ParticipantGame 11. This word paired with backside wrap is new to him. We did a season with a single jump Monday and tried it here. I was very happy with his progress. Tunnel distraction was a bit more challenging. We swapped toys midway through because he wasn’t loving the one I started with.
I hope you and Hot Sauce are doing well and had safe travels home!

Mannnnnn this one was hard for me! I think Fever was trying so hard and I had smoke coming out of my ears. Typically, I’m only tested on my lefts and rights when I have my annual eye exam so this was a challenge 😂
It took a bit for for me to figure out the positions to make him successful.
I tried to calm some of my excitement but I think my reward placement was contributing. So many moving parts in this one.

ParticipantWe tried the left and right pre game. I haven’t done any soft directional verbals so we may be slow to progress past this.
Interestingly it sounds like there is a sneeze when my video starts and it wasn’t Fever or myself so I now think my yard is haunted by a ghost. Also, FB reminded me that this time last year we were in sunny Punta Gorda having a blast 😭😭😭

ParticipantI’ll have to try the raised platform. The mat does look very insignificant on the ground by other things. I have a Cato board that might work for this purpose.
We tried game nine minus the counter motion. I had limited daylight getting off work later. I am having a hard time keeping my path parallel as I tend to drift. But I do have to say one of my major takeaways from the last seminar was the open shoulder/more parallel path for the backsides and it’s been super helpful for Callie and I. I’m super grateful to have learned that from you!
My set up was a bit tight on spacing.

ParticipantWe tried game 7. Man this one was fun!
We briefly tried game 8- I haven’t edited the footage but we couldn’t think about our RC mat in the presence of the tasty tunnel so that training session didn’t continue past 3 attempts.

ParticipantSo we tried the wraps with our short tunnel in place of the second jump, and I blew his mind.
We had more failures than I wanted, but I was trying to modify thing to see where his understanding was. I took the bar down and then switched from toy to food.

I had a hard time staying where I should be in proximity to the jump. One thing I wonder if you have a suggestion for is my blind technique? I feel as though I overestimate the size of my butt on all the blinds so I take a large step and end up drifting so I feel like I could execute them better to get tighter turns. Thoughts? Would it help if my position were better? If so any advise on how to fix my position?

ParticipantWe tried verbals alone with the MM. it went so much better than I was expecting. I do feel he’s more confident on the wraps than go.

Participant“Based on this: My guess is that when you are handling a sequence, you have to handle a lot to get a tight turn with little leeway for being maybe a little late or not perfect”
I haven’t worked much on collection to be honest. He and I have struggled so much with engagement in the past that I’ve been super forgiving on his turns, so it hasn’t previously been something I’ve spent a lot of time training. That being said, I feel like decel is still a challenge for him because at times he will pull off the obstacle/refuse- I suspect this may be my timing or execution in part. Hopefully this will bring some more clarity.
But also correct in that he doesn’t like when I’m late or not perfect. #toothhugs but that’s making me a better handler 😏

ParticipantWeek 5 part 2
Again my mechanics could have been better upon review

This was hard starting out because he just kept offering behaviors trying to figure out what I want. Watching the video after, I certainly missed several opportunities to reward collection. I felt like my handler mechanics could have been better (hopefully improved next session) and my treat and train was sabotaging me.

ParticipantWe tried the first exercise again adding more motion. I also added his go command. The only mistakes that were made happened while I was using the wrong verbal. I flagged those. I felt like my motion was reflecting what I wanted but words weren’t fluid. I told Fever in the video he should bite me 🤣.

ParticipantWe tried the first exercise for week 2. I haven’t yet added go to the discrimination but that will be next for us. We just finished a jumping class so I was really worried he would think the more advanced part was the biggest spread jump ever but he did much better than I was expecting. I suspect I can add more motion in because he had zero errors in this first session.

ParticipantWe tried game 3. I made it a bit easier with my side position for this first rep because we haven’t played any form of crate games since he was a whittle pup, but it went better than I expected. I did try to keep better hold of him- even though he’s a floppy fish with teeth so I think we got less offered behaviors.

ParticipantThanks for your feedback. I didn’t factor no reward for offering into our success rate. Thank you for pointing that out!
Looking at lesson three with the goal being for contacts, should we do a kennel tunnel discrimination or should I use his RC mat?
