    Hi Tracy,
First Update: I was able to do the raise your game challenges and the last pop out of the jumping course section indoors as our air quality is dangerous right now due to Canadian wildfires. Heavy smoke has drifted into our area. I was pleased that all 3 dogs had no quesions on any of these sequences including puppy Alonso who breezed through it. No one looked at the off course tunnel or jump. We had good connection. All 3 of my dogs run at different speeds and have different styles. It has felt great to be able to switch back and forth from one to the other 🙂
Looking forwards to doing more of the pop ups when it is safe to do so outdoors.

    Hi Tracy,
This is probably my last update for Camp 22. I haven’t been able to really do the coursework and all the pop outs this Summer, but got in all the skill sets and Zooms which I LOVED !!!! My husband is doing great after his total hip surgery and is back to work so now I can review more of the the coursework and popouts this Fall. And revisit the Zooms 🙂
I learned a lot from your last Zoom and was able to repeat it on different days. Buddy and my puppy understood the tunnel magic right away while I had to teach Mookie 🙂 But Mookie learned it quickly 🙂 I really had to teach Buddy the tunnel turn aways. Mookie struggled turning to his right as he is a lefty. With training Mookie is now better turning to his right. I plan to continue to revisit the tunnel turn away skills so my dogs have it solid. Buddy did the tunnel magic sequences nicely and with increased support he did the tunnel turn away sequences. Mookie did the tunnel turn away sequences nicely. But for the tunnel magic sequence 2 Mookie tended to knock the bar for the backside jump #8 and he needed me to “clap” to get his attention after jump #8 to get through the box to tunnel entrance #9
In his defense my jumps were probably closer than they should have been due to limited space. If I really supported jump #8 he kept the bar up but then I needed to turn his head to go throught the box.

On a different note, I signed up for Terrific Teeters Introduction for my puppy and looked through the course. It looks great for us. You come up with such wonderful training ideas 🙂 I plan to go through it slowly with him self study. And since my puppy is one class behind your live versions for puppies due to when I got him and his age, when will your MaxPup 3 Agility Foundation Course 047 become a Self Study ??? Please let me know. Thanks so much.
So thank you for a another great Summer Camp. I plan to keep taking your self study courses with my puppy. I love your structure and the course work keeps me on track. I hope some day you will meet him 🙂

    Hi Tracy,
I was able to do the Evolution Box work this week 🙂
    For Mookie:
Seq 1 I still needed to really pay attention to my arm position or I got a backside at jump 9.
    Second run was fine.
Seq 2 I needed to correct my timing of verbal cues not to knock jump 2 and 3.
    Second run was fine.
Seq 3 First run was perfect 🙂
Seq 4 I needed a strong tunnel cue 5 to 6 for Mookie
    Second run was good
    Buddy:
His layering skills are improving and I was able to layer the tunnel with him.
Buddy is slower and more thoughtful so we nailed all 4 seq first runs 🙂
On great note. I took Mookie to an outdoor trial for one day and we nailed both runs First run, Best run for a rare DQ for us 🙂 I took into consideration what I learned from the box work with him. I also really studied the courses and stuck to my plan. I was first both runs of the day so there was no other runs to watch.
The JWW course was perfect to practice rear crosses and we did a rear cross wrap like you had for the Zoom class last week and Mookie read it beautifully. So much fun 🙂
Wish I could have stayed more days at the trial but too much to do on the home front as yet.
I hope to work on the pop out sections of the courses next week.

    Hi Tracy,
Too busy of a Summer this year. I was not able to do anything from pkg 3 last week but will try to do it in the Fall. I was able to do the Zoom exercises, however. Love the Zoom. Since I am a rear cross queen these sequences were fun and easy for me and my 3 dogs. I have used tandem turn arms with Mookie and Buddy and they read them well. The puppy just needed a verbal for which way to wrap on a rear cross wrap. I learned a lot watching the small dogs during the Zoom as the puppy is jumping on low bars. He is the shortest dog I have ever had and runs fast and low to the ground 🙂 And as for the puppy, we completed MaxPup Foundations supersized edition and we are currently on week 7 of 036 Max Pup 2. He is 8 months old today. Which Self study do I do after Max pup2. We just miss the live classes due to when I got him 🙂 Do I do the Max Pup 032 Putting it together or wait for the Max pup 3 047 putting it together to become a self study ? Please Advise. Thanks Linda and her 3 BC boys

