7 1/2′ apart, 1st jump at 6″, 2nd jump at 10″. Session included several “catches” and some tug, release, tug again. I only put the 4 jump reps in the video. What do you think? Ticked the last bar on the last rep…… Getting tired? Figuring stuff out? 4 reps didn’t seem like too many, but she does put a lot of energy into tug! Maybe too much tug!?

    Wind In Your Hair…..
Took a while to work this out. Started with a little more motion and throwing the toy, really hard to time that throw and it was making her do some really wacky stuff jump wise. Then I went to preplacing the toy and that was definitely better, but the dead toy wasn’t quite high enough value so decided to switch to food in bowl and that got what I think we are working on in this game? Next time we play I think I should just start with the food in the preplaced bowl? Our last rep was definitely the best…..my best as far as connection and seeing when she looked at the jump so I could cue GO. Before that it’s kinda all over the place :0

Will probably play with jump setpoint sometime over the weekend…..7 1/2 feet apart, 2nd jump at 10″, keep the first jump at 6?

Worked on our Moving Target Game over the weekend so we were able to use a moving target (one of her favorite toys!) when we played with jump set points yesterday.
    Jump Set Point – 7′ apart, 6″ and 8″, moving target šŸ™‚

Our 2nd time playing Smiley Face, worked on my verbals here….. And boy do they need work!

Jump Set Point, Take 2. Jumps are a little more than 7′ apart (2 Great Mats), bars at 6″….might be a little long? She likes her MM but doesn’t LOVE it, not like Sly does. He’d kill for his! We need to do the foundation work with the moving toy, so I went to a food bowl to see if that helped her get her head down. Also, did a few reps on the other side just to see if there was any difference and doing both sides is a habit that I need to work at.

Wind in Your Hair, Take 1. I truly had no idea how this would go and was pleasantly surprised šŸ™‚ I think next time I’ll use a ball instead of the toy, so much easier for me to throw a ball timely. On the last couple of reps, I really thought about connection on exit of the wing.

After 2 weeks ā€œin the Southā€ it was definitely a system shocker coming home to snow. Supposed to get down to 20 tonight 🄶 I am SO ready for some warmer weather!

Yep, she’s a couple of weeks short of 14 months, time sure does fly. Not sure how tall she is, haven’t measured her but I’d guess she’s something close to 23 but not a lot more than that. Last weigh in was 73#. I don’t think she’ll get much/if any taller but I swear she fills out a bit every day. As Berners go she’s definitely on the small side….perfect for us!

First training in almost a month. Warmed up the MM, should’ve warmed up her Catch away from the jump a little more as she was moving forward instead of expecting the reward to end up behind. Jumps were 6’ apart, bar locked in at 6ā€. Video is a little chopped up as I tried to cut out all the arguing I did with the MM. I swear they have a mind of their own sometimes.

Just wanted to let you know that we are still here! The rest of life has been challenging these last couple of weeks and Millie is clearly demonstrating her teenageness!!!! Working through some issues between her and Sly that I thought were pretty much behind us and none of us are getting enough physical exercise or outside time because it’s been so freaking cold. Anyway……could be worse and we all actually got out today for some fun in the snow after a little training. No video but we’re focusing right now on jungle gyms, backing up and retrieving. Progress on all fronts šŸ™‚ I’ve been trying to lookback and see what items we “missed” along the way….one of them was tunnel threadles – she nailed the one to her left but really struggled with the one to her right. We’ll play with that again sometime soon.
We are now splitting a private lesson with another young dog with Lo every other week, mostly I wanted to see if she could “work” in a new/busy location. Went to the first one a week ago. She was freaking incredible!!! She could tug, she could focus, she could run up and down a DW plank resting on a table, ran through her tunnels and drove out to her preplaced toy, wrapped around a big cone. She had fun!!!!
    Have a great weekend!!!

The Cato board was the closest thing I had that adds some height and is a bit narrower for backing up. Not sure I like it….seems like it’s just a little too high and a little too narrow. What do you think? Close enough to work with or should I see if I can get Jim to make me something? She’s really thinking about picking up her feet, definitely working that core! I just had an idea as to how to make it not quite so high. I’ve got some extra mats, wonder if I could stack a couple in front of the board….if you can’t lower the platform, raise the floor. I think if I can do that that it might work! Wish I’d thought of that today!

