ParticipantThank u Tracy. You have helped us a lot as before our class .. I really didn’t have a pathway out. He shoots off so quickly. You have taught us tricks and the idea of engagement .. I realise it’s a work in progress so we will continue. I very much appreciate your detailed feedback and time. It’s so frustrating bec he’s a dog who actually enjoys his agility… thank u again!!!

ParticipantHi tracy. probably our last post. we were at a seminar this weekend …
I started with tricks
I still need a solution to my unclip the leash – here he is in all his glory …
Would you recommend a ‘carry him in ‘ with my leash already off?-

ParticipantThat is a really super explanation. Thank you. I did not know how to move the pattern games where he looks at me between throws ., I did not know how to move that to something where he offers engagement without food .. I get it now … sorry if I’ve been a bit slow on the uptake . I havnt been doing much of the chill games for outside the ring but will try. I havnt made it a priority. He’s happy to walk around with me and just hang out. It’s that entrance to the starting gate that’s been poisoned. I have a seminar this weekend so will be able to post some new video from that.

ParticipantHi Tracy .. we are trying to combine a few things here. tell me what u think. So i am in an area where there are big smells. I have a remote reward .. his treats are in the container. As he seems to struggle as soon as I unclip the leash at trials … I am trying to unclip followed by games followed by take a jump and run back to reward on cue. Here is Sparky. A lot of people are saying to me I should have the reward in front of him in training – bec what i am doing is only teaching him to run backwards for the treat … i feel I’m on the right path… My only battle with him .. and its big .. is the leash off seems to be the permission to disengage and sniff!! that’s the behaviour I need to repair…

ParticipantTracy yes .. when I play pattern game inside he’s looking at my hands for next treat .. not my face?
Kerrie Weil
ParticipantOk yes !!!
Kerrie Weil
ParticipantOk Tracy yes I understand. That sounds perfect. Do u still want me to throw food on the ground for pattern games? Or just drop it at my feet rather than have him move away from me?
Kerrie Weil
Participanthi tracy .. park location … I think it was maybe a little better – minute. See towards the end I must have dropped a crumb and then had trouble lifting his nose!! But otherwise progress –

ParticipantIm such an idiot .. I came out with 2 leashes and dropped both of them .. so Sparky quickly moved to the caged treats .. but… we fixed it ))) I think k today was marginally better than yesterday! Also tracy i’m afraid I can’t get to the chat tomorrow … very disappointed

ParticipantHi Tracy..thanks for putting me on the right path again. We went out and did Kryptonite game. I removed the floor from a crate and placed it on wet grass ….( kryptonite 1) then he watched me dropping liver treats into the closed crate. Ok … I think we went really well and I think I need to practice this each day. How to I change the level of difficulty for this .. not that he’s ready atm? also… did I do the right thing with treats on my body?
Kerrie Weil
ParticipantOk so thinking more .. I could use the crate game .. release to a jump and start putting food on the side snd get him to ignore it?

ParticipantHi Tracy .. I’m not a member of a club .. I think it would prob help him a lot. Will think abt joining one.
I think I have an issue with Sparky that is really out of the box. Today I took him to a shopping mall and got him to do tricks and lead outs .. no problem but I did have food on me.
Another thing .. I’ve been trying to think creatively .. I know that if I set his crate up at the startline .. he would run with me no problem. Do u think there’s anyway I could incorporate this into his start lines? Maybe I could bring the crate close .. break him .. run in .. take off leash .. connect and run? What do u think.
Just to give u another idea abt Sparky’s super nose. Today when I arrived home I drove into my garage which is a brick structure . I took him to the back door to let him into the house .. took off his leash and he belted out the garage door .. he never does this. I called him back .. nothing.. I went out to the street to look .. no one there and then I noticed him eating a piece of biscuit that a bird must have dropped .. I was astounded. So the point to my story is .. all the bits of food that people drop before entering the ring is really hard for him to resist 😟Kerrie Weil
ParticipantOh ok … I see what you are saying … yes… I’ll try that .. just keep my reward at my gazebo or crate …. and the after the run … super speed run back to that or get a friend to hold some treats in their hand ..without him knowing they are there!! Thank you
