ParticipantI understand you (Tracy) will be doing some in-person seminars this summer for young dogs. Do you know how we find out about these and if there are any working spots?
I see you have a facebook page “Tracy Sklenar Seminars” for people to follow but I didn’t see any news of in-person seminars.-

ParticipantThanks for this week’s videos building on the “catch” and transitioning to “break” with a jump. I found them very beneficial. Zany, my 6 month old Boarder Collie, is doing great with your technique. Teaching stay has become fun for the both of us!

ParticipantTracy,
Thanks for both your very helpful and timely answers.

ParticipantAs far as learning break, it worked like a charm. The only concern I have is I currently wait for her to offer me her stationary position (for her it is a down). But when I want to lead out to do something, versus just lead out to do a catch, I want her lined up towards something in particular (like a laundry hamper). Not sure how I work towards lining up straight if I just wait for her to offer me something. In the past, using a more traditional way to teach a stay, my dogs have always lined up between my legs so I can set them up just so.

ParticipantI had the same problem. My puppy was consistent in a small area but out in my big arena she would choose to have some parties of one. This is what I did: When my puppy chose not to bring me the toy, I calmly walked up to her (with no emotion), put a leash on her harness, and took the toy. I then attached her leash to a few sand bags and got out my older well trained dog and tugged with him while my puppy watched. I then got my puppy out to play and retrieve the toy. It took 2 rounds of this and on the third time, she brought the toy right back to me every time. She has been 100% since then. Now it has only been a few days but it seems like we really turned the corner. Let’s hope I haven’t jinxed us. I am interested in what Tracy thinks about this approach.

ParticipantTracy,
I just got done watching the video of the live class and didn’t see you discuss training the break versus the catch. Did you mean in a future week? Also, when I watched the recorded video, I couldn’t see the chat so I didn’t get the link to the facebook training on releasing the toy.
I understand you may not get to answer me within the next few days because of the holidays. No problem, I have lots to work on.

ParticipantPerfect sense, thanks.
