Yes! Latent learning for the win! We did a few backing ups this morning and on the 3rd (turned out to be the last) I ended up throwing the treat far enough behind me that whenever I’ve done that before Millie would go all the way through my legs instead of backing up. This time she backed up – jackpot!!!! All the remaining treats!!!

2nd session today of the Serp Concept Transfer game….I asked for one too many stays 😞 The good thing from that was it forced me to work out my mechanics to be able to do this from a thrown treat.

    Tomorrow’s plan….. Strike a Pose with a toy and some Rocking Horses…..with connection 😉

Been playing around with Backing Up…. I tried your idea of the 2 Cato Boards; well 1 Cato Board and 1 exercise step and not sure exactly why but if I didn’t stand up she didn’t seem to understand to move away. Sometimes she’d take a step but my timing on throwing the treat “under” her was really inconsistent and it just didn’t seem to be helping her get the idea. (I was trying to think in terms of dog learning and not me teaching 😉 ) One of the things that she really gets is targeting/props so I tried having her put her back feet on a couple of things (turned out the mat/rug seemed to work the best, big enough and didn’t slide) and then used that to get her to move backwards. I think it helped her move backwards. My thinking is to continue this way and get further away so she has to take more backwards steps and then fade the mat? What do you think?

Concept Transfer with the Strike a Pose Game…..you’re using a none wing jump. Is there a reason for a non-wing and not a wing?

Second session of backing up, first one ended up being just me figuring out mechanics….a little better in this session but I could definitely use another hand! I think we’re starting to get the idea 😊

And a little later we played with the Serp/Threadle Foundation Game…

    Beginning Rocking Horses

Rear Crosses: Oh definitely possible that I wasn’t completely across to the new side early enough! I’m sure I’ve got video, just need to sort through all of them and find it. I kept feeling like we were stuck. I think I’ll run this in the long direction in the building that way I can spread stuff out more and see if that helps.

And the noise in the background is Sly fairly close to exploding cause he hasn’t gotten to play yet 😳

Turn and Burn from yesterday….short session, off my left in this session. Played off my right a few days ago and it went pretty much the same. Rewarding with food slowed me down and as you thought that pretty much took care of her bumping the barrel ☺️

We’ve done 3 or 4 sessions of the Prop Games with rear crosses…. Lots and lots of questions from Millie about what we were doing. Didn’t seem to matter how soon I crossed behind she’d turn towards me. I’d still reward on the line like she turned away but that wasn’t helping her understand. Tried both sides to see if it was easier on one side than the other, didn’t seem to matter. Decided to try a Manners Minder to see if that would help and I think it did. One short session of working through “gotta touch the hat before going to the MM” which she understood really quickly ☺️ This clip is our second session with the MM.

Turn and Burn, Take 2. Worked on being more clear about setup and starting, used a different toy, some tug, release the toy and some collar grab at the very end. Chalk lines at 9, 12 and 3. I rushed one in the middle. She’s pretty comfortable at 12:00, next time we’ll work on a little earlier for the cross. And damn, but my brain is so programmed to drop the toy on my first step 😮 Gotta work on letting her complete going around the barrel before I drop it.

I was wondering what to do with her knocking over the barrel, thanks for the suggestion. I’ll give it a try the next time we play Turn and Burn.

Hadn’t done any prop games for awhile so after a quick “remember the hat game” warmup we played with countermotion and parallel path. Two separate sessions, I lost track of time in the second one 😖, way more reps than I should’ve done. Good girlie for hanging in there. We still haven’t figured out a ready game that we’re both comfortable with….

Turn and Burn! Our second time playing, first one was mostly about me figuring out my mechanics.

OMG, this dog is going to be the death of one of us! Absolutely no sense of self preservation. After she recovered from her leaf pile spins injury she wacked her other shoulder on the trailer hitch on the truck. 🤪. Anyway…….

We’ve done a lot of Goat Trick type games from the time she was about 4 months old. Mostly for the preservation of my back. Think getting a 40# bear cub into a vehicle 😳 I setup one of her last jungle gyms today so you could see where she is with this and where we should take it next.

Also played a bit of Wing Wraps with her barrel. I’m thinking this is looking pretty good 😊

Hopefully I can keep her from injuring herself again for a bit and we can get back to playing some “agility games”. She’s nothing if she’s not exhuberent!

Millie’s been grounded for a few days, came up a little lame on her left front after doing airplane spins in the leaf pile. She looked good on Saturday and Sunday so decided she could play today.

    Backward sends to her hat

    And

Wing Wraps with me standing up and some tugging, and some remote reward and who knows what else! Only that I was exhausted after this session 😉

Blind Cross Fun. Should’ve practiced my mechanics a few more times before playing this with my big girl. Oh yeah, she’s gonna have a really long stride 😳😆😳

Moving to a chair for the wing wraps really changed the picture for her. Smart girlie figured it out pretty quickly 😊

I only did the Drive to Handler on the one side. Wasn’t sure about my mechanics???

Couldn’t find the crocheted hat but found something the same size at the local feed store! Camo 😆 I do think this is a better size for her. She quickly figured out the game with the new prop so we did some forward sends. I think the ready game sort of freaked her out. We’ve worked hard with her on jumping up on people (her nickname is Millie the Missile), I don’t think she knew what to do when I encouraged her to jump and play? Question…how particular should I be about foot hits? On the hat, or is in front of the hat close enough? Especially as we make it harder with more distance and counter motion? She really is a fun dog to train – exhuberance at its best 🥰

Wing Wraps….This is another game that I remembered from Sly’s MaxPup so we’ve played this a few times before today.

Quick sessions of Driving Ahead/Focus Forward and the first Prop Game. I thought I had a floppy crocheted sun hat in my car that would’ve been perfect for her foot target but it wasn’t there, now I’m not sure where it is 😔 I did this session with the baseball hat, I’ll find something a little bigger before we play this one again. She does have big feet! Who knew that a working dog didn’t come with a natural retrieve like most of the Spaniels 😆
