (I am assuming you can’t just put it on over the old paint). I don’t have anyone here who can help me, as all my friends are in New York – haven’t been able to make many new friends here in MI b/c of Covid 🙁 – my neighbor might be able to help, but he is not there very often. So I may go out and get a sander, but I have never used one before – so I hope it’s easy. I would appreciate the info you have on type of paint and sand to get, or type of rubber. Probably repainting is the best way to go, seeing as this will only be temporary, until I get my new see-saw.
Also – I had a lesson yesterday with Marco, and he thinks the 2o2o would probably be better for Yowza, unless she loves the down (which she doesn’t particularly), with the “bang” of the teeter on the ground being the release cue. We didn’t actually do the teeter during the lesson though.
My idea of using the yoga mat was meant for the foot target only – but I guess if I switch to 2o2o, I won’t need the foot target…What do you think?Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantThanks for the reminder to limit number of reps in a session – bad momma!
So today we did 2 shorter sessions, as you suggested, keeping each session to just 10 reps – poles were in same positions, but adding more motion, moving in more directions. I thought she did really well – I was even able to move in the opposite direction, though you can definitely see her thinking more during these reps….

ParticipantTried the Bang game again yesterday – I think you can see that both of us are uncomfortable with this – Yowza seems unsure, I think b/c I’m unsure….. – also, I think my see-saw is rather slippery – its an old painted/sanded teeter – I’m hoping to get a new ClipnGo soon – but he is backordered 🙁 – so I don’t know what to do for now – I could lower the see-saw, so that it’s less angled. Also – I think I’ll try sticking a piece of yoga mat to my down target. Interested to hear what you think…..

ParticipantWe did 2 sessions today – the first with the poles the same as before – but somehow I lost the video of this – think I accidentally deleted it. Later we repeated – this time with the #4 pole in a little more. I thought she was doing well, so I added in some of the more difficult entries – she had fun with this game, after doing the Bang game on the see-saw, which she doesn’t like so much.
Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantStarted tightening up the poles today – put the 3rd and 5th poles in first, almost to the center line. She did pretty well with that, so then I tried putting in the 4th pole the same distance, but then she popped out at that pole, so put the 4th pole back, and after a couple of reps tried putting the 2nd pole in a tiny bit – she did OK with that. How do you think she did?

ParticipantToday I tried to follow your suggestions for the Bang game – clicking for focus forward – I clicked earlier, sometimes before she lay down. She was not thrilled with this game, as she’s not crazy about the MM, and it didn’t help that I brought the wrong one out – this one had boring kibble in it, whereas the other one has yummier treats.
Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantSo I took your advice here, and tried using the MM for the Bang it game. At first it didn’t seem to be working, as she was still looking at me, but then I moved it a bit closer – and right away she focused on that instead of me. She seemed to have more difficulty coordinating herself when she was getting on the R side of the see-saw and I was on her right.
I am in the process of making a wobble board (which may turn out to be more of a mini see-saw than a wobble board – but I think it will do) – just need to get a bracket to hold the pvc pipe underneath – then we can practice her end position on that too….

ParticipantToday we repeated the Find’em games, this time focusing more on the left side entries, with less handler motion, and with the poles tightened a little, so that she is now striding. Sorry part of the video is so dark (it didn’t seem that dark while we were out there). I didn’t use 2 toys for the right side entries – but tried to watch to see if she was looking at me. Lmk if you think I still need to do R side entries with 2 toys, as you suggested.
We will skip weave training tomorrow, and do our next session on Tuesday.

ParticipantToday we did the Bang game, followed by the Downhill game with the foot target. Trying to follow your suggestions, but not sure if this is quite right.

ParticipantOn Thursday we focused on the left side entries, with excitement and less motion, then adding in some “fake” motion, and then more speed. She did much better on the left side entries with these.
Then we tried the Find’em games – first weaving away from the target, and then after sends to wings. On these, she again had more difficulty with the Left side entries, especially when I tried to add more speed.
Today we tried the Combined Find’em games – Yowza had fun!
Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantOK – thank you for clarifying this – I will try this later today. In the meantime, we did Mountain climbers yesterday, without the foot target – but she had to stop for that one! – although she did fall off once 😫
I’ll post that video tonight, as I’m wondering if I should be using the foot target for that as well…..Juliet Weissberg
ParticipantSo I realized that for the Downhill 2 tables game, I should not have used the foot target, as she is supposed to automatically down when she hits that target, and for this exercise the end position is not required – so I did the next session without the target (I hope this was right). I added quite a bit more tip during this session.
