Hello! Here is our recent teeter work.
One-hit uphill: a compilation from this week.

    Backup with higher tip:

    Plank with target:

    Plank with target again:

Plank with balance equipment. He seems happy with this. Should I continue practicing? If so, how often?

Downhill tip to table. We had a couple of “you actually have to eat the cookie” moments.

Hello! Here is Lennan’s first session of one hit on the uphill tip. After we were done, he was quite delighted. Had a big smile on his face. He was like, “that was great, let’s do it again!” (we didn’t).

    Thank-you!
I will definitely incorporate these suggestions for the target with plank and the one hit wonders for uphill.
I had been working with him on the teeter between two things, with no tip and then with downhill tip. I thought he was catching onto the target with this, but I don’t think he has quite got it. Should I work more on the target with the plank before doing this more, or just put the cookies in place when doing the downhill?

Also, tried to improvise with the plank onto fitness equipment. Lennan was entirely delighted (he loves the fitness equipment).

    Hello,
On the bang game in the previous videos, the target was there only to receive the cookies as he didn’t really have a strong target behaviour and we were working on that separately. Here is our target added with the plank.

Here is some backup bang practice.

    Uphill with tip:
Lennan seemed entirely fine with a very small tip. https://youtu.be/vUE-x_f94MU
He was more concerned with increased tip at first. https://youtube.com/shorts/7OS65R8o4RM
He got happier with it on the next session.

    Good morning,
Paw pod things makes perfect sense. We do have those as well as a couple of discs and bones. Lennan loves all the fitness equipment but has not entirely figured out the pods. We are making progress but still working on it. He has worked on walking across different pieces of equipment but not including the paw pods yet as I think he would not try hard to actually step on them at this point. We will work towards that though.

That’s hilarious and awesome that you can use the door dash app to get food delivered to you in your car.

For the teeter I am not sure if I am working towards 2o2o or 4on. If you have a recommendation I would love to hear. I taught my older border collie a 4on and it was beautiful when she learned it. She would run to the end and lean back (almost into a bow position). It did not hold up over time and she began stopping/creeping further up the board. I am sure more could have been done to maintain her behaviour but others have told me that’s just what happens with 4 on and that 2o2o is more clear.

Here are some videos of what we were working on last week. Three are from a few days ago that I totally forgot to post and three are from yesterday afternoon.

We had a little set back on the teeter and I’m not sure why. He’s not particularly worried about the motion I don’t think and he doesn’t tend to be sound sensitive. Previously to this course starting we had been practicing banging the end of the teeter and he had become quite delighted to slam the teeter down. It may be that he’s concerned about the combination of motion and having to stay on, or quite possibly just that he doesn’t understand the criteria at the end of the teeter. He does not like things that are unpredictable. He still seems happy to engage with the teeter and never showed that he didn’t want to approach it at all (which I have definitely seen him do with things he was worried about). In our session yesterday we made significant progress I felt. It is not shown on the video but every time I asked him to turn and go off the teeter I sent him to grab his toy in between reps of starting again. It seemed to help. I did not choose to put the barrel back to where the teeter did not tip as I was worried about Lennan feeling tricked if sometimes the teeter might move and sometimes not due to his dislike of unpredictability. If you have a different suggestion though I’m happy to hear it.

    Hi Tracy,
I hope you had a nice Christmas.

Thanks for the last feedback! I thought when I played my video back that the bars should have been lower on the lazy game.

    Here are some new videos.

    Lazy game with lower bars.

Mountain Climber. Lennan was so excited to see the teeter, we had to work on our sit. He was not into waiting and he usually doesn’t break his sit. We got that going ok though and then added a tiny tip.

Here is our tunnel with wing sequencing again, this time with wings farther away.

Also, no video yet as we practiced while waiting for my other dog in her vet appointment, but we had fun practicing the counter motion game of moving while cueing a sit. He gets it but can be a bit slow with the sit sometimes. I will get video soon.

