he didn’t like the placement of reinforcement with that type of toy

I’m glad I’m not crazy and you saw that too. I made a joke about me throwing it at his face and him being offended. Like frizz to the face, fine… fluffy teabagging, not okay 🤷‍♀️

The only other mechanics suggestion is to lock the bars in so he doesn’t knock a rail

I meant to ask this in the zoom but forgot. I’m not familiar with how to lock the bars 😬

I am having a hard time placing myself off his line for the soft turns. His bubble is a bit bigger for those or so it feels. He did a beautiful right in handling work today at Carrie’s. 🥰

Some more work. I worked on adding motion back to check and dog as well as handler speed. I must say in this small space, I have a really hard time modulating my motion. I probably need to practice without the dog because I’m either barely moving or full out. No sweet spot yet.
He did really well with the wraps.
I lost him for a second jere. I kept the footage in. I’m not quite sure what prompted it. I paused the session and groomed Callie and then came back to it. In terms of length, I really wasn’t pushing it. We were about 3:40 into it when he started sniffing.

I used the frizz second half to try to increase arousal. I didn’t like the toy placement so went back to the tug. I wasn’t sure if he had been offended by me throwing the tug st his face which seemed to be when he melted a little.
He was turning wide in the wrap to the right turn so I set the wing to help his line better. I’d appreciate your feedback on whether it’s me or I need something else there.

I also reset him with food between activities. No biting.

Do you have video? Count the number of reps versus the number of reinforcements versus number of no rewards

I do have it on video! It was the start of our session, one fail and one correct rep. Anytime he was jumping at me, he was giving me affection of the bitey kind 🤣. He even snuck in a shoe bite for his nanny Tracy to get a kick out of.
Man I do love his enthusiasm and tugging here though 🤣🤣
And thankfully he’s really good about not breaking my skin so far (famous last words 🤣)

Also he kept knocking the bar. We did do some conditioning this morning with the peanut and balance discs. Idk if he’s just fatigued or if you see something else.

With Callie, I think I need to go back to the mini pinney set up because her understanding just isn’t there. She’s taking it as a go and thinks she’s correct so I need to revisit the concept first.

Fever and I have done remedial dig dig for a couple of days. Yesterday he was extra frustrated and bit me several times revisiting this. Today was much better and I walked away with only one tooth hug. I’m trying not to obsess over this one. I do think he still needs the walking part.
We added lefts and rights also.

He had a little confusion on the go but is better in one direction than the other.

For your entertainment watch my sorrow when I throw the frizz into the neighbors yard 😭

    Week 1 second exercise

Boyyyyyyyy I really mucked this one up. I tried to edit it down but left a lot most of it so you could see me struggle in my stupor.
I think many mistakes were made. The first was watching the video tutorial at lunch instead of leaving so it wasn’t super fresh in my head. Secondly, I brought a frisbee to what should have been a toy on a string show. He was just much more excitable.
Check check went okay. I initially went for a wing wrap and realized that was too much and dialed it back.
Dig! Omg what does it mean?! What does it mean? I kept trying to make this easier for him but unfortunately got into a vortex of wrongness. Lord it was bad. He was stressing. I tried to make it easier- that wasn’t right either. Ugh
I was like let’s do a go, certainly he knows that- which it looks like he does but he chose to take it as the worlds largest spread jump.
I decided that I should just quit at that point and played frizz and he was happy.
At least it’s Monday and it will only go up from here.

I tried to introduce the L and R set up to Callie and that didn’t go well either so I came in and poured a drink made some awesome chili eggs with cauliflower rice and can’t wait for the guidance of our zoom call tomorrow 😅.

Good morning! I hope you have a fun filled weekend planned!

I tried the last session of wraps with Fever. We had one mistake but my movement is quite obnoxious.
I’m watching these in slo mo while editing, I tried to be late on the front crosses and I think I still wasn’t. I’m also looking at my decel, is it too much for the point of the exercise? I feel like I do better walking and then the “running” has all the muscle memory linked to it.
I’m really proud that he’s happy with three days of repetitive drills. Good nugget!

the only thing I would change is keeping the distraction jump super low – the power it is, the more tempting it is to just hop over 🙂

He knocked the bar and I reset it lower and said to myself “She’s going to tell me this jump is too high”

keep moving forward, slowly, til AFTER he wraps the wing. Yes, be late on the FCs 🙂 Your FCs were pretty timely here, so now we can take them out as helping create the wrap – we don’t want the handling helping him, we want to isolate the verbal.

I should probably add post turns in too. I hate post turns.

    (plan your words in advance

Words were planned in advanced, I wasn’t prepared for the mental confusion that would happen when I alternated each wing side so I’d be using opposite words but still somehow couldn’t get it correct. I swear the directional part of my brain is broken. I requires SO MUCH more rehearsal than anything ever and I still get confused midway.

Let me know if the plan males sense

    It’s a ballin’ plan.

