ParticipantSo my 1st session on Sunday was around noon (the 2nd video above) & my 2nd session on Sunday was around 5pm – but she started quitting on me & going to the house. (Not going to bother posting the video.) She’s never done that, so I got pretty down & worried. 😨 It’s tough motivating her in my yard, in a trial (& usually class) it’s no problem – she’s all about it. I think it’s that there’s not a course setup & enough room to really run & fly over the equipment. (That & it’s also the potty yard, though I scoop the poop.) I also realized my sessions were just too long & repetitive for a sighthound, even one as motivated as her with agility – Sierra loves agility, it’s our thing.
So, I didn’t do anything yesterday. Today, I did some scent work practice, then this short agility session, then went for a short bike ride around the block. Turned out to be a pretty beautiful day! 💓 Other than my hair needing a hair tie, I’m thrilled with how the agility practice went today!! 😄
I started with excitement running to the jump, around the wing, & back to the jump. Then sent her around a wing & did a threadle. Then did some other things like pushes to the back side of the jump, with a couple more threadles in between the other stuff. Kept it really short with lots of enthusiasm & praise, did things in between the threadles instead of just doing threadle repetitions, & ended with a game of chase & tug! I even built up to some forward motion/distance off the jump on the last threadle & she still took the jump! 😍
It’s tough training a sighthound, I want to just work on something, but I have to be careful not to make her not want to do it. While I’m fine with repeating something to work on it – showing her it, practicing it, practicing more to really get it right, continue to practice to progress with it – that’s just not how I can do things with her. So I’ll have to keep that in mind as I continue this class. 😊 But what do you think about the 3 (?) threadles in this session? I brought the wing closer again because I wanted to make it so she could be successful. But, I did get that forward motion/distance too, so that’s good. I’ll keep doing short, successful, exciting sessions & probably progress more slowly, but in the long run it’ll be great!

ParticipantHere’s this morning, I did this before I saw your response. I did the wing because she didn’t seem very motivated from a sit, but I did have it too far away at first yesterday, bringing it in helped. Today I started with it where I left off yesterday, I moved it further again after a few times. Motivating her in the yard is proving harder than I thought it would be. It was also kinda hot for this kind of moving around in the sun. And like I said, repetition is hard with a sighthound, so can’t keep going & going to really fix things in one session. 🙁 But she did ok. I’ll try again before it gets dark today.
