I took your advice on the 4 poles and a bowl and it was really good. I had to do it in my basement, not too much room, so I just basically stood still and sent him each time. I started adding in some crosses, no barking! I put it to the test last night in class and he weaved without back talk or stalling. I will keep training this way, should I add another set of poles yet? I tried the find my face again and it really seemed to calm him down, he was confused at first and started looking for things to do around us. I didn’t have a snuffle matt, so I just purchased one and it arrived today. I will try that this evening, but so far, things seem to be going ok in a somewhat controlled environment. The test will be another trial where he gets way over aroused.

I didn’t answer your question about the food and toys. He can move between the two if I use a tug toy but if the frisbee comes out, he won’t take food. The issue with the tug is that he always wants the part I am holding (ouch). He will tug at home but not in class but will retrieve anything back to me that I toss.

We use a lotus ball with treats in it for class. He gets frustrated, but not as often. At home, I recently tried using the frisbee but he could not think about anything else and began losing all self control. I ended up bruised and battered, so I hid the frisbee and went with the old reliable Lotus ball for the next training session and things went better.

I have just started the find my face and he is getting it in the house. When the rain stops, I will go outside to try it because that is where he is really high.

Hi Bobbie, My dog Redford gets very frustrated with me on agility courses at times and once it starts, it spirals out of control. There seems to be 3 main triggers that start it, the worst is the weave poles, second is a rear cross at a tunnel, third is a back side. I believe that I may be breaking connection but sometimes if I am too connected, he can’t move forward and barks his head off at me. I am struggling to find the balance. If I am perfect, he is perfect. If I make one mistake, there is no coming back…bark bark bark all the way. He seems frustrated and just barks his head off, getting refusals and missed obstacles all along the way as he yells at me. He is frisbee crazy but if I train with it, he is super high and the behavior is even worse and he exhibits a complete lack of self control. The higher he gets, the worse the behavior gets.