I might have progressed without waiting for feedback because I have impulse control issues. If you have any fun versions of human IYC, HMU

He found this ball in the yard. Idk where it came from but it was a happy toy toy today. I was happy with how he was handling my movement so I added the wing. If I need to regress, I’m game.

I totally botched the last rep words. Big time. Fever has listed me for rehoming. I sometimes play nicely with others but RG food. Please share amongst your sporting friends 🤣

I spend a good bit of time staring at my hands figuring out which is check and dig and still screw it up more than I care to admit.

    No adorable naughtiness today!!

He was also holding the stay when I jogged out. A lot of good here! I do think the turns could still be tighter. Do I need to work my toy placement?

Repeat wing session with the red child
For your entertainment, I left two moments of naughtiness which may have included a small love nibble to my arm as well as stealing a toy and zooming when we had an error 🤣
He wants to leave before his release command so I’ve been extra flappy with my arms. I think rewatching it might have been a bit much.

I edited out most of my monologue but, man you missed out on my marker cues dialogue I kept having to try to get them right 🤣

For the last go! I placed the toy since we had two mistakes there.

I did this with Callie too and her mistakes were with the go. Usually if both dogs make the same mistake, I blame the mama- but she doesn’t default to go away from mom when I’m walking so they may have just been coincidental. Actually, I usually blame the mama whether it’s both dogs or not.

as long as he is not using his Border Collie Superpowers to shape her line 🙂

shhhh… he can’t know he has superpowers

I think you can go to the wing wrap before the setup, with you walking into it to see how they do.

to clarify, keep the set up the same and walk? Should I run the exit line to get the acceleration?

If you were on the line/blocking the wing and he took the front side, I would probably have rewarded it. For now, stay off the line and then eventually we can add back the mom’s-in-the-way challenge

It is entirely possible that I placed myself incorrectly. I think that my line was likely on the backside line instead of the centered wing, so I should set the line closer to the centered wing? I apparently haven’t had enough caffeine yet because I’m feeling extra concrete in needing clarification this AM.

Only other other little detail – when Callie is training, especially as you add more motion – Don’t let Fever stand by the distraction jump

Ha yes, I realized this too and put him up when I changed out the wing. I really struggle with him not wanting to come to me if he thinks he’s going to get put up while his sister works so it’s something I need to continue to work on. If I had a perfectly trained place behavior, that would be ideal.
His recall since your seminar and his small escape has been SO GOOD- like seriously comes skidding into the house now so I don’t want to do anything to damage that.. hahaha

I’m so happy to train with someone again it made my evening go so much faster! I’m out of practice and this is the worst possible camera angle. I’m so sorry. You get a great view of my Meyer lemon tree that didn’t lemon this year because hurricane Ida took them all.

So I pulled out both dogs. I was happy with the tightness and head turn that Callie was offering me, so I focused the video on Fever (he also got picked for this exercise because he had two mistakes)
So he knew this exercise as soon as I set it up because he offered a wing wrap without any cueing.
Cheese looks pretty good. I probably could tighten exit line slightly.
Callie was choosing to go through the wing here so I was hoping you could give some insight. It was only on the dig dig side and not the other. I mean I couldn’t ask for a tighter wrap. These jumps aren’t regulation so it’s probably not an issue we’d face.

Toys! I started with his true love in life, the frizz but switched to have a better exit line and drive with a long toy
His failure was also on the dig dig side. I will say in practice, it’s usually the lesser one when I just start with wing wraps.

I’ll place my tripod better next time!

    Verbals dictionary
Check- wrap right nearish wing stanchion
Dig- wrap left nearish wing stanchion
L and R- soft turns, taken moderate collection
GO- extension cue- middle of the bar, extension
    Pass- backside slice wrap
    Seek- backside wrap
    Look- threadle slice
    Zip- threadle wrap

I realize I don’t have much definition of how they take jumps. Callie is one of those anointed dogs who jumps naturally well and COVERS MY ASS OFTEN and rarely puts in extra strides
Fever can occasionally need the kitchen sink thrown at him to turn if I’m being a psycho handler (yay anxiety!). He will also try to recover for this in landing/noodling in air.

I’m glad we covered with Barb jump left/right versus just left and right because I struggle with this and overthink it. I will make an effort to just switch to L and R alone.

    List of goals
I’d really like to continue our reinforcement procedures work and keep building. I think if we master delayed reinforcement, I won’t have so much anxiety about end of run or disconnecting in runs. I really need some positive reinforcement here

I’d like to get a few seminars under our belt working in a little bit more distracting environment, FEO in AKC or UKI in a solid ring-barrier facility/one ring trial.

I’m not sure what other goals to set so far. I often get hung up on things and then get paralyzed on moving forward.

I do want to again visit other sports outside of agility to keep working new environments. We plan to do more dock in the spring.

I’m open to suggestions. Any announcements soon on what classes are coming next?
