ParticipantPop Outs 2 and 3 from the Package 2 Jumpers Course. I treated Pop Out 3 like “real life” – out on leash, no rewards on me, get it done. Done! Chose to do this with this one because I only really saw one way to handle it and it was all with skills that we “have” so let’s do it “for real”.
Pop Out 2 on the other hand was more for training. Wanted to try it a couple of different ways and 4 to 9 was interesting!

ParticipantCircle wraps from today….

ParticipantI definitely think it’s a combination of all of the above 🙂 What I do know for sure is that there is a level of mental and physical difficulty that (so far at least) there is no amount of short breaks, rewards for her to be able to be fully engaged for more than 2 or 3 reps. Her first tell is that she just can’t hold her sit. It’s like the amount of effort that she has to put in just completely wears her out. I do think I am starting to see some of that change as she is getting older, but she is still mentally (and physically) such a pup 🙂
All that said she liked One-Step Sends almost as much as me being lazy 🙂

ParticipantI think what felt “not right” was the degree of turn from the wrap jump to the the jump after it… just seemed like more angle than the video and it probably was a little more because of the way I had to squish it a little bit to fit in the space. But it definitely worked!
Yep, a touch late on the right verbal…but I did remember it! Progress….😉
Question on the circle wrap. Is the timing for the blind more I move to takeoff side with Sly still on my left and when I get past the wing I do the blind and and sorta tuck in behind the wing? I’ll do one this way tomorrow and video…
Thanks as always!

ParticipantMillie says “Lazy Games are Fun!” 🥰
Parts 2 and 3 with the jumps spread out a little bit more. The whole session was about 4 minutes long, everything on the video and break (that I cut out) to reload treats. This was a long session for her. I kinda lost track of time and reps because she was so into it and she is very clear when she’s running out of gas/brain/energy/motivation/focus….and she never showed any of that. I might have to start setting a timer for her! Never needed one before this today. 😊Kim Tees
ParticipantThis setup never felt “right”, no idea why? I had played with the individual skills a couple of times last week but never got around to posting videos and needed to setup something else today so here it is all together.

ParticipantThis dog is such a hoot! The Lazy Game, Take 1. This is the whole session….the breaks in the video are when I was reloading with treats.

Participant“Sequence 6 also went really well. You handled the 7 jump from the landing side with a bind to 8, which worked – but you can get a tighter turn on 6 and then further ahead by handling it from the takeoff side by layering the send to 6 and arriving in threadle position at 7 before he takes off for 6.”
Never even thought of that possibility! That would be really fun to try! May have to reset this sometime just to try it 🙂 This was a really good series of exercises for us…..:) Lots of good learning for both us us 🙂Kim Tees
ParticipantI thought that might be the case. Thanks. I’m going to need to modify this one a bit to fit my space…….the concepts/skills we’re working on are when the regular wrap is the better choice and when the threadle wrap is the better choice and execution of the threadle wrap after the blind, right?
Kim Tees
ParticipantThe last 2 sequences from the 4 Corners setup. This was fun and both of us learned a lot 😊

ParticipantQuestion about the Threadle wrap setup? Is the setup map correct for what is in the video? I set this up this afternoon and I double checked it against the map but it doesn’t feel like what I’m seeing in the video, specifically the 2nd jump after the tunnel, the one after the wrap jump. In the video it looks more in line with the wrap jump and on the map it’s more off set? Does my question make sense? Maybe it’s just an optical illusion in the video because of camera placement?

Participant4 Corners, Sequences 3 and 4. I included the whole session in this video, including all the in between. First rep on Sequence 3 I was thinking more about my handling (get there for the blind) and not enough about what Sly was doing… too early on the blind from 5 to 6. Really NO need to rush, the layer made it super easy to get there, but my head still said GO! GO!
Sequence 4, should’ve rewarded after 4 on the first rep. He had a little bit of a question and I missed the opportunity for that unexpected reward and helping the learning ☹️ I really liked Bobbi and Dr. Murphy’s recent webinar about reward/learning/motivation. Thinking about reward less like traditional reward and more about how it motivates …. that’s definitely interesting!! And the concept of how learning happens when the reward/lack of reward doesn’t match the expected reward. So interesting. Anyway….in the rep where he didn’t go out to 4 I was so in my head thinking about timing of the verbal go and jump, forgot all about connecting to the dog 😳
Decided that I have 2 goals for Summer Camp…..practice those verbals so that I can use the verbals and still stay connected to Sly and be more fun….less studious, more fun!Kim Tees
ParticipantWarning…..massive video dump! First 3 Pop Outs from the Standard Course and Sequences 1 and 2 from the 4 Corners Skill set. Pop Out 1 and 2 are from Monday, Pop Out 3 is from this morning. These were fun!
Pop Out 1: I did the left wing of #1 first cause I thought it would be the “easiest” and my goal for this rep was one and done. Success 🙂 Then played with the right wing, which that change went fine but we then had problems getting the backside @4. Two failures, stopped and watched video and I couldn’t really tell why it was happening, so when in doubt increase connection and we got it :0 Happy with my choice from 4 to the end, don’t like my orchestra conductor arms at the threadle wrap. Thoughts/suggestions?
Pop Out 2: This one had a lot of the stuff that we do well 🙂 Tried 2 options….. Had a moment of Oh crap! What am I supposed to be doing on the 2nd one but got it done.
Pop Out 3: A good demo of the value of releasing on the behavior verbal other than your release verbal. 😉 I haven’t gone there with Sly (at least not yet) because I’ve made a little bit of a mess out of his startline and release and haven’t wanted to add the additional factor of being able to release on various verbal cues. My fix was not lead out as far, and use more motion and that seemed to clear it up pretty nicely, I think.
Sequence 1 and 2 from the 4 Corners Skill Set:
Sequence 1 went well, Sequence 2 not as much. I think my setup made Sequence 2 harder than it had to be (tight spacing, into the cluttered space, I initially had a wingless jump….) but I think that even if those things hadn’t been part of it that this was still more difficult for us than Sequence 1 and I’m not sure I totally understand why. I’m sure that the difference of the angle of the 2nd jump in both sequences is a factor but again, not totally sure what it is about it….the line it sets for the dog?
It’s good to be back!

ParticipantThanks for the clarification on the verbal release, but no verbal look cue. Got it now! And makes total sense.
Have a great weekend! We’re off to my 50th high school class reunion today. How the H___ did I get this old!!!! HAHAHA!!!!

ParticipantWe’ve worked with this skill previously, but not in awhile and we don’t use it anywhere except in training or maybe in class……run mostly AKC and some USDAA these days mostly because it’s what’s available within a reasonable drive from home. But it’s really fun to train these skills!!!!!
And thank you for your thoughts on the whole verbal thing and specifically the “look”. It’s interesting how the sport and verbals continue to evolve. Best advice I think I’ve gotten so far on verbals was “when running a course, if using the verbal screws up your ability to be able to execute the physical cues, forget the verbal and do the physical cues right”. I’ve paired mine down to a few that I really do need because of straight tunnels, running dogwalk, backsides and a few that are beneficial and for whatever reason were relatively easy to teach and for me to use. 🙂 And good, bad or indifferent at this point they are relative to my position. It’s the only way I’ve been able to successfully use them on the run, at least so far.
“so I don’t want to add a verbal that might potential cause confusion about what the release is”
Are you in all situations back to only releasing on a single release cue or in certain situations, when the default isn’t what you want – frontside/backside of a jump sometimes releasing on the what you want cue, like Back or just in certain situations like this one? -
