Today we worked on the Downhill track – Teeter tables 1. I had to use 2 chairs for this – I hope this was OK – because the treats were placed on the chair, she sometimes put one foot on the chair when she was getting the treat. She seemed pretty confident running on the plank though, including when the plank was tipping a little.

    – trying to post my Mountain Climbers video again…..

Today we repeated the first Mountain climber exercises – this time without a wobbly board. Unfortunately I didn’t read your second post until just now, and so I didn’t do a very good job of getting her off the side of the board when she was exiting, especially when she was leaping off. But we did do the send, and all of the crosses you suggested, and I thought she did OK – hope you think so too.
We did repeat these a little later with a board that moved about 4″ up and down – her performance was about the same, but unfortunately I forgot to turn the camera on 🙁

Wingit – Tunnel Yes/No/Go – for the most part, Yowza did this well when I did it well – haha! When she avoided the tunnel, she sometimes sneaked in the wrong side of me – probably my fault, and I kept throwing the toy out ahead of the tunnel, when I should have been rewarding her after she turned back toward me. She didn’t always get the tunnel when I sent her from the back, but I think she’s starting to get it.

We repeated the zig zag jumping game yesterday. Yowza seemed to do better when I had the 2 jumps almost in a straight line.

This is our attempt at the Wingin It – Tunnel threadles game. I have to say, I really felt like I was “wingin it” for this, as I wasn’t sure if I was using the right arm, etc, and I found I could only get Yowza to bypass the first tunnel entrance by calling her name – using my verbal for this (close) didn’t work, so I stopped using it…..
I did do the wing tandem turns as well, but forgot to turn the camera on 🙁 – we’ll try them again at the end of the week.

“On the first couple of tandems you got to the other side of the tunnel (makes it a little harder for you LOL!) but that is fine 🙂 On a few of them, you used the dog-side arm opening back and then at :34, you used the outside arm – to help keep it clear for her, I suggest using the dog-side arm opening back for threadle slices (where she would keep going) and use the outside arm for the tandem turn”
Thank you for helping me out here as I am struggling with which arm to use for tandem turns – and there’s a story to this….
    – in 2014 I went to One Mind camp, where I was in the beginner group taught by a certain brilliant Canadian coach. Janita had shown us how to do the TT using the dog-side arm, but my coach said it was OK to use the opp hand. I tried using the dog-side arm at first, but not very successful, so then switched to opp arm – this was working a little better, but then Janita happened to walk by and when she saw this she jumped in to show me how to do it properly with the dog-side arm – well, she had me drill this for about 15 minutes until I got it right – so now it it literally drilled into me to use the d-s arm, which is why I often alternate – b/c I’m trying to use opp arm, but keep resorting to d-s arm – though I now think that it would work much better for me to use the opp hand for TTs all the time. So I guess what I need to do is some “drills” where I use the opp arm all the time – only thing is, I think I need a robot dog to try this on, or I might drive poor Yowza insane…..

Today we tried the Concept transfer – Serps & stuff game for Wk 7. She surely had a good time doing these! – and I thought she did pretty well. There was one hitch, in the third sequence, where we did the 2 serp jumps from the other side (so the angles were wrong, I think) – it was really hard for her to come in on #2, and then out again to tunnel#3 – so I broke it down a bit, and then she got it – but there was still lots of name calling (of the good kind!;) ). She ran the backside sequences well for the most part – despite my handling – haha!

We also tried the Forced Front Crosses, as in the Live Session. I didn’t have enough room to set it up the same as in the live session, so I just sent her to the tunnel after the FFC. Yowza hasn’t done these before, so I was very pleased with how she did – she knows where that magic cookie hand is! I have never done the “throw back” instead of the FC before, so I’m not sure how I did….

Yesterday we did the Wingin It Turnaway games again – this time using the tunnel for more speed, and sequencing with some other turns. I think I was a little closer to the wings for the lap turns, but maybe I could have been even closer….

Today we went to the training building to train, and lo and behold, there was a tunnel with 3 jumps set up on the course that were almost in the formation needed for the Wk 6 games. I had to adjust the last jump a little, or Yowza would have been jumping into the wall, but I think that was OK. Only had time to do the first exercises – and I’m not sure if we did them exactly right. We found the rear cross on jump#5 quite difficult b/c of the change in leads (I think) – we were only successful when I said her name to bring her in closer to me (maybe this was a place for a lap turn -haha!). Then I found I had to be careful not to get stuck behind jump#6 so that I could send her to the tunnel.
PS – I am wondering if this is our last week, and also if there is going to be a sequel after Max Pup 3 ends…… – we hope so 🙂

Hi Tracy – wondering if you missed my posting of Concept Transfers – Serpentines-2 that I posted above. this is a repeat of the Baby Level, as my previous video was not very clear – I hope this is better, though it was hard to position my camera in the barn to get everything in.
Today we did the Wingin It – Turn Aways – I did mostly the lap turn – but will continue this over the weekend and hopefully do more tandem turns, and add more speed.

Here are our efforts at the Contact Position Lazy Game. Not sure if she really understands the position yet, as she is still doing a lot of barking at me….

I repeated the Running contact mat targeting – this time trying to focus on the mat and marking back feet stepping on mat. This was OK when she was just going over to the mat (without the MM) – although when she missed, and I waited, she stopped and barked at me – this was a theme throughout this game, and i wasn’t sure what the best response was to help her. You will see this again when we used the Manners Minder – so, at some point I decided to make it easier by going back to marking any foot stepping on the mat.
