We got more snow last night….so still stuck inside….and the space was very tight for the serpentine & threadle jump exercise. Definitely looking forward to having more space!!! Here’s a bunch of failures for the perp. He almost seemed to have a better grasp on the threadle.

Thanks in advance for the help!!!

    Hi Tracy-

Here is our first attempt at Find my Face….this could be extremely helpful given Ringo’s propensity to get over the top!!!

We also had a little time to work on barrels and spins and post turns. We had a lot of fun on those!!!

    Good Morning!

Here is a little tunnel versus close video from this morning. He needed a couple breaks to get his brain back in his skull….and I wish I had more room to get more distance….but a couple little light bulb moments in there.

    Have a great day!!!

Thanks Tracy! I have been working on a ‘go to place’ cue….so the Cato board might be a portable place! Good idea!!

Looking at the videos and seeing the correlation of frustration and jumping makes a lot of sense! I tried to redo the decel exercise after teaching at the barn. Watching how late I am in stopping (he is already there when I FINALLY stopped in the early ones!) and he is jumping on me….I might have gotten a little better towards the end and he isn’t jumping on me as much. I seem to really suck at teaching decel…especially when I feel like the pillsbury dough boy with all the layers! LOL!

He really is a good boy…just a bit on the wild side!

Here was some of our training from tonight…Threadle Wrap, Threadle Slice, Backside Slice and some Boxwork for the A-Frame. I tried to be 2 inches ahead with the magic cookie hand for the threadle wrap but watching the video it looks kind of flailing!

On the Threadle Slice and the backside slice, he looks like he might need the other stantion to tuck in to go over the jump bump. What do you think?

    Thanks!!1

    Tracy-

Thanks for your confirmation of what I was feeling in my gut!!!

The spray bottle came out when we had a substitute instructor at U-Dog….and I had an extra working spot that I grabbed for Ringo. We were teaching him the tire…which he was perfect with on its own….but he passed by it when I tried to put it into sequence…so I called him back to start again and he started doing his over aroused jumping. After we overcame that craziness….we did a short tunnel-tunnel-jump-jump-jump which he loved but when we repeated it, he got over the top aroused and was jumpy.

I will continue without the spray bottle and try to create more highly rewarded four feet on the ground behaviors. I frequently ask him to come into the middle so I can reward him there and massage his temples to help him relax….but I think I need to work on some remote sits & downs so he doesn’t jump on other people.

So much more to add to the training list!!! LOL!

    Thanks again!

I thought I had sent you a post with two questions….but it looks like it got lost. Here’s the quick version:

    1) would using a spray bottle to discourage Ringo’s jumping be a bad thing?

    2) we are in a “positive” obedience class and the instructor was teaching leave it in the first class. During the exercise, I played up & down with Ringo to have his full attention and made it thru the labyrinth of food bowls on the ground without having to cue a leave it or without having to do a collar pop. The instructor said nice attention but you didn’t teach him the leave it cue. Part of me thinks “leave it” is old fashion and not a good thing to teach….and that I would prefer to teach attention on me. Am I in the wrong obedience class?

I know I went MIA for a few weeks here….travel and family and crappy weather are my excuses. I am stuck up north until mid-February and this weather is limiting my options!

Here are a couple little things I did inside. Working on the release options and a little on the lap & tandem turns. I worked on the threadle wrap exercise with Artie because we struggle with those….so now that I had a practice run, I will brave working it with Ringo! LOL!

Happy New Year! Hope you made it home from SC. I heard everyone loved working with you down there!! Wish I could have been there for so many reasons! LOL!

It is weird…it shows and plays for me but not when I tried to access from my phone. I tried reloading so here is a new link. I am in a dead zone for signal and that might be impacting the load to YouTube.

    Fingers crossed this one works!

Here is a little work with two barrels and he jumped up on the picnic table bench….so I just went along but he seems a lot more balanced on it!

I was on the wrong side for the turn and burn at the end but he seemed pretty focused on the game (and not jumping up on me – Yeah! Maybe the 30 minute run on the beach took the edge off him! LOL!)

Thanks again and it was SO FUN to do Puppy Brain Camp with you & Bobbie!!!

I finally got a chance to try to catch up on a few of our homework. I forgot the “ready” in the send back to prop…so we still struggled with this (again!)

Decel adding in the turn…it seems to help.

    Send back to prop:

    Turn & Burn take 1:

We have done some plank work at home but I don’t have a plank with me. I tried to use a picnic bench but I think it was really tough for Ringo but he did seem to improve after a few turns. He was a good boy for trying!!!

Today is a travel day to get south for Puppy Brain Camp!!! Yeah!!

We went back to our private field and did some of the next steps on the decel game and prop games. I don’t have a manners minder with me but will pick that up in a couple weeks when I am back in NJ. But I used a much more visible treat this time to help with timing….unfortunately this took some time for him to chew.

I don’t think he has enough understanding of the backwards sends….so I struggled with counter motion parts. You can probably fast forward thru these sections at the end…we kept trying. Also, for some reason when he is coming up from behind me on the right he wants to tuck into the middle. Oops! I guess I need more balance! Sorry for the longer video!

    Prop Games:

We did the stealth bowl and cone game before we packed up.

Here are some updated attempts at the send to prop, race ya and decel. I was proud that he worked with the lake not too far away!!! But his arousal was getting pretty high when we got to the decel game. I thought about doing some pattern games to try to put his brain back in his head….but figured it would be better to start fresh tomorrow. I definitely need to stop the body slamming & jumping! Thanks in advance for saving me! LOL!

Thanks again…and lots of next steps on those!!! I will digest and see if I can get some training time in tomorrow before I move to the state park….not sure what type of space I will have there….and we are camping lakeside which could be too much for his brain! LOL!

We did a few race ya to the toy…he smoked me every time!!!! LOL!!!! I don’t have a chance!

Is this a game I should play frequently with him? It seems like there would be benefit in that!!

Thanks Tracy for the most excellent feedback! We snuck out for a few second step attempts while the trial was going on….so Artie was up in the arena and there wasn’t any sideline barking! LOL!

Here is our attempt at next steps on the prop. I am such a creature of habit and kept saying “yes” and “get it.” I didn’t realize I was doing that until I watched the video…sorry! I am not sure that he really understands this one. I also think I went too long as he seems to be losing his focus.

    Ringo send to Prop:

Next we tried the decal exercise…..this needs a lot of work!!! Especially with his long body! He kept overshooting my treat hand. He was slightly better at applying the brakes when it was a toy…but still struggled. I didn’t attempt to add in the turn because I think he needs more of these before we add that in.

    Ringo decal take 1:

Then we moved on to the beginning of teaching a blind cross since it seemed to leverage some of the same set up aspects as the decal training.

    Ringo’s first blind crosses:

We ended today’s training with the next steps on the two bowl game.
