ParticipantHi!!!
Ok. I was dyyyying to see what Frankie would do in this exercise! We did the jump first & the tunnel second.I made a mistake by using a thrown toy as the reward. It was too high value and she was so distracted. She hasn’t had this toy in a while and she was off the charts distracted. She normally does not jump all over me but she was. There were a lot of tries where she just circled me & tried to get the toy. I took a break and just played with the toy with her and came back to the setup. She eventually got it on the jump. I don’t think I lured her! I showed you the try before her breakthrough moment on the jump. I tried adding in the “ready. ready” but then not moving only saying the verbal. I hope I did it right.
I think there were a lot of firsts for us here. I don’t think I have ever sent her to a jump from a standstill on just a verbal with no movement before. It was interesting! I have not worked with her with collar holds in this context like I have been doing with Bazinga.
Can’t wait to hear your feedback!
PS – I swear I am not jerking her around by the collar. I am holding it & she is a spaz! It looks terrible on video!Verbal Only – Jump
Verbal Only – Tunnel

Kathy McClung. Reason: Note about collar holding

ParticipantHi! Quick question before we get started on the single obstacle warm-ups.
I’m going to start with a thrown reward for the single obstacle warm-up. I am thinking that the Manners Minder would be considered a lure for the warm-up exercises. Is that right?
I thought you mentioned that the MM is ok for when there are 2 obstacles and the dog has to discriminate between 2 obstacles. So can I use it once I switch to the seated jump & tunnel discrimination exercise?Thank you!!!!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
It is too rainy to play outside today so I found a game we hadn’t tried yet that we could do indoors. We tried out Tight Turns: Leading With The Head and 360s (Backside Wraps).
Our upright is a little janky, so I ordered some 5-way PVC connectors so I can make a real upright for the next session. I started with right turns (her hard turns) and realized it after a few tries. We switched to lefts – much easier for her. Then we switched back to rights. She faked me out with her heat cycle & now she is having her real heat. Poor baby. I have to leave her home while I go to a trial this weekend, so we won’t get to play until Monday.
I’m so bummed!Have a great weekend!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Sorry for the long lapse in videos. My senior girl is having some health issues. She seems to be doing better (fingers crossed). I have just been frozen and afraid to train. I don’t know why…kinda like I was going to break everything. It is weird how training gets so emotional. Anyway, I took the plunge & me & Bazinga had some fun today ☺ so that is a good thing!
I startedback with the barrels because they are the thing that I was feeling least confident about. I refreshed the front crosses and she was really into playing the game with the toy. I picked my new left wrap sound. It is Sweet, Sweet, Sweet, but kind of like Swee-Swee-Swee. There is one rep where swee-swee-swee & choo-choo-choo clearly sounds like the music from Friday the 13th! LOL
I have not tried the Advanced Rocking Horse Part 1 – Fast Forward, Slow Forward and side sends. I need to try that next.
I did try some spins. She did good! I had trouble with the left spin, but she forgave me. I’ll work on my mechanics more and try the side sends.
I need to dive in & try some of the games we haven’t started yet! I think the Backside Slice will be next.I’m looking forward to your feedback & thank you! I think I just need a shove in the right direction.

ParticipantHi Tracy!
We are at a trial this weekend so we are practicing startlines and playing the Find My Face game. Can I say how much I love this game!?!? Bazinga thinks it’s fun too.-

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We had to take a few days off. I was at a trial and couldn’t bring Bazinga because she had her first heat. <sad face>We played some today.
We had a good session of Strike a Pose 3 – with verbals. I tried very hard to not move my arms.
We also did the RC mat game with the MM further away & turned. She was less bouncy but I took a picture instead of starting the video. LOL!
I was so excited to see how her Tunnel Threadles were going. I had to move the tunnel because of an ant hill and she just flat out did not want to go in the tunnel. So I didn’t push her. We came back to it later in the day and I moved it again and she ran into it, so I played a little, but she ended the game quickly. I’ll see how she feels tomorrow or the next day. Here is what we did today.
We are down 2 pool noodles for the Minny Pinny game. (Rest in Peace) Any ideas of something I can use that won’t look so fun to her? I can get new ones but I’m not sure if they’ll survive!
Thanks for the feedback!

ParticipantHi Tracy! The sun came out today!
Here is what we worked on.Strike a Pose 3 – with verbals & fading out the hand target touch.
I hope I’m not moving my threadle hand too much? Do I need to stay totally still?
Tunnel Threadles – Right turns added angles and Double Whammy
She did great with the right threadle turns when we started from a collar hold. She got tight turns and ran confidently into the tunnel. Once I started with the Double Whammy, she spun on some of them. Maybe it relates to where I am, she seems to be looking at me when she spins.
We did some Minny Pinny with a toy and I tried the FC & turn & burn at the end.
I briefly tried working on the Rear Crosses with the Prop, but I wasn’t sure we were headed in the right direction on progress. She was really bouncy & was not hitting the prop. I did some refreshing on sending to the prop and side sends to the prop (not pictured). I’m thinking we’ll need to keep the value for touching the prop for the Get Out game.
Thank you!

