ParticipantHi Tracey,
Here is week 2 long sequences. I really worked on keeping more connection with Juno coming out of the previous obstacle and found it awkward. My natural instinct is to make initial contact after the previous obstacle, and then cue the next obstacle while supporting it with my eyes on take-off and landing. I have found this to work well with Juno, so I’m not sure what you’re seeing that I can do to make it better? When I try to look at his eyes longer than I normally would, it feels too long and I feel it causes me to cue later than earlier. Not sure this makes sense. Looking forward to your comments!
Thank you!

ParticipantHi Tracey,
Just checking…it looks like you’ve been online recently and wondering it you might have missed my post?
Thanks,

ParticipantHi Tracey,
I went ahead to the 4 Game sequences and was disappointed in my handling. I think some of my turn cues were late, especially on the spins. I was going to redo this exercise before submitting but thought there was much to learn here! So here it is.
I happened to get a few clips of my older dog Jake doing sequence 3 for handling comparison. He’s faster than Juno and turns on a dime! With him, I make brief connection after completion of the previous obstacle but then focus more on take off and landing.
I look forward to your comments!

ParticipantI’ll rework these sequences again with your comments in mind. It seems I’m pretty inconsistently “shifty”! LOL I will focus on being consistent with my connection cues. It’s so interesting how much a slight change can make a big difference. Thanks for the great comments!

ParticipantHi Tracey,
Super helpful! I looked back on my videos with your noted comments and it all makes sense. Funny how I think I’m doing the right thing until I have someone with your good eye to point out the minute handling details that can make it better!
It’s one thing to know that you need to keep connection, and actually doing it? This is my take away from this section going forward: STAY connected, execute early and trust your dog, and keep my dog side arm down and low for clearer communication. I do have high flailing arms at time and have been self critical about it!
The good news is that I’m becoming more aware of my disconnects and poor timing! Love this class!

ParticipantHi Tracey,
Here’s our Exit Line Connection Seq’s 1-5. I struggled with my timing on the spin (late and not rotated enough), but what you see in video is only our best effort after looking at previous video.

Thank you,

ParticipantGreat comments, thank you!
Yes, I had to think about using the correct hand! For the spins, I did feel behind, and we’ve been doing spins for a while but when you start breaking the mechanics down such as you’re doing, it made me really think about what I was doing and thus slowing me down. It felt a little awkward, but think this exercise will help improve our spins going forward.
And I like the idea of fading the hand across the body for serps…it definitely slows me down.

ParticipantOkay, you win…lol! I’m a little behind in many ways! Here’s our Regular and exit line connection build the skill. We worked it a few times before submitting this video, so that was it for us this time around. Lot’s to think about. Hope to get to Week 1 sequences tomorrow. Thanks ahead for your comments.

ParticipantThank you for the great response, and it makes total sense. I like the hamburger metaphor! Was it Wendy’s that marketed “get it your way”? Very true that multiple things are happening at once to cue the next obstacle (motion, body position, verbals). I think the 3 C’s is a great mantra to live by, and think you are doing the same thing but better at explaining/demonstrating it!

ParticipantHi Rebecca,
I’ve watched your videos and read “some” of the text and it all impressed me! Kindle is a force to contend with and you’re doing it well!

ParticipantGreat observations, AND I’m so glad you said this: “To make that feel more comfy, you can kind of anticipate the timing: when Juno is lifting off, you can start the next cue because you know that landing will happen right after liftoff” because I tend to cue on commitment vs them landing the obstacle because that seems REALLY late to me. I’ve done a lot of OMD stuff and if I understood their 3 c’s (Connect, commit, cue) correctly in that order, then what you said above makes more sense. When I was doing this exercis I was thinking it was more about awareness of where your dog is vs waiting for that moment to cue?

ParticipantI really like the “Backside Wing Brake Hand”. I tried it out today and was surprised to see a much better approach to the backside. Juno has a pretty nice “wrap” but has a tendency to go out too much for my liking on the approach to a backside jump/wrap. On his first attempt I did notice him coming in a little closer to the wing on approach. I’ll work on different approaches but think this technique has promise for a better performance! Thanks!
