ParticipantHelen and Changste came up again on Monday, I think we’re going to try to make this a regular event. It’ll be good for both dogs since we both train alone a lot 🥰
We set up Super Combos…. Sly and I only played with the 1st Sequence. Verbals + Layering is hard, baby steps.

ParticipantIt was Courtney Keys, I think she’s also a UKI judge. Courses were a blast – multiple ways to handle most parts of them. I was walking one of them mumbling to myself choices, choices, choices – LOVE those kind of courses! Thanks for the compliment – and thanks for all your classes and wisdom that have helped us get to this point 🙂 More to learn and more fun to come 🙂

ParticipantWe’re still here!!! Played USDAA for 2 days this weekend so took the end of last week off. Thought you’d enjoy this Masters Jumpers run from today!!! That flip away to the tunnel came in really handy 🥰 Should’ve been telling him Go-Jump on the way into that tunnel so he didn’t have to ask “What?” on the way out.

ParticipantHappy Monday! No worries about “the delay”, I’ve done a lot of online stuff over the years and your feedback time is awesome! Sort of off subject but I LOVE all the webinars and zoom meetings even though I don’t think I’ve actually “attended” one. They have become my new book on tape. And although I can’t watch while driving I listen and if there’s anything I want to see I just find and watch that section later. I didn’t sign up for yesterday’s as I’ve got so many in the cue to listen to already!!!
We played with the Backside/Tunnel Around the Clock this morning. First camera location is first thing this morning, just Sly and I. Second camera location is early this afternoon with Helen and Changtse sitting no more than 10’ behind Sly with a baby gate in between. Once again SO proud of both dogs!
Had to laugh in that even with the tape on the ground to “manage” my movement I’m not exactly the same. Maybe I need 2 pieces of tape so I have a little well defined pathway 🙄
Now to change the 1st jump to a more difficult position

ParticipantBack to Verbals Around the Clock – this game is REALLY hard!!! But I think we’re both learning SO much – mostly just how powerful movement is for us. We’ve done a couple of other sessions of this between the last one I posted and this one. And honestly, I didn’t like them. I didn’t like what I was doing – way too many errors (thank goodness for reset cookies!) and I couldn’t seem to figure out how “to progress” without them – Felt stuck, not enough time to edit video, blah-blah, blah-blah, blah-blah. Anyway, home all by myself this weekend, so I took another look at what I was doing and went back and reread all your feedback on this exercise so far and decided to regroup…..barrel in the easy position, tape on the ground for me to follow and early, early ball throw to help him understand the correct choice a little easier. Overall, I was really happy with this session, and I think Sly was too 🙂 What do you think?
Congratulations on the new pup!!!!!! You are going to be one busy lady the next little while 🙂

ParticipantWell these are certainly “easier” jump to Tunnel than Tunnel to jump. I also think I saw that this was a game that showed how he is a “lefty”. Lots of learning to do here. And thank you for extending the class!!!!

ParticipantThank you for the screenshots! A picture really is worth a thousand words.
Played with Handling Challenge 4 this afternoon. 1st blind is late, 2nd one is pretty good and the 3rd one (later in the video @ 1:09 ) is not quite as timely as the 2nd one but better than the first one. Is that how you see them?
Tried to get in all the verbals in the 3rd Challenge – Tunnel as soon as he exited wrap of barrel so he knew Tunnel, Turn/Turn before he entered tunnel so he knew what to do on Tunnel exit and then his In/In as soon as he exited the tunnel. This was fun!

ParticipantDecided to take a break from the “brain work” and play with the 3rd Handling Challenge today – we both get to move 🙂 The first 4 went pretty well….but whoa….Threadle Wraps are a LONG way from fluent!!!! 1st video is 1 to 4, 2nd video is just the Threadle Wrap. We need to back up and just work on the Threadle Wrap itself again before even thinking about putting it in a sequence. How would you like to do a 3 week session on just Threadle Wraps and Threadle Slices? 😉

ParticipantWe played with adding a little motion yesterday….changes the game for sure!
Helen Connell and Changtse came up yesterday so she could work in a different place with a new dog around. I took the opportunity to have Sly do a few warmup reps (easy, no motion) with Changtse and Helen sitting behind the baby gate. Both dogs did GREAT! Changtse was able to do some sits, downs and hand touches and Sly was able to focus on his words with them so close by. Helen and I were two very proud “mamas” 🥰
We did this session after they left…..
Snow day here today…..should do something like clean house but gonna watch dog training videos instead 😍. Have a great day!

ParticipantSO jealous that you are somewhere warm and sunny 😎 Have a great time!!!
My plan was for Jump to be short, a little higher pitched and more rapid, while Tunnel is supposed to be longer, deeper. I need a LOT more work for that to happen more naturally….or maybe I need to switch to a different verbal for Jump, one that is more natural for me to say differently? Couldn’t be happier though with how Sly is really working/thinking about what he’s hearing and trying to process in spite of my inconsistency. Good boy!
Have a great weekend!

ParticipantI am so sorry about whatever I did with those videos!!! I must’ve done something while editing but God only know what! Usually, I’m really good about watching the finished video before submitting because it always amazes me how many ways they can get screwed up, but I was in a hurry to get them done, da, da, da….. Again, my apologies.
Ooooooo.with my eyes closed that’s going to be interesting!!!! Gotta give that a try tomorrow!

ParticipantProgress! Our most recent session of Verbals from the Chair. I’m trying to 1) have more distinctive sound to the 2 verbals and 2) be “less controlling” of his decisions but still adhering to the two failure rule.
And then later today a quick session of Verbals Around the Clock. LOVED seeing the wheels turn and connect in this session 🥰

Participant“One thing to add in that next session: as you are repeating the verbals while holding them, make the verbals more different in sound – as if you were running a course and saying them.”
WOW….that is REALLY hard to do while sitting down!!! I did a short session yesterday and whoa……both words ended up sounding the same – but crazy the other way, loud, lots….Sly was SO confused!!! New plan; no dog, me just sit in a chair and work on the words. We’ll give it try and see how it goes!
We played with the first Handling Challenge this AM. This was fun! And really cool to watch while I was editing the video. Questions: How soon can I give the verbal cues for Jump and Tunnel? Looks like I’m better at the Tunnel one than the Jump one and it looks like both are definitely helpful to his understanding – cool! But it also looks like they could be given sooner, especially the Jump one.
Should I do this from the other side – have him wrap the barrel to his right? At the end I did 4 reps – 1 each to the tunnel and the jump from a FC, and one each from the spin. I was curious to see how much which side he was on exiting the barrel was impacting his decision of which obstacle to take.
And it was hard for me to do the “disconnect” but I think I was finally able to do it. Have a great weekend.

ParticipantDid a real quick review of Jump and Tunnel with Sly at my side…. took a few reps for him to remember that the game was about listening first, doing second. Short break while I cleaned the bathrooms and then this short session. Can’t remember which previous class it was where we had started working on these but I was pleasantly surprised with this session as we haven’t done much with these verbals for several weeks. In this session I was holding on to his tab until I saw (or thought I saw) him lock on to the correct obstacle and then I let him go. Is that what I should be doing or should I be starting to just give the cue and see which one he takes?
