We played with adding a little motion yesterday….changes the game for sure!

Helen Connell and Changtse came up yesterday so she could work in a different place with a new dog around. I took the opportunity to have Sly do a few warmup reps (easy, no motion) with Changtse and Helen sitting behind the baby gate. Both dogs did GREAT! Changtse was able to do some sits, downs and hand touches and Sly was able to focus on his words with them so close by. Helen and I were two very proud “mamas” 🥰

We did this session after they left…..

Snow day here today…..should do something like clean house but gonna watch dog training videos instead 😍. Have a great day!

SO jealous that you are somewhere warm and sunny 😎 Have a great time!!!

My plan was for Jump to be short, a little higher pitched and more rapid, while Tunnel is supposed to be longer, deeper. I need a LOT more work for that to happen more naturally….or maybe I need to switch to a different verbal for Jump, one that is more natural for me to say differently? Couldn’t be happier though with how Sly is really working/thinking about what he’s hearing and trying to process in spite of my inconsistency. Good boy!

    Have a great weekend!

I am so sorry about whatever I did with those videos!!! I must’ve done something while editing but God only know what! Usually, I’m really good about watching the finished video before submitting because it always amazes me how many ways they can get screwed up, but I was in a hurry to get them done, da, da, da….. Again, my apologies.

Ooooooo.with my eyes closed that’s going to be interesting!!!! Gotta give that a try tomorrow!

Progress! Our most recent session of Verbals from the Chair. I’m trying to 1) have more distinctive sound to the 2 verbals and 2) be “less controlling” of his decisions but still adhering to the two failure rule.

And then later today a quick session of Verbals Around the Clock. LOVED seeing the wheels turn and connect in this session 🥰

“One thing to add in that next session: as you are repeating the verbals while holding them, make the verbals more different in sound – as if you were running a course and saying them.”

WOW….that is REALLY hard to do while sitting down!!! I did a short session yesterday and whoa……both words ended up sounding the same – but crazy the other way, loud, lots….Sly was SO confused!!! New plan; no dog, me just sit in a chair and work on the words. We’ll give it try and see how it goes!

We played with the first Handling Challenge this AM. This was fun! And really cool to watch while I was editing the video. Questions: How soon can I give the verbal cues for Jump and Tunnel? Looks like I’m better at the Tunnel one than the Jump one and it looks like both are definitely helpful to his understanding – cool! But it also looks like they could be given sooner, especially the Jump one.
Should I do this from the other side – have him wrap the barrel to his right?

At the end I did 4 reps – 1 each to the tunnel and the jump from a FC, and one each from the spin. I was curious to see how much which side he was on exiting the barrel was impacting his decision of which obstacle to take.

And it was hard for me to do the “disconnect” but I think I was finally able to do it. Have a great weekend.

Did a real quick review of Jump and Tunnel with Sly at my side…. took a few reps for him to remember that the game was about listening first, doing second. Short break while I cleaned the bathrooms and then this short session. Can’t remember which previous class it was where we had started working on these but I was pleasantly surprised with this session as we haven’t done much with these verbals for several weeks. In this session I was holding on to his tab until I saw (or thought I saw) him lock on to the correct obstacle and then I let him go. Is that what I should be doing or should I be starting to just give the cue and see which one he takes?

Hi Tracy, Gotta admit it, I’m sort of sad to see this course end. It might just have moved to the top of my favorites list 🙂 Thank you for offering it. Sly and I learned a lot.

A couple of questions. I think I have a good understanding of how to “finish up” with the ZigZags and fading the Organizer for both of the wraps. I never did any of the Slice Organizers, should we? Or did developing the skills from that exercise also happen with the ZigZags? How often would you suggest reviewing these exercises to keep the skills strong?

Hope you have a great holiday season and I look forward to seeing what you’ve got in store for your next session of classes. Thanks again. Kim and Sly

Don’t mistake his patience when the MM acts up as being polite… I’m pretty sure that if he could talk he’d being saying “What the h___ is wrong with you? Hurry up!” And a few other choice words 😆

Short session of fading the platform on a backside wrap. Only did the one side, we’ll do the other side tomorrow or Sunday. The first rep without the platform was interesting, in hindsight I probably should’ve done a rep or two starting him from a sit. Only did the one side as we’d done 4 or 5 reps of the 3 jump Zig Zag raising the bar from 8 to 10” which went really well a little earlier. Somehow I managed to not start the video on those 🙄

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!