    Hi Tracy,
Thank you for another great Zoom event. I was able to do the Zoom sequences this week.
For the Warm ups Mookie could be sent from position 3 for the DW line at entrance of the tunnel as I expected. Seq 1 Again Mookie did it from position 3 DW line. For Seq 2 Mookie struggled turing to his left out of the tunnel. We have been working on his tunnel exit verbal cues and he seemed to be getting it but could not do this for seq 2. I found that if I held an arm up in the direction I wanted him to turn as he entered the tunnel, he turned in the correct direction coming out. He saw my arm from the back of his head 🙂 This was really a great exercise to test these skills and work on them. I will continue to work on his verbals. For Seq 3 Mookie had no trouble and could do a German Turn at jump 7 to 8 as well.
Buddy my lower drive dog could only send from position 1 of the DW line at the exit of the tunnel. He did Seq 1 at position one as well. He did a nice seq 2 with a blindcross to the tunnel and could not turn correctly with a rear cross. For Seq 3 Buddy needed a step in send to jump 4 and then he completed the sequence nicely. He is really not a verbal dog and really relies on my body position and cues. In his defense it was hot and he slows down in the heat. It seems nothing can slow Mookie or my pup down 🙂
Just for giggles I did the warm up with the puppy and the little guy was successful at position 2 the DW line in the center of the tunnel. I then worked the jump to turning into the tunnel and the tunnel exit to turn to the jump separately. We are still working on his tunnel exit verbal cues. He turns to his right perfectly and know the verbal well but needs work to his left and learning the left cue out of a tunnel. This has been great stuff for all 3 dogs:) And BTY I love the way you train the rear cross in Max Pup 2. And on great note the hubby continues to do well so that this weekend I will be able to sneak away to participate in a local Canine Dance Freestyle event and will be showing Mookie and the Puppy 🙂

    Hi Tracy,
Last week I was able to recreate the Zoom Sequences (LOVE the Zoom). Got to really practice tunnel exit cues as Mookie entered the tunnel and while in the tunnel. It worked well with Mookie who is verbal. Buddy relied more on my body position setting the rear cross at the tunnel exit and my arm cues for the layering. Both dogs did the 2 sequences nicely with the support they needed. My puppy was able to do the sequence 1 warm-ups. Worked on the wraps to right and left coming out of the tunnel. This little guy has no problem layering 🙂 This week I was able to get in the First Run Best Run. Mookie and I nailed sequence 1 and 3 first run. For sequence 2 he did a backside at jump 3. I must have held my out arm cue to layer too long. For the next run I kept my arms in control and he nailed it. It is still hard for me to control my arms guiding my huge powerful large strided dog through a course. He gets intense and then I tend to over handle :). I guess I need to go back to practicng running holding water bottles 🙂 Buddy did all 3 sequences but with extra support as he gets distracted in my yard. We live on a corner. Mookie cannot be distracted when doing agility anywhere 🙂 Both Mookie and Buddy know their threadle wraps well which you had covered in a previous online class I had taken with you 🙂 I have only been able to do the Zoom and the First Run Best Run in these past 2 weeks. My hubby continues to recover from his total hip surgery and I am grateful things have been going well for him. At least I know I can work on this in the Fall even after the class ends 🙂 Linda Mookie Buddy and Alonso who I am also trying to do MaxPup 2 with. I am looking forwards to your next Zoom and will try to watch live on Tuesday 🙂

    Update
    Hi Tracy,
I tried to fit in a lot this week.
So I tried the tunnel layering sequence first. All 3 dogs did sequence 1,2,& 3 in both directions nicely. I decided to try my puppy running around with him but he surprised me and layered the tunnel all the way around in both directions with the jumps locked in at 4 inches. He followed the path of jumps and my out commmand like has been doing this all his life at at full speed having a blast 🙂 Alonso is the coolest pup I have ever had 🙂
For sequence 5 & 6, Buddy could not do a layered threadle /rear on 4 from either direction but could layer the tunnel. Something we need to work on 🙂 Mookie when I was clear with my hand cues and verbals of what I wanted, could layer a threadle/ rear in either direction. I think my clear handling this time prevented a confusion and getting stuck in a vortex. Mookie needs very clear conisitent cues to the letter :). He has 40 rules I need to follow 🙂 But, he is fun to watch once we (I) get it together 🙂
I also fit in some of the pop outs . So glad you did this as my space is small and these are fun to work on. Both Mookie and Buddy nailed the short tunnel discrimination and the layering pop ups. So much fun !!!! I hope I can watch the Live Zoom next week but it depends how my husband is doing post op surgery. Glad you are recording these as they provide me with so much info listening to you explain and watching others 🙂

