ParticipantHi Tracy,
I am thinking about doing your seminar at Paws for Thought July 4th weekend and there is a class called Decels/Turns for Novice and Beyond that I thought about signing up for but I want your opinion based on what you saw this weekend as to whether this would be helpful or we aren’t ready for what you have planned.
The videos from this weekend were super helpful and I feel like I owe a donation to the SPCA! 😂

ParticipantYou are the best and thank you so much for all of those reminders! Sometimes I get so caught in making the videos I forget the most important part to play. 😊

ParticipantHere are a couple of videos from today. This is working the stay and not as much on engagement.
I am working on the jumping on Momma! 😉 I try to change up my duration to keep him guessing. I also didn’t need to ask for the down since he automatically does it because I have always asked for it at home and there are less distractions.
In this video he does the butt up in the air, I wait long enough and he puts it down but then I try to move and he does creep so I decided to to tell him to get it so he didn’t continue to fail but I am not sure that is what I should have done. I don’t know if he creeped because I stopped and then I moved and he might not be ready for that. He seems to be more solid when I stand still and release or continue to walk and release vs stopping and then moving again.
In the 2nd video you will see he was trying to get the frisbees so I asked him for a hand touch and after the hand touch I moved them to my other hand and he thought I was going to throw them so he took off over the jump and waited. We do play frisbee in the backyard and after I threw it I thought I probably shouldn’t have since we are working on him not leaving me for a jump unless I ask. Other than that he did great.
He is always better at home but you will get to see him in action at Fleischmann field in a little over a week!

ParticipantThank you so much that does make a lot of sense! I will try and get some video and send it over so you can let me know what you think. 🙂

ParticipantThis weekend I discovered I could get some better stays out of Zyp using his frisbee then we also worked on blinds in front of the tunnel. We had some good ones and then some not so good ones which I think were because of my timing or my body language as usual. It is amazing how honest the dog is and that if he doesn’t do something right I know the reason will show up in the video.
The first one was pretty good
The 2nd video Momma screwed up so I tried not to let him know by continuing to move
3rd one I tried to fix my timing
The 4th one I think the direction of my body pulled him off the jump to soon

ParticipantI hope all is well with you…it has been a while since I have been able to post anything because the weekends were not nice enough to work outside and I have in person classes 3 days a week. I have been spending a lot of time at home on stays with Zyp but I have nothing when I get to class so I took him to the building to work stays and threw in a couple of the blind lessons as payment for a few quick stays. Zyp was committed to all the obstacles which was good and in the blind 2 video I think maybe I was late in my blind and he was turning left which I have mentioned before his left turns are a lot wider so he went behind me. I paid him anyway because I assumed I didn’t cue him early enough. For some reason in blind 3 my video stopped on the tunnel so I don’t know if I hit the remote by accident, oops.
Is there something I should be working on to tighten up his left turns?
Also something I noticed when I use a verbal he talks back to me almost every time and there have been times that if I ask for a dig, dig or check, check he will spin in front of the jump and bark if I am to early with the verbal.

ParticipantIn this first video we worked on timing and connection and I think I didn’t have good enough connection going to the right the first time so he missed the middle jump but when I made sure I did the second time he was dead on.
The second video we practiced concept transfer to wraps with my Akita Zen supervising and I think she is glad to be watching and not doing agility anymore. 🙂 I can’t tell for sure if my connection is not as good to the right because it seems like going to the left is a lot smoother to the middle jump. The first time I was late telling him to go to the tunnel and I was facing the wrong direction so he went in the wrong end so my bad. I found using the verbal “go” to the middle jump helps him keep moving and not look at me.

ParticipantI tried your suggestion of throwing earlier for the plank today and I raised it a little more than a couple inches because it was the only blocks I have and of course your suggestions worked great! My timing for the treat throws were definitely way behind before and after doing a few reps paying him sooner I can see Zyp’s head looking forward instead of at me in this video.
We also tried the lazy game sends with the tunnel and I spread everything out further than the pinwheel game from the first week. After watching the video back I think I could start closer to the jumps and send him to the tunnel because he has a pretty good tunnel send but I am not sure if you want me to because then I might have less movement. I did notice his turn to the left over the middle jump is wider than his turn to the right.
I love your feedback and I really appreciate all your help!

ParticipantThank you for the feedback on the pinwheel, I can definitely see what you mean about tossing the treat early so he doesn’t look at me. I will try making the pinwheel bigger and paying sooner.
The video below is walking the plank and you might not be able to tell by the angle of the camera but Zyp was getting so excited he was leaping off the plank and maybe that didn’t matter but I tried to slow down a little to see if he would walk the plank.
We also worked on one step sends and it looks like I might have been getting to close to the wings. By the 3rd video I was a little better but at one point Zyp did exactly what I asked him when I turned the wrong way by mistake! 🙂

ParticipantThank you for your feedback on the regular connection it was really helpful and made sense. We practiced it again with my local trainer during a training session this Thursday and Zyp was able to find the line going both directions so I don’t know if it was a matter of latent learning or I slowed down a bit.
Today we went out between the rain and snow to do the FC, spin and blind and I was only able to practice dog on left. Zyp did very well with the FC & spin even though I think I was late on the blind during the first spin and he still took the jump, which makes me happy since he is still a baby and already bailing me out.
The blinds need work and I am sure it is due to my timing because the first attempt he took the 2nd jump but he had too much speed and had to turn back my direction. The second time as soon as I peeled off right he followed me as you can see in the video.

ParticipantIt is around an hour and a half from where I will be with Traffic in Tampa. I will keep her in mind though and let me know if you come up with anyone else. What would be the best way to contact her?

ParticipantHi Tracy…I haven’t posted in a while and there is so much to work on and revisit on a daily basis but I haven’t done videos.
We are going to be on the gulf coast in FL for the month of December and I was wondering if you know of any seminars or trainers that you could recommend a drop in lesson while we are there. We will be in Hudson, Clearwater & Sarasota but I would drive if it isn’t too far.
Thank you for any suggestions you can provide.

ParticipantSorry I uploaded the videos on my phone and didn’t realize they were set as private so I have fixed it. In the grid video they are set at 4.5 feet and it looks like his front feet land just over the bar he is jumping.
Thank you so much for the advice on the start stay because I would rather not fight with him about it if I don’t have to since the stay is already hard for him. I will ask Zyp for a down instead of a sit to start so he is not doing something different from the verbal.
Also, the solution you have to his frustration in the backyard makes complete sense because he does not do it when we are in the ring during training or practicing because there is a process that is clear to him.

ParticipantI have not posted in a while but we have been working different lessons on a daily basis. I have been working a lot of stays in the house and outside but Zyp is starting to lean forward or lay down when placed in front of a jump and I am not sure how to fix it. I have been tossing his holee ball or treat back to him several times before I release him but as soon as I walk away sometimes he lays down in anticipation.
He hadn’t started to lie down in the video here but he started shortly after.
We also practiced wrap proofing last week which was a little challenging when I started because I had the wing too close to the tunnel and he has very high value for the tunnel. I had moved the wing further away in this video.
Zyp is also getting more vocal about the game and sometimes just starts offering behavior before I have asked. Should I try to de-escalate him a little with pattern games when he is in that mode before I start anything?

ParticipantI decided to try the set point exercise today and I am not sure if I had the distance correct for Zyp’s stride. He didn’t do to bad with the stays considering he had to sit right in front of the bar and I think if I did it a few more times he would get better. I started him between the bars then moved him back. I also didn’t realize the bowl was not in the picture in the 2nd video until after I watched it.
