Find the Jump – with Extras!
    Hey, there, Tracy!
Keiko was really focused today, and seemed really happy to work. We took breaks, but then she always returned to the set-up area, looking ready to go again. So here is our second visit to the Find the Jump exercise. She loves being able to run and do sequences, so this is really up her alley. I added more distance – both with her sending on ahead of me, and with me more lateral. You’ll also notice I tossed in some little course changes here and there so she had to pay attention to what might be going on. I was particularly pleased with the run where I used her Left turn verbal as she went into the tunnel and then switched things around. We also used “out” and “go ons”. We both had fun! ๐Ÿ™‚ ~Kristie

    Hi, Tracy
Here’s some more work on Sends and Serps. I tried to add a bit of speed to some of the runs, and worked on getting the reward lined up properly on the far side of the start wing so the line was more serpentine-like. I added some more distance from the wing to the jump. Toward the end, we also changed the wing position so she had to do a couple of “backs”. We were having a good time, and I think this went pretty well. ~Kristie

    Hi again, Tracy,
Here’s our first work on the Sends & Serps. I worked both sides, and also worked on placing the wing farther and farther away from the jump. I also tossed in a few arounds with front crosses – and left a couple in for you to see. ๐Ÿ™‚ What should our next focus be on this exercise? Thanks, ~Kristie

    Hello, Tracy,
So, here’s another shot at the verbals and the “minny-pinny” set up. After a review of lefts, I focused primarily on right turns, as well as on turns on the inside (away from me into the jumps). There were a few mis-steps, but using my hand and/or leg on the away turns really helped. ~Kristie

    Hi, Tracy,
Here’s a session with the zig-zag, focusing on the right side (Keiko’s less preferred side). I started with the wings 10′ apart as you suggested. She worked 3 wings well, then I went to 4 and she was inconsistent, so I off-set the second wing, and also when I left her I walked in the direction I wanted her to take. As you can see in the video, we were able to move the second wing back in gradually until the line was straight. I made sure we went to the left side, too, just to keep things “even.” ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hello!
Okay – here’s our visit to the Minny-Pinny update. I did a quick review, then tried using verbals and no body motion, though my body was turned in the “correct” direction. Although Keiko did well with the right and left verbals, she was really only confident when she was placed on my outside. I did try some verbals with her between me and the center of the wings. She was able to do a few turning left, but we didn’t get much from the right side. We finished with some successful left turns and called it quits, since I could tell she was getting tired. It’s obviously time to ramp up our right turn practice so she is as comfortable with right as she seems to be with left. ~Kristie

    HI, Tracy,

We worked on the Zig-Zag/slices again, using some of your suggestions. She was moving through them well, so I pushed the wings closer together so they were about 5′ apart. Then I added a 5th wing, and she did well with that, too. The only problem we’re running into is my girl definitely seems to seem to prefer turning/going to the left. When I started her with the wing on her left, she was great. When I put her on the other side of the wing, she would skip the first opening and then start the weaving. So, we’ll back up a bit and do some placed rewards, fewer wings, etc. to help build up that other side. ~Kristie
Here’s the left side from today:

Here’s one more from us, Tracy. ๐Ÿ™‚
Keiko and I worked on the Find-the-Jump exercise. It gave her a chance to run and have some fun. I’m not sure I remembered all the different positions you wanted us to try, so I did several different things, then moved the jump out farther a couple of times. Suggestions for improvement and next steps? Thanks!

    Hi, Tracy,
Here’s our first shot at the Zig Zag setup. We started out with 2, then 3 wings. At the end, I added a 4th wing, which she did once. I could tell she was getting tired of this activity, so we quit at this point. Should I be doing something more or less with my arms and hands? What should we try next? Thanks! ~Kristie

    Hi, Tracy,
Hereโ€™s our review session for October of the set point exercise. I realize she may grow a bit more, so once a month check-ups seems like a good idea. Looks like the current distance and set up are still on target. Kristie

    HI, Tracy,
Oh, I didn’t realize they were vet-directed. I understand you can’t really post them as activities or give feedback. So, if it is okay, I’d love to see the posts of what you’re doing. Will you want to just post on Kim and Sly’s thread and I can look in over there once in a while? I don’t want to make a lot of extra work for you. Thanks,

    ~Kristie

    Hi, Tracy,
I saw your reply to my questions about the tight sit and back leg exercises you were showing Kim. You mentioned possibly adding a thread or game to our class. If youโ€™re okay with adding them, I imagine there are others here who would appreciate having the info and trying the exercises. Just my two bits. ๐Ÿ˜‰. Kristie

    Hi Tracy and Kim,
I wanted to check on something and be sure it is okay with both of you. I like watching Kim handle, and I find I learn a lot from Kim’s analysis of an exercise and the questions she asks. Besides, Sly is just too cute! I am especially interested in the information on tight sits and the exercises Tracy is using that are posted here. If you don’t plan on posting them as a class exercise, then I’ll be checking back here, if that is all right. Thanks, ~Kristie

    Hi, Tracy,
I agree – donโ€™t want a lopsided dog! Iโ€™m thinking about starting work on the right turn verbal. If it seems too much, I can ease back, but I think she may have spent enough time with left that a new word and direction will fit. Iโ€™ll keep you posted. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Hi, Tracy,
Thanks for the info about cuing on the tunnel/wing turns. I tried to give her the turn cue before she entered the tunnel, and also to move laterally as she entered so she could have that cue, also. You will notice, I’m sure, that I “goosed up” the course a bit. I wanted to be sure we were doing lefts from more than one place/side, so I added 2 more wings. She didn’t seem to have any trouble adjusting to doing things a bit differently, and I was pleased with her level of enthusiasm. ๐Ÿ™‚
