    Hi Tracy,
Just wanted to say thanks for a great camp! Just what Sly and I needed at this time to work on pushing our game to the next level 🥰 I’ve got a long, fun list of specific skills for both of us to work on!

Here’s our graduation video…. An Excellent Standard run from an AKC trial yesterday which I wish I had video of the walk through to go with it!

But what I really wish I had for you was a video of our Masters JWW run cause it got me this text from Diane Patterson 😊

“Thank you so much for the video!!! It was indeed a good time to see good people that I haven’t seen in a long while!!! Yeah! You had super runs, wowzers!!! You pulled a landing side blind in JWW that was spectacular!”

Looking forward to Bobbie’s class…. Guess I better go sign up! Take care. Hope to “see” you soon

Yes, again…..all makes sense. Thanks for the references for the Threadle Wrap and Slice stuff. I definitely will be doing some more with those exercises. Here’s the 3rd Standard Course Breakout. We played with it last week, before I had to take it all down 🙁 There is SO much to play with with this setup!!! I keep a stack of interesting course maps, exercises that when I don’t know what to setup for a class, I pull something out of the stack. This one is definitely going in the stack!!!

Anyway….when I edited the video I realized I should’ve shot myself – too much “need to get this done” and not nearly enough tell Sly what a good boy he was 🙁

This is the 2nd Standard Course breakout. I started it so we were “in motion” like in the middle of a course. Loved Sly’s backside at 2, I definitely need help with the Threadle Wrap and Slice that I tried at the jump out of the tunnel. If this had been in a “real” course I probably would’ve tried to get there for a regular backside wrap but I think doing it as a threadle warp would be a better choice once we get better at them! Thoughts?

We also played with the 3rd Box Sequence. Same layer…sort of. It was harder for me not to get “too far in” and have it just be parallel line. My inclination was to blind the tunnel exit for the end line but I tried it with a rear cross too. I didn’t include the walk through but since the middle part was the same as Sequence 2 I tried to focus on the verbals ….. but I’m not sure you’d know that from the run. 🙁 I also wasn’t sure what the verbal (if any) was appropriate for the tunnel? It’s kind of a Go, but not very much or very far?

I’m developing quite a list of “sit down” verbal projects 🙂 But YES, absolutely want to have this discrimination “on a verbal”. What I loved in the sequence was the level of Sly’s understanding for his backside verbal – and that backside/tunnel discrimination 🙂 One of the things that I’m learning about Sly is that when he knows something, he KNOWS it. 🙂

This Box (and the 2nd Standard Course breakout that I’m going to post in a minute) both showed me how not fluent I am with Threadle Wraps and Threadle Slices. I think I need to go back and find both of those is some of the earlier classes I’ve done and work through them from the beginning again, do you happen to remember which courses they were in? If not, I’m sure I can find it pretty quickly by going through titles of my videos in YouTube. And while I’m thinking about it do you know what you are going to be offering this Fall? Bobbie’s class sounds really interesting…. Anyway……

Yes! All makes sense! Especially the thought process for blinding or fronting at the jump before the layer. As Lo likes to say “put your distance in the right place”. And the choice of front or blind just makes putting it in the right place easier….and I am definitely all for easier 😊

Here’s the first breakout from the Standard course. My setup is really hard because of the tunnel under the Aframe but figured this would be a good “test” for us. Nailed the backside 😍, but the tunnel/Aframe discrimination needs some work!

Also 2 short sessions today with the 2nd Box sequence. Not a first run, best run but a LOT of good learning. I totally did not see how difficult the 3rd jump would be with the tunnel layer 🥺 But makes sense where the dog’s ability to see you is obstructed by the tunnel….better connection and better verbals 🥰 were needed. No idea why I spun 5 the first time I did it with the blind between 4 and 5…. my body just did it. Much better there without it. Another really great learning sequence!

Well it wasn’t a one and done. I really wanted to do this with the Threadle Wrap but the angle between jumps 2 and 3 “messed with my head”. Got it eventually but I’m not really comfortable with the Threadle, Sly on the other hand nailed the wrap 🥰 Easily able to get to where I needed to be to front between 2 and 3 to do the wrap with Sly on my right. Tried this with me on both the landing and takeoff side of the jump. I liked going in for 7, 8, 9 better than layering the tunnel. My 5 and 6 are a little closer than yours and when I walked it a front felt better than a blind there. Tried both, not sure I have a preference, need to figure out how to time the 2. I feel like I need to cleanup the Threadle…..

I totally see the difference in the striding now that you pointed it out. That was cool to see. Jim and I are headed off in the morning for a few days of “people” vacation so Sly and I will be MIA until the middle of next week. See ya then!

Thanks Tracy for both the compliments 🥰 and confirming what I thought caused the dropped bar in that Standard run. As AKC courses go these were pretty nice but still “an AKC course”. I never really thought about starting my decel before he landed the first jump, but with the spacing that was just too late. Hmm…so I really need to think about speed he’s going and how much distance he needs to process the decel cue so that he’s able to respond and adjust striding before takeoff…..and that could well be before landing of the jump before the turning jump? And a verbal could definitely be helpful here!

I am beyond thrilled with how he is getting more and more comfortable with those starts with the longer lead outs. I’m really trying to be careful about asking for just a little bit harder but not asking for too much and to really understand where his head is at as we walk to the line to know just how much I can ask. And some days it’s definitely more than others. One of the many things that I do love about about him is that if I pay attention he is really clear (and consistent) about letting me know where his head is. Anyway… here’s Sequence 1. I didn’t video the walk through. I don’t have quite enough space to have the wing wrap to start so my setup has a tunnel to the backside of jump 1 to start (I need to work on that tunnel connection anyway 😉) 3 reps here, 1st one pretty good but 3rd one .3 faster. Stronger connection and more aggressive running from tunnel to backside and held a slightly stronger connection from the wrap to the next to the last jump a little longer, keeping my chest just a little more open and it felt like that allowed him to be just a bit faster through here. I tried to count strides from tunnel to backside. Should do it fro wrap jump to end. Oh yeah, also tried to think of my WOO!

So hard not to help even when sitting down!

We’re still here, lots of life stuff to do last week including building courses for my Brittany Club AKC trial on Friday. Anyway, we setup a modified version of the first part of Package 4’s Standard Course 1 and ran it last Thursday. Didn’t video the walk through but here is our first run.

And just for fun here are my two favorite runs from the trial. I knew the choice to run the whole line with dog on the left in T2B could turn out to be a really bad idea but knew we had a good send and I didn’t like any of the other options at all so WTH..go for it! I really liked the Standard run, my take in the moment was that the dropped bar was on me. My intent was to decel to cue the turn (a verbal would’ve been helpful too I think!) and in the moment it felt too late. Hoping to play with the Connection Sequences from Package 4 tomorrow and Tuesday. Hope all is well in your area of the World!

We worked on this quite a bit a few weeks ago and decided it was time to bring it back out since it’s too freaking hot to do much else. I think this is from Package 2. This is where we are with this skill work as of now. He really needs a setup cookie between each rep to reset his head.

Had to go to the Training Center to pick up a few things so I took Sly with the intent of doing the same Threadle Wrap training we did yesterday on the other side. Too hot to do more than a few minutes so I really planned to just do 4 or 5 reps and call it good. Well, we went back and did a 6th one just so I could video 😊 Not sure if this side is just easier or if he is really getting the concept. Either way I was so happy with this that I had to show you 🥰🥰🥰 Hope it’s cooler there than it is here!