I finally got a chance to listen to the recording of the Behavior Vets session you did a month or so ago. It was great, really good info. The case study of the Sheltie was really interesting. Lots for me to think about there for Sly. He drops a bar every 3 or 4 runs….usually what would be the top jump of a spread out pinwheel where I’m running like hell for a cross and almost always I don’t see them fall, only hear them. 😥

Also wanted to share with you that at Lo’s class on Wednesday she noticed and commented on a jump where there was a moderate turn which Sly actually chose to put in a stride and collect for a beautiful turn 🥰 Not something he has historically done…more inclined to jump big and hope for the best. I told her what we were doing in class with the Organizer. She loved the idea….

11-26 Addition. Zig Zags at 10” (2” higher than what we had been doing), preplaced stationary toy, added my motion.

This is actually our 2nd session of this….the first one turned into mostly a “Kim figure out the mechanics” session. Started with him turning to his left as it’s becoming pretty clear that is his stronger side and then after a short break went to his right. I do love this dog…..he SO can make me laugh 🙂 Check out his reaction when the MM doesn’t beep for the 2nd or 3rd time 🙂 Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving.

Oh that’s great, thank you. I missed the info on the extension somewhere. Hope you had a nice weekend.

Quick session with the 3 ZigZag jumps a little flatter. I think we’ve got this now 🥰

The MM as you suspected was challenging but he worked SO hard and I was super pleased with how well he did……massive game of chase the holy roller after this session!!!

You’d think that by now I’d be able to setup the camera so my butt wasn’t in the way 🙄 Easy 3 jump Zig Zag….one “I gotta go now!”. Really liked how he powered through these.

Can you remind me what the last posting date is for the class? Any chance you’d offer a couple more weeks for any of us that wanted to continue a little longer? This has been a great class!

Thanks Tracy. One question about the front side wraps. Do I need to do these increasing the height of the bar before fading the platform/sit? Or do I not need to worry about raising the bar? He’s a 16″ jumper in “real life” – I think the bar was at 10″ the last time we did these.

Hope you’re home and getting caught up on what I’m guessing is some much needed (and much deserved from what I hear 🥰) rest! Guess I’m going to have to figure out how to get to some UKI events this year….😊 A trip to FL next December might just need to be in the plans!

Front side wraps with the MM further away. This one’s pretty long as I left in a couple of reps where we were figuring stuff out for a little comic relief. Going by the magic MM used up a lot of brain cells! I’m going to let this exercise “percolate” for several days while we play with the backsides and some Zig Zags. One of the things I noticed while editing this one was how much tighter his sits on the ground are vs. what they looked like when this class started 😊

Played with the backside wraps later today as well. The hardest part was convincing him to sit and stop on the platform….even with the cued sit. He was like “Hey! I know how this is supposed to work!”

A couple of videos, one from a session yesterday and one from this morning

This is actually our 2nd session with a bar…first session was all about understanding the rules of the new game. I really had to work through the timing on my sit cue. I started this session with him turning left as that seems to be his easier side…at least for jumping, not so much for looking at Mom. Turning right was much easier for him in this exercise. All about how much looking at the Mama, I think. Bar is at either 8 or 10, can’t remember, but seemed like an OK height for this. He’s a 16” jumper in “real life”

This might be our best Zig Zag session yet 🥰 I think we are both figuring them out! I did raise the bar from 6” to 8” and it seems to help him. I think he has to put just a touch more rear into it for the 8” bar and that actually makes the 2nd jump easier. Does that make sense? Or maybe we’re both just getting it figured out 😊

Congratulations on the Open! Looks like it’s been an incredible event! Kudos to all the organizers!

CONGRATULATIONS on Hot Sauce’s Speedstakes win! 🙂 Stay dry tomorrow.

Started with a quick check to see how much of yesterday’s Wing Organizer learnings stuck – gotta love latent learning!!! Still looking up a bit – I think it’s sort of automatic with the sit? And more when on my right than on my left which I’m guessing says that we do more sitting with him on my right. Anyway….this session was so much fun! Love it when he really starts to figure stuff out 🙂

And thanks for the help with everything with the Zig Zags – I think I’ve finally got a good setup and a good “plan” for this game 🙂