    Hi Tracy,
Thank you for fixing my access to Camp. I need Camp 🙂
You missed my post from last week above so I need to update.
I went to the trial this weekend running Mookie at 20 inch preferred in Excellent to see how he and I would do after a lay off of 5 months. I had been concerned about his taking backsides every where in training but at the trial with use of magnet fingers with my arm back he did fine. I only knocked one bar from a mistimed verabl cue. I also did a fabulous running blind and was so proud of myself. I went in with First Run Best Run and came out Qing 5 out of 6 runs. I can’t run him again at a trial until September due to my Husband having total hip surgery but I hope our team work continues. We actually had 2 Excellent DQs and earned our AXP and AJP.
Again, I love your Zoom events !!!!
Looking forwards to your next package of exercsies 🙂

    Update
    Hi Tracy,
I did the Skills Challenge Sequences last week with older dogs. I worked on my timing and tunnel exit cues. Buddy my 4 y/o has been out since May due to surgeries for a tooth tumor. And I haven’t run Mookie since Feb because he slipped on the ice at my house injuring his achilles tendon which thankfully has healed. It was good to work on my timing for verbal cues.
I loved the Zoom class from last night and I did the 3 sequences this am. Buddy needed support with my physical cue for the backsides but did well overall for all 3 sequences as he is slower and thoughtful. Mookie did well on sequence 1 & 2. I really had to watch him over every jump or he would knock bars which I had done previously. But, by the time we got to sequence 3 Mookie started anticipating backsides. It seemed like every where. I needed to verbally say jump so he would take the front of jumps. We are starting agility trialing in Preferred this weekend. I don’t know what to expect. We are only doing the regular JWW and Standard courses. Hopefully, he won’t do backsides every where. Should I say jump during this trial or just see what he gives me ? He is so impatient and impulsive and just wants to go as he hasn’t been training consistently. He has been exercising and is back in shape but that wasn’t enough for him it seems.
My puppy is doing well and we are on week 3 of Max Pup 2. My pup will bark at me to start but does not seem as impulsive and impatient as Mookie. 🙂
So glad I can do Camp in my backyard and sharpen my handling skills.

    Hi Bobbie,
I have also been taking what I learned to other places.
Buddy had been afraid of going to Parks for walks and now seems more confident and no longer alert barks at men passing him within 3 feet. He is a joy to walk now.
Today I dared to try to take him in Lowes. I prepped him with the snuffle mat outside the store and shadow handling. Lo and behold Buddy went through the sliding doors and into the store. He was in alert mode but not over threshold. I let him take things in. He did not alert bark at anyone and anything and had awareness to eat treats and to sit and lie down on command which is a sign to me that he was still okay. If flooded he does not respond to anything. He walked with me cautiously but was holding it together nicely. I took him out after 15 minutes as I did not want to push him.
This was incredible for him. I never thought that he would even go through the sliding doors. He was relieved to be outside when done but I think he was okay after this expereince.
How often should I try places like stores that allow dogs to get him use to different environments.
I am just thrilled with his progress. Should I be doing things differently when in stores ???
    Please let me know.
    Thank you.

    Last Update 🙁
    Hi Tracy,
For the Independent backside exercise this week both boys understood it and did well. I am very pleased.
The threadle exercises went smoothly for Mookie but Buddy needed extra connection from me.
For the the threadle discriminatiom, pinwheel and get out arm Mookie read it easily and reliably while again Buddy needed extra focus from me but still did them well.
As for the courses at my trial this past weekend, Mookie and I had the skills but a bar came down in each run except for Fast 🙂 One bar was becasue I talked, the other was a bar coming out of a tunnel, and 2 bars were from extreme slicing situations. The judges are really making the angles of the jumps severe which is hard for a fast dog like Mookie.
Should I be setting up jumps in severe angles and practicing these when I can ???
As for Buddy who is 20 seconds slower then Mookie on a course he did well and got his first Excellent Standard Leg with a woman judge. Only 3 dogs qualified in his class due to the extreme angles. In jumpers Buddy wanted to visit the male judge to check him out and went overtime. We are working on this. At least he did not try to avoid the man as he has done in the past.
So, this will probably be my last course with you until Summer Camp 2022 due to not being able to practice due to the weather.
There is a very slight chance of a puppy in my stars at the end of Feb.
I will be asking you what to sign up for if this happens as your Max puppy class will be over by then.
Have a Good Thanksgiving, Happy Holidays and I wish you a Happy New Year!!!!!

