ParticipantI have started cutting her meals back to help with training recently and I think it has helped some.
She varies on the week. Right now, I’d say she’s on the thinner side, but two weeks ago, she was a chunk.
With meals, the three older dogs I have wait patiently in the kitchen while I make their food. Thistle is usually off rampaging on the couches or entertaining herself in some way. I would say food has been a challenge to keep her interested in. I have even gone as far as doing a late breakfast training session so she missed normal breakfast time and tried getting her hungry for that and she was still “meh” about it.
Cheese excites her. Steak is good but she really only wants it when there’s other dogs around. If there’s no competition for it, she doesn’t care much.krvolcom9
ParticipantI didn’t mean to post here! Good job Susan And Snorkel!! lol..

ParticipantThis was our second round and I think she is getting the idea of it. I am going for more enthusiasm but not getting as fast of movements as I’d like. Do you have ideas on how to make this more fun for her?

ParticipantWe don’t have any upright jumps and you can see I am having to be more exciting for her to be more excited about doing it. I am excited to hear your feedback on how to improve this for the week ahead.

ParticipantI am working on this from another class and we have been shaping behaviors with a Tupperware lid. She understands the context and I am hoping you are okay if I use this to continue training it.
I also wanted to apologize for the gap in posting. I have been going back to the previous lessons from Unit One to really build up treat training and getting her excited to train with me. I think it has been working because she is not wanting to leave the training room anymore and she will go lay in there and wait for me to play. I am VERY excited about the improvement for at home training. In some of the videos, you might see me remember to be more exciting and bring the energy to her. I am still working on it! But I am proud of the improvement.

ParticipantI think there is definitely room for improvement but we are planning to continue to build this up so she’s bringing the tug quickly back to me.

ParticipantThis one was hard for me but I think I found something I can continue to build with her.

ParticipantSpin/Twist R1 – treat/lure
Next round + Treats
R3 – Chuck it?She has tried this before but we haven’t worked a lot on it.
Is the chuck it anything? I was trying to figure out how to reward her indoors. With my other border collie, I taught her twist/spin with her chuck it but the reward was the ball getting thrown (and we were outside).
Curious what you see!krvolcom9
ParticipantWe had fun with this! This was our first training session with her new tug. We played a little bit with it when we got it yesterday but she is still learning how best to grab it.

ParticipantMat + (Treat Round 1)
Mat + Tug R2
Mat + Tug R3We started with a treat reward, but I think she’s having more fun with her tug reward. Let me know your thoughts!

ParticipantRewatching that, I see the change in behavior with the “uh-oh” too. I will stop using this. The class she’s in is having us do that! So moving forward, we won’t be using that. Thank you!

ParticipantI totally see what I did wrong. I have the right size boxes now and will use them instead of the laundry basket. I think the sides are too high for her to easily move through which is causing her to move slowly instead of move through the box.
We will continue to work on this after your feedback to make sure I am understanding it right!

ParticipantWe are working on this in her Companion class in a different way (no dish, standing while holding a treat above my head, slowly lowering it until it is tossed after she stays in a sit until released).
I think she will definitely get it.

ParticipantRSO – Low Value Tug
RSO- High Value TugWe started with a low value tug because I wasn’t sure she’d wait for her favorite one. She was a little frustrated I think, but overall, I think she’s getting it.
Something I need help with is learning how to end a tug session. -
