Life got a little hectic there but we’re getting back on the bus!

Here’s a few quick sessions from tonight. Moth was very amped up here and had some trouble tugging and with frustration. I am guessing partially because of FOMO from me working his sister before this (he was crated in another room) and also being cooped up for weeks since the ice storm.

Yes he is sighthound-y in his ears, his love of murdering toys, and his trot gait. He’s an interesting little “border collie” (allegedly).

Here are our attempts at the focus forward and come to heel games. Right before this I had let my dogs play in the yard for awhile. I thought I was making a good dog training decision by letting them get some of their WEEEEEs out before trying to do some skills, but Moth showed me pretty clearly that this was Too Much.

The toy version didn’t go so well. It was the first game we played (again I thought I was making a strategic decision!) but Moth struggled to stay engaged. He also showed clearly why we are working with a behaviorist…. Here I think he reacted to a car driving by, which is not normally his style. (His style is currently animals, sounds that could be animals, rustling leaves that could be animals, creepy people, dogs barking, and, as I learned while editing this, the sound of my voice specifically in recordings…) I was surprised he was so spooked and off task. Normally he does not seem worried in this part of the property, but he normally has social support from his sister (who I had just put in the car) and the big distraction of her running and being so fun. I’ll try this one again inside tomorrow….at least his recall was super!

Here is our attempt with food. This went a lot better which doesn’t surprise me because he had had more time to settle in and also food is life for him.

And here’s our coming into heel!