    Hi Bobbie,
Buddy is not a toy dog. He will tug but not sustained.
He is a definite food dog and you cannot take food in the ring for any agility venue.
I have practiced the counter-conditioning & desensitization techniques everywhere including at trials.
Buddy didn’t react to the male judge trigger by avoiding him as he had done in his recent past, he actually wanted to go to see him up close to check him out. This behavior with a male judge was new for Buddy. He did not show fear but curiosity.
Should I just keep Buddy in standard runs or continue to try JWW with a male judge ??
    Please let me know.
His next trial won’t be until next year now. I will be bringing him to a huge venue in 2 weeks but just to walk around and not show as I feel it would be too much for him at this point. We will be practicing everything learned from this course there, however.

    Update # 2
    Hi Bobbie,
I have been doing the mat exercise and the snuffle mat with Buddy daily.
Walking him at parks he can now walk within 3 feet of a strange man on the same path and passes by without alerting or barking.
He really took to the snuffle mat. So I took it on the road to an agility trial for a one day try.
He snuffled there happily. He did look around like a swivel head at first in the environment but seemed to relax. He did not bark at men in his view of which there were alot at this trial just walking around. He did go to his human friends for loving before he ran and did the best ever. The judge was a woman who took a step back releasing pressure when he was on the contacts. Usually judges walk towards him and he freezes. He felt super relaxed and did a good job with selective focus on his agility. However, when we went into the jumpers ring with a man, he lost focus then slowly walked toward the male judge wanting to check him out. I called him to come to me which he did. I was able to get his focus back to run past the male judge jumping jumps in his path and he stayed on his line and we finished the run. Overtime but successful.
My question to you. Buddy seems more at ease in the standard ring where he can assess the environment as we stop and go. Should I just leave him in standard for now? He seems to feel he must watch the judge at all times in jumpers. Also he is better with woman judges. Should I just stick to runs with women judges for now.? Should I put him in standard with a male judge and if he gets uncomfortable end the run sooner by having an exit plan of jumps out the door not just stopping and walking off. Buddy is showing progress with his triggers (men) and is now in a phase of wanting to smell them to see if they are safe. I have taught him to touch someones hand held out and then he is treated. He will do this with strangers now including men. I am doing agility strickly as a rehab tool to get him use to people in the world. He wants to be with me so I want to be able to take him in my world.
    Thank you for your input.

    Update Week 3
    Hi Tracy,
Hope you had a great time this past Saturday showing 🙂
I could only do this week’s activities limitedly due to me having dental surgery.
    1) Backwards starts: Both of my boys responded reliably to a break hand start
which is my physical cue for a wrap.
    2) Obstructed running paths: I had fun with this.
I really need to use verbal cues and and upper body to override motion to turn Mookie away from a tunnel in his path. Buddy will just follow my motion as I am usually running with him or ahead of him while Mookie shoots by me. I have been afraid of causing knocked bars with my verbal cue timing calling Mookie off and directing him and sometimes I can’t get the words out fast enough. It has been a tough balance for me running Mookie. I am probably holding my breath when I run Mookie as he is intense.
Both dogs did well with the exercises and I was able to keep Mookie out of wrong course tunnels.
    3) Switch Aways : I was pleasantly surprised as I thought this would be difficult.
But, Mookie only needed my opposite arm cue to turn away and take the next obstacle in his path in either directly reliably. Mookie already knows this 🙂 Mookie uses peripheral vision and can read my arm position and which arm I am using in an instant. Buddy needed both a verbal cue and an opposite arm cue to switch away reliably. Buddy is slower so I can get verbals out of my mouth for him.
I am going to a trial this coming weekend so may not get to practice week 4. When is the last day we can e-mail you for about week 4 ??
    Thanks
    Linda, Mookie, and Buddy