ParticipantHi!
We had sotrms here yesterday & my yard as too wet to play, so no videos today.Hotsauce is Bazinga’s soul sista!!!!❤️ They are boing-y! Thank you for the videos – they were helpful.
I will try moving the MM further away and turning it (brilliant). For sure she is excited about it! I have a funny ticktok of her doing her boing” for the MM when she was much tinier. It is interesting that she doesn’t do it when it is paired with the tunnel, so maybe the novelty wears off in each situation.
I like the threadle verbal “close” – that one makes sense to me. So I’ll use that ☺
I am thinking that I need to change my left wrap verbal from RevRevRev. The “R” is messing with my head as my brain tries to confirm what direction I’m sending to & then what word to use. Would it be super confusing to Bazinga if I change it now? Thanks!

ParticipantHI Tracy!
OMG! Left & Right!!!
>>
Her work on the minny pinney looks good! I think either youtube had the sound off kilter or your verbals were backwards – you were saying right when she was starting on your right hand… but she was turning left 🙂 And at :25 and :53 – she was correct based on the verbal LOL! I have a video somewhere where I did the entire session with the verbals backwards LOL no harm, no foul, the dogs forgave me LOL!
>>Maybe I should just say them wrong forever & that will work! I made SIGNS this time to give me a reference. (I hope I did them right)
I think the pool noodles helped but little girl really wanted to run away with them & eat them at first. Ha!
Tunnel threadle (rights – hard) I scrunched the tunnel and used the MM.
I also did the left turns with motion & did some Double Whammies – she thinks that is fun!
I protected your eyes from the beginning (you’ll see… it had to be done!)Running contacts on the mat with the MM
Refresh on Strike a Pose 2 and first try at Strike a Pose 3
Thanks for the feedback!

ParticipantYou. Are. Brilliant! MM inside the tunnel for the win!!!
I made sure to let her help me place the MM inside the tunnel so she knew it was there. Hahaha!
I’m off camera for the beginning but I started with some regular tunnels to get her warmed up & then I switched her to the threadle position. We worked around the clock a bit and she was getting it!!!
Minny Pinny with verbals.
I added the verbals and used the collar hold. I added the 3 jump bars – they are panels from a panel jump. I noticed that she stepped on them a bit since she was walking through & bot jumping. Should I change them out to locked in bars?Am I setting her up fo the next rep in the correct postion like you mentioned?
>>
My only suggestion is that after the cookie, you line her up again to start so she is not turning away from you to get into it on all of them.
>>
Running contact game: Go to & go through the mat. I warmed her up with the go-to the mat & then we did some go through the mat. I am trying to time my marker word with her back paws hitting the mat.
Also, kind of an aside question. Should I start Frankie on the tunnel beginner exercises Bazinga is learning to introduce her to the verbal & help her with the Tunnel Class?
Thank you!!!!
Kathy McClung
ParticipantThank you! That makes sense. One more tiny piece of a question – it is ok that she will not finish the tunnel but come back out after she gets her treat?
Kathy McClung
ParticipantHi Tracy,
Weirdness: Yes! I saw her ears go back when she noticed the pillow-pile like “what the what?” and then she ran right over there to see what it was! Yes, Frankie is much more cautious!I have a question on these instructions (I love the idea of putting the MM in the tunnel!)
>>But don’t do that on the right turns: for the right turns, start at a right degree angle to the tunnel entry, very close to it, holding her collar and saying tunnel tunnel tunnel… when she looks at the tunnel, keep saying it and let go of her collar (then throw the reward).
One thing that helped my dogs get it on the the it non-dominant side was to put the reward right inside the tunnel entry. So the MM was a foot or two inside the tunnel, or a toy. That really helped! then you can gradually move the toy to the exit of the tunnel, and also gradually move her start position so she is further from the entry. >>Do you mean for me to stop doing the threadles on right turns & go back to only doing the “tunnel, tunnel” (dog/human/tunnel) exercise and put the MM inside (or toss a cookie inside)? Or would I do it for the threadles?
Thanks!-

ParticipantWe did not get to play today – crazy work day but this morning I set up a Weirdness Gauntlet!
Kathy McClung
ParticipantHi! Here is what we have been working on.
Left/Right Minny Pinny
I was super excited to try these after watching the live class.
What verbals, you ask? I’m going for it…I’m going to say the real, actual, scary words “Left” & “Right”!!!
I think she did really well! I may need to do less hand movement?
Tunnel Threadle – Right Turns
We played Wed & Thursday. She is still spinning on the right turns. Thursday she got a right hand turn! I ended on that note and will try again and see if she remembers how it felt to turn that way into the tunnel.
Rear Crosses with Prop
>>
A couple of things to change to as well:Put the prop more directly in front of her now (or move yourself over :)) so she is not needing to cut in front of your feet to get to it. That way she can go straight-ish and you can cut behind her for a rear cross like it would be on the jump.
Also, try not to say ‘go’ or swing your hand across you – both of those will mean different things when we move to a jump. What to say instead? You can do something like a ‘ready set…’ then a silly noise 🙂 When we move to a jump, we will add directionals for the turn, but for now we don’t want to add them to the prop.
>>I tried a session where I didn’t say “go” and tried not to use my arms. I think I need a lot of help about my mechanics for this. My current rear cross verbal is “go jump” (I did not choose a very good verbal). I also rely on my arms (I sweep the dog-side arm in front of me & then change to the new-side arm as Frankie approaches the jump). I will rewatch your video!
