    No feedback is boring feedback!

I’m not saying I’m glad for her to work on handler errors now, but she better get used to them early on 😬 I’m very familiar with “screw up cookies”-I’m pretty sure that’s the only reason my dogs still work with me LOL.

And I appreciate your feedback on eye contact on the blinds-I really get lazy with reconnecting after a blind and I really need to be more mindful of that with all my dogs, but especially with a puppy. So thank you!

I’ve been bad about actually posting videos, but we are working on stuff and having so much fun with this class! Here’s a bit of goat tricks with a slightly moving object. The problem I’m having with goat tricks is that this dog is super serious while she’s working (with food particularly) and I don’t feel like I am getting “play” out of her. She is definitely progressing with toy play when I play with toys only, but isn’t quite ready to integrate that with work, and especially not with food involved.

    Sounds good!!

Here’s a bit of our blind cross foundation work. I did try this game a few times with tossed food, come to toy but my little foodie isn’t quite having that yet 🙂

I learned this week that I don’t have a free-standing upright! Something I will definitely add to the Christmas list. I have millions of wing jumps (or like… 6) though, so I used a wing for this game, hopefully that’s ok. We did a bit of this game when Rogue was a tiny puppy in a different class, but with a cone, so this week I’ve really worked on expanding the distance and also have been working on it with me standing instead of sitting. Here’s where we are at:

Hello! We were out of town for a few days so took the games to this point on the road a bit and slowly progressed things. One of the things I’ve been really excited about over the past couple of days is the back and forth with toys! This is a game we have previously done with food so I was worried she wouldn’t easily transfer it to toys, but she seems to be really engaged with the toys in this situation! I’m watching videos, I’m sometimes slow with engaging the toy when I switch over to her making the choice so I’ll need to work on that.

I got an error message when I tried to post, so I don’t know what that’s about but hopefully this works!
I noticed my hand being high in this session as well, so that’s definitely something I will need to continue working on.
In this clip I took out some of the shorter sends as I was seeing the same trends in the longer sends: 1) she doesn’t seem to engage with a ready dance. She is a pretty serious worker, but I’m sure you’ll have ideas 🙂 2) food in hand with sends is hard. I ended with some shorter sends so we could work on this.

All are great points and things I will definitely incorporate!

Immediately after the focus forward game I did the decel game. I always feel weird stopping my movement (such as in rally) which I think came through in this exercise, so again a mechanic I need to work on more. However, I’m thrilled with how Rogue was reading the decel.

I’m glad to hear (and see in the live classes) the use of both food and toys. I would love to build on her toy drive, but I am much more comfortable in my timing and response when rewarding with food, so the toys are a lot of thinking for me! And my pup loves food, so it’s hard not to use it, but I definitely see the value. In response to your question about what she enjoys playing with, it tends to be any toy that another dog has or wants (she’s a very submissive girl, but will stare for hours while another dog has a toy and be ready to grab it right when they leave), and socks. If I have any doubt of if she has toy drive, I just have to see her pounce and pick up and shake a sock and I’m reminded that she really does have the potential. I tend to work my toy sessions by letting her pick the toy-I have a bag full of high value toys (lots of variation and fuzz) and bring it out only for toy specific sessions. I definitely haven’t been great about bridging the gap between toy play and using toys as a reward, so I’m very excited to see how that develops throughout this class.
With that being said, I used only a toy (no food) for the focus forward game and am very happy with the result. She definitely is not retrieving the toy or anything close to it, but she was super happy to continue tugging with me when I grabbed it. I maybe let the tugging go a bit long-I cut much of the tugging to keep the video under 2 minutes-but for me it felt like a win.

Here are our Pregame 1&2 videos. The cheese caused an issue for me as well LOL. Also I have not worked much with toys in training sessions and am still working on building value outside of training sessions so that I can eventually use them as a reward. Is toy drive something we will go over in this class?
