    Brandy,
Thanks so much for that information about “The Bitey End of the Dog!” What a great collection of podcasts! I can’t believe I haven’t encountered it before now.
    Thanks again!

    Susan,
I hadn’t had the chance to watch your video of Asta until just now. It’s a great visual of her journey.
What a beautiful dog! She reminds me of my last Sheltie, Charlie.
I do recognize some of her behaviors. Vie chased her tail only a few times, thank goodness.
The looking for something on the hillside is a behavior that I see in Vie when we go to a park with trails. I have always thought that she smells or hears some critter. She has a very strong prey drive.
The pouncing along the fence is very familiar. Vie used to do it all over our yard and even in my club’s agility barn when she would take off after a shadow. She was still doing it last winter in the snow.

I have been doing a lot of behavior mod and it certainly works, although it takes time and practice and more time and more practice.
When working on her shadow issues in the kitchen, when we don’t get to practice every evening, I certainly see a difference in her ability to offer the response substitution behavior (going to her elevated bed) on her own vs me having to cue it.
I looked for you on FB and couldn’t find you but did see that you wrote an article for Clean Run! Any chance that you have a copy of that article that you could send me? I would love to read it.
Looking forward to Bobbie’s response to your last post.

    Susan,
I have been following you and after watching your video of 10/5, I can see so many similarities between Avery and Vie. I love how supportive you are of her.I try to do the same with Vie. I appreciated your written comments on the video.
I am learning a lot from you and Avery.
    Thanks!

Brandy, I’m happy to share my experience with you. Every dog is different and every dog reacts to medications differently. Vie’s brother also has the shadow and reactivity issues. He has been taking Zoloft but his vet behaviorist is going to switch him to the medication that Vie is on.
If you cannot find a vet behaviorist in your area, I would definitely recommend that you hook up with Behavior Vets in their vet to vet service.
In addition to the medications, I have a lot of help from both the vet behaviorist and the behavior Tech who works through the hospital.
I do want to give you some encouragement because I have definitely seen improvement. It may be slow but it is still progress. My new motto is new motto is Progress not Perfect.

    Brandy,
I have a 2 1/2 year old Border Collie, Vie, who has been diagnosed with CCD (shadows and lights), generalized anxiety, and fear-related reactivity.
The lights and shadows in the house are a big issue for Vie. We have been working response substitution behaviors and they are working…but still a work in progress. I also notice that with the light changing that the shadows can worsen. Her outdoor shadows have definitely improved.
Vie is currently taking Effexor and gabapentin. We have been making progress but still have a way to go.
I have been working with a vet behaviorist and a behavior trainer affiliated with the vet.
I’m not a working student but am following you for good info!
    Thanks for listening,
    Joanne and Vie

    Susan,
I’m not sure if you are the person who spoke on the chat last night about your dog having some obsessive compulsive behaviors.
I have a 2 1/2 year old Border Collie, Vie, who has been diagnosed with CCD (shadows and lights), generalized anxiety, and fear-related reactivity.
I was interested in what your dog’s issues are and what you feel really helped.
Vie is currently taking Effexor and gabapentin. We have been making progress but still have a way to go.