Serpentines off the other side and this time with the MM. Not sure why I was holding my hand with the target so high! Maybe a left hand, right hand thing šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø I’ll have to be more aware of that. A little later we did a few reps with the same setup with the Threadle Slice.

3 videos from several short sessions the last couple of days.

Really happy with how backing up is going. I need to watch your video to figure out what the next step is. I think we’re ready 😊

Better with the connection on the Rocking Horses but still need to work on the cue for the next barrel happening sooner. I think I need to spread the barrels out more? Geez, she is a big girl 😳

Thrilled with these two sessions of Strike a Pose. Do I need to still be a little closer to the jump?

Yes! Latent learning for the win! We did a few backing ups this morning and on the 3rd (turned out to be the last) I ended up throwing the treat far enough behind me that whenever I’ve done that before Millie would go all the way through my legs instead of backing up. This time she backed up – jackpot!!!! All the remaining treats!!!

2nd session today of the Serp Concept Transfer game….I asked for one too many stays šŸ˜ž The good thing from that was it forced me to work out my mechanics to be able to do this from a thrown treat.

    Tomorrow’s plan….. Strike a Pose with a toy and some Rocking Horses…..with connection šŸ˜‰

Been playing around with Backing Up…. I tried your idea of the 2 Cato Boards; well 1 Cato Board and 1 exercise step and not sure exactly why but if I didn’t stand up she didn’t seem to understand to move away. Sometimes she’d take a step but my timing on throwing the treat “under” her was really inconsistent and it just didn’t seem to be helping her get the idea. (I was trying to think in terms of dog learning and not me teaching šŸ˜‰ ) One of the things that she really gets is targeting/props so I tried having her put her back feet on a couple of things (turned out the mat/rug seemed to work the best, big enough and didn’t slide) and then used that to get her to move backwards. I think it helped her move backwards. My thinking is to continue this way and get further away so she has to take more backwards steps and then fade the mat? What do you think?

Concept Transfer with the Strike a Pose Game…..you’re using a none wing jump. Is there a reason for a non-wing and not a wing?

Second session of backing up, first one ended up being just me figuring out mechanics….a little better in this session but I could definitely use another hand! I think we’re starting to get the idea 😊

And a little later we played with the Serp/Threadle Foundation Game…

    Beginning Rocking Horses

Rear Crosses: Oh definitely possible that I wasn’t completely across to the new side early enough! I’m sure I’ve got video, just need to sort through all of them and find it. I kept feeling like we were stuck. I think I’ll run this in the long direction in the building that way I can spread stuff out more and see if that helps.

And the noise in the background is Sly fairly close to exploding cause he hasn’t gotten to play yet 😳

Turn and Burn from yesterday….short session, off my left in this session. Played off my right a few days ago and it went pretty much the same. Rewarding with food slowed me down and as you thought that pretty much took care of her bumping the barrel ā˜ŗļø

We’ve done 3 or 4 sessions of the Prop Games with rear crosses…. Lots and lots of questions from Millie about what we were doing. Didn’t seem to matter how soon I crossed behind she’d turn towards me. I’d still reward on the line like she turned away but that wasn’t helping her understand. Tried both sides to see if it was easier on one side than the other, didn’t seem to matter. Decided to try a Manners Minder to see if that would help and I think it did. One short session of working through ā€œgotta touch the hat before going to the MMā€ which she understood really quickly ā˜ŗļø This clip is our second session with the MM.

Turn and Burn, Take 2. Worked on being more clear about setup and starting, used a different toy, some tug, release the toy and some collar grab at the very end. Chalk lines at 9, 12 and 3. I rushed one in the middle. She’s pretty comfortable at 12:00, next time we’ll work on a little earlier for the cross. And damn, but my brain is so programmed to drop the toy on my first step 😮 Gotta work on letting her complete going around the barrel before I drop it.

I was wondering what to do with her knocking over the barrel, thanks for the suggestion. I’ll give it a try the next time we play Turn and Burn.

Hadn’t done any prop games for awhile so after a quick ā€œremember the hat gameā€ warmup we played with countermotion and parallel path. Two separate sessions, I lost track of time in the second one šŸ˜–, way more reps than I should’ve done. Good girlie for hanging in there. We still haven’t figured out a ready game that we’re both comfortable with….
