ParticipantWe managed to squeeze in a session tonight while the weather was a cool 85 degrees, felt like 90. Once again Kool was a trooper with the heat. He’s run faster when it’s cooler, but I was happy to see his enthusiasm. Here are the Package 2 Challenge 2 Sequences. https://share.icloud.com/photos/04dbaMrQ_3qfh4o0d0-qym3gw

ParticipantKool and I attended an agility seminar in Dallas, TX this past weekend. He’s been away from agility classes, trials and seminars (except for Brain Camp this past December) for about ten months. We worked on mat relaxation, set ups seeing other dogs, target stick and my agility skills 🙂 The comment that I heard from Meagan Skelton, was that he was so improved since last year. He had resilience and confidence that I haven’t seen before. Here is a video of one of our sessions during the seminar. https://youtu.be/ySeEZjLbuTk
To complete the stress cycle after the seminar, we took a sniff walk on a long-line in a park without distractions and then did a little nose work. Then, he had a nice big stuffed kong and chew before he crashed for the evening. I can really see the work put in so far is starting to pay off. I know we still have a ways to go. But, I’m overjoyed at how happy he was at this event.-

ParticipantWe are planning on taking the relaxation work in the crate on the road, to a local park, this week. Also, we will be doing dog T.V., relaxing in the crate, in the back of the car.
Here is video of some work this week with Kool on the Target Stick, Treat Retreat (after the table and the A-Frame) on the course. Also, my friend did some Judge like behavior. We’ll add more pressure next time. After we did this, I had him run the course with no pressure on it to make it fun. https://youtu.be/d5BAqWyxs3g

ParticipantWorking on Mat Relaxation with Kool in his crate at our agility field. I added some music and my motion outside the crate to see if he could still remain calm and in the crate. I felt is went well. Dr. Haug thought it looked good and suggested I use the same noise (music) in all of the other locations we start taking this to. https://youtu.be/gQY2B01ySFc

ParticipantKool & I worked on the Target Stick behavior again with my friend and then we moved to Kool & I running some sequences and my friend sat behind a blind and appeared when Kool was running in her direction. Kool only looked at Susan a couple of the times and proceeded on to complete the sequences. In the past, he would have either alert barked or would have slowed down due to the distraction. https://youtu.be/S3YBpwvUBw4

ParticipantWe worked some more on the Week 2 Handling Challenge 3 and I added speed to the sequences. Also, I set the wing and first jump a few feet further away. The threadle wrap is most definitely our weakest of the six sequences. We’ll be working this handling skill away from these drills over the weekend. https://share.icloud.com/photos/0a8mPsVi3LD6wilaUwpzbVkhg

ParticipantHere is more work on Week 2 Handling Challenge 4. We moved the wing further back today. I tried to speed it up, but I couldn’t get far away from the jump for him to take the backside. https://share.icloud.com/photos/0b4x49oEvgnU-tDBRi1llBFwg
The tunnel, however, he will take in a heartbeat. I plan on working the backside separately.Kurt Hamlen
ParticipantHere is video of Kool at Nosework class this past weekend. We were waiting to work hides in a room that we haven’t worked in before. He decides to visit with one of the class members who has seen and said hi to over the past three months. This was behavior we have never seen Kool offer to anyone other than Kurt and I. Behavior change is definitely underway. https://youtu.be/9iDhLxtgcxM

ParticipantHere is video of our Week 2 Handling Challenge 4 sequences. Tunnel sends were pretty smooth. To get the backside I had to stay pretty close to the jump. https://share.icloud.com/photos/090Ja9jrPNXJwr53cpQGI4Uxg

ParticipantHere is a video of Kool and I working the Week 2 Handling Challenge 3 sequences. Our backsides are still not independent and we haven’t worked the 360 wraps a lot so the turn is pretty wide to pull him off the tunnel. https://share.icloud.com/photos/09d_8910kNRLaoxsKYHenYpEA

ParticipantHappy Mardi Gras ya’ll! This is how we do it agility style. Kool said, “Throw me something Mister!” With every sequence. He was telling me “I know what I’m doing, you don’t need to help.” I ended up holding the collar to get him to listen to the verbals before I sent him. Kool tended to want to take whatever obstacle was closest to him. He was trying harder towards the end of the session to listen to the verbal rather than throwing himself to the obstacle next to us. ParticipantHere is video of Kool and I in a session working the week 1 handling 2 combos. The verbals were not rolling off my tongue very quickly, but I managed to spit a few out. https://youtu.be/GIMwt4126fQ
