ParticipantHi,
I am Joyce and the dog for this class is Rookie. He is my 12 month old collie. I have two older dogs that are now essentially retired from agility. Carlie and Carson. Carson took Tracy’s Contact course last summer and we had so much fun. Here is a TikTok video of my three and myself playing hide and seek.

ParticipantLooking forward to this class! My dog is now 12 months old and we have been waiting to start weaves. Beautiful day where I live, so time to get weaving!

ParticipantHi Kim,
Sorry for not being back for awhile. Congrats on making World Team. I added in Chicken and yes that is a HIGH value treat. OK, super high value. Have to watch the liver/hamburger from a pancreatitis standpoint with Carson. If I you put in a note and I don’t respond, it is because I have developed a health issue that is serious and I am not really doing much of anything the past few weeks with my dogs and don’t expect to be able to for a couple of months. I am glad that this program is available forever because I will end up going back later (probably several months from now) to work through things. He qualified for NAC and as it is, I may need to have someone else run him for me. I look forward to finishing up the course and and continuing to learn!!!!!

ParticipantNoise sensitive dog is Carson. Carlie is bothered by fireworks and that is a predictable time of year.
For Carson: What he likes from high value to lowest value:
1. Treat: TUna/pumpkin that I make or coookie one that I make that use for class, warm-up, and end of agility runs.
2. String cheese.
3. Pet botanicals training treats
4. Playing with toys: tugs or stick
5. Playing with frisbee or ball
6. Playing a brain game that has food in it.Interesting that the teeter bang does not bother him. It is the uncontrollable sounds that spoke him. I forgot. The door bell or knocking at the door. We got a ring doorbell and until he figured out that the sound meant someone was there, he had no response. What a missed opportunity I had in reinforcement of great being quiet…..

ParticipantIf you have suggestions to how I respond so I do not reinforce, please, I am open. And I am appreciative!!!!!!!

ParticipantSorry for the delay in response. Long week.
Noise reactions: Loud slams, like the garbage truck, things that drop on the floor. His ears go down, back, tail goes down, he will move away, shut down. At a trial, in the midst of the weaves, a drill in the next ring securing the tunnel bags, stopped, ears down, tail down, shut down. Another trial instance: he was at the start line as the prior dog was coming down the last two jumps. Owner’s husband behind the start line area. Dog missed the jump, husband boos loudly (and I mean loudly) right behind Carson. He was in his sit stay position, turns, looks, ears down, head goes down, he shut down. He completed the run but it was horrible. He kept scanning around the room the whole run for what was going to come and get him. I probably should have taken him out and not run him but I did not know how he was going to be.
Since that occurrence, I listened to a podcast on noise sensitivity and started a process with dropping a plastic fork on a piece of wood and we have been desensitizing him which has been helping. (Back chained the process to the noise). Recently, a semi came through our neighborhood to deliver something and the guy was ratcheting which was similar to the drill noise. I did the noise party process and he did so much better, get his head up, ears up, did not shut down.Joyce Jackowski
ParticipantHI Kristy,
It is Joyce, with Carson and Carlie. Nice to see you here. See you around at trials. XOJoyce Jackowski
ParticipantKim, I hope you do not mind my comment here.
Kyle, Your dog is beautiful. Have you had her checked out by a vet or a rehab vet? I only ask that because my dog had an injury and her first symptom was slowing down with the weaves. I just thought it was a weave issue until other signs started happening. If you have, Great. If you haven’t, keep it in mind as something to do. Again, your dog is beautiful and loved that video. -