Lennan had an appointment with our rehab vet this week for an overall assessment. Basically she said he’s perfect. Haha. More specifically she said that he is well balanced, all his joints are in good shape, no mobility issues or hesitations, she commented that he has great muscle for his age, she could tell from his muscles that he must go fast when he sprints, and recommended grippy toe exercises to make going faster even easier. I’m not sure if your vets are doing the same but our vets here are operating on curbside pickup and we can’t go in with the dog (the vet calls to discuss during the appointment). Lennan was perfectly happy to go in and apparently was a very good boy for everything and showed off his body awareness skills. I was very pleased.

    Hello,
Thanks for all the feedback on our last sessions and the suggestion for using the manners minder. Lennan is not in love with the manners minder, but I think it would work for him in the way you suggested.

We got back to trying some backsides again this weekend. Your additional demo video was super helpful! Lennan was going so fast I didn’t feel like I was getting the position accurately and in time. I started to add in asking him to go straight a couple of times just to see if we actually were communicating. Then there was an error on a backside and I could feel the difference at the time and can see it on the video. I was wondering if I should have more space between the starting wing and the jump?

Also, I wanted to share something. I ran the speedstakes course yesterday just for fun with my 8 year old border collie after Jen and River ran. Backside commitment has been something we have consistently struggled with and I have worked on with a variety of instructors through workshops and lessons, all of which has helped but we have never achieved consistency. Yesterday, I turned my upper body to her and used my opposite arm for extra good measure and it turns out she can commit to a backside from like 20 feet away without question. We did not run that course perfectly, but I would have anticipated problems on all those backsides and there just weren’t. She never missed a single one or had any questions or brought bars down (also a problem we’ve experienced with backsides). I was very impressed.

    Congratulations on your speedstakes results!

    Hi!
This is our first attempt at backside slice training. Side one and side two were done in two different sessions with a break in between.

Thanks so much! Starting to add motion to the tunnel threadles makes sense. Thanks for that suggestion!
Sounds good for the serps too. Height and motion separately makes sense. Thanks for the connection note too. I wasn’t sure why the misses happened.

Here is some training we worked on today. This grid was earlier in the day.

Later on we went to practice in a new location (first time ever being there). Lennan was a bit uncertain when we first arrived. We went around and checked everything out. He told me when he was happy and ready to go and wanted his toy. I kept the bars low and only did things he was familiar with so he could build his confidence. We had a little trouble with the backside circle. I think I rushed it and also had the toy in the wrong hand. Lennan thinks that plucking the toy out of the sand is icky so there were no thrown toys. This video is a combination of three separate training sessions within the hour we were there. He took turns with River, although his turn waiting skills definitely need some work.

    Hello,
Here is our smiley face tunnel threadles. Lennan has had trouble previously progressing to threadles with this type of set up and he can’t get it right if I move at all too soon, even moving towards the end of the tunnel that I want. Most of the time in this session I was waiting to see that he was turning in around the wrap of the wing before cueing the threadle. Hopefully that was ok.

Thank-you! With the turn away I kept thinking it must be something I’m doing but I couldn’t quite figure it out. That all totally makes sense.

For the ladder grid, I had the bars at 8″. At what height should they be to add more jumps?

For the get outs, yes I was trying figure out mechanics/timing. More practice for me! He seemed to totally have the idea of get out or no get out though so that was super cool.

    Good morning,
Thanks so much for the last feedback!
I’m posting three videos here. The first one is from a couple of days ago that I forgot to post and the other two were yesterday.

In this video we worked on turn aways on the wing. This proved challenging at first. I’m not sure if my position was not correct? A few times he actually seemed to be quite sure that I was wrong though, lol. He would start to come in to me and then quickly change to the other direction around the wing. Apparently though the toy was just maybe too exciting for his brain because after it didn’t really seem to be working out we took a break, and then came back for another session with no toy and more success.

Here we worked on the ladder grid. I thought he did great on this!

We worked on some get outs again and tried the advanced version, which was hard…for me. Lol.

    Hello!
Yes, I think he was being quite literal when he went past the jump. I pulled the end of the tunnel in a bit after the second time he missed the jump.
Here is another session with bars set to 16″.

We also worked on get out.

Tried to work on transitions. Lennan didn’t need me at all as he demonstrated at the beginning of the video. Lol. On the times he turned away, I think I was too far into the centre of the jump.
