BANG GAMEForget all the nice things I said about him. He just peed on the bed.

ParticipantHi! I am sorry you did not get to run Contraband like you had planned last weekend. That must have been hard!
Axel & I have done a few things. I made things a bit easier on this backside we haven’t worked on. He has suddenly become more fun so that lights a fire under me.
No idea why I am throwing my arm in the air on these pinwheels. Just need it low & back, right?
This bang sessions was a little longer than videod. He has been struggling with the movement for a while, but suddenly, yesterday, it was no big deal.
Whoops. I’ll add that below when I get it uploaded. What do you think about training him to lie down with front feet on this target, then moving that to the end of the teeter to get him going to the end?
Other things are coming along for him, too. He is taking a reactivity class that is almost the same protocols as your ‘Under pressure’ zoom class. Working very well for me to be working our way through the class with other dogs while getting a good understanding from your class!
Thank you!

ParticipantAxel was a little less enthusiastic here than he has been. I think going longer before reward than the lazy pinwheel game. Should I go back to more reward for a couple of sessions? We have also been using the BEST treats in the whole world for the moving end of the teeter so he wants to go over there.
Thank you!

ParticipantOh, PS, note him bringing that toy back to play with me. That bathroom training is transferring over!

ParticipantHi there. Here we are one step sending.i am learning to have all my mechanics & props ready for him! You can’t fake him out like the Border collies if you are not totally prepared.
Linda Cummings
ParticipantAre we still going?!
The thing I am realizing about Axel is that the mechanics have to be right on. I have to have the right setup, toys & treats ready to go. It even helps if the camera is on. The BC are easy to fool for a moment of you forgot something. The other day the ball on his tug toy fell apart & I lost him just grabbing the pieces.
This was an experiment since he does not want to go back to his crate although that is much better with shaping it & being sure he has super-dooper stuff in there that no one else has. And lassoing him with the slip leash instead of taking the collar. So after a short back & forth on his RC board for treats we moved to the wings & tunnel. Not real speedy but he was thinking.
I am thinking about putting him in Max 3 instead of 2. Seems like he needs new stuff to do. We are lacking in our ‘stay’ yet but just need to light a fire under myself.
Thanks!Linda Cummings
ParticipantIt’s a miracle! Both short sessions today went well! Had the right toy, the right treats (too high value & he can’t think & doesn’t want to play again),
He didn’t have to pee, wasn’t too full or too hungry AND I didn’t touch his collar.
I have got to get going on our stay.
LindaLinda Cummings
ParticipantI will try tossing a treat and running away with the toy today to see if I get some enthusiasm. or two toy game with a 2 minute timer. We do collar grabs when we practice recalls. Then I either just praise & let him go or have really good treats while I hold the collar, then let him go back to sniffing. His annual vet appointment is coming up & I will do blood work.
If I use food I need to remember to make the food exciting – like you have said before.
Thank you!

ParticipantHi! I went dark for a bit due to various things, but looks like we are still going.
Axel has not had much enthusiasm lately & I thought maybe too much obedience / manners class & not enough toy and run! So this happens? Argghh..
Please help!
LindaLinda Cummings
ParticipantWe will do the longer sequence another time. She had had enough. We did a lot of playing, buying the toy & switching toys as well.

ParticipantHe sure makes me think! Ugghhh. I got him because I wanted to train something else beside a Border Collie & wasn’t sure I wanted to go full terrier. (my first agility dog was a Jack Russell – a ton of fun) And I wanted a small dog. I am really not sure how much agility he will do. The east – west front feet bother me more than I thought they would. I see them used in Europe, but their courses are more open.
So here we are trying to bear every thing in mind – better, I think.
Thank you.

ParticipantPS – as far as the rest of Axel’s life, he gets a good run in the pastures every couple of days to chase rabbits & sniff around. Sometimes with Lizzie, sometimes not. He is either in an xpen or tied to a chair usually in the house since he started to mark in the house. Food puzzles, sniffy mats & chewies provided. Not sure if I can keep a male wrap on him or not, but plan to try.

ParticipantGood morning.
Axel is such a puzzle for me. I got him a larger crate, put it in a different spot with fresh bedding, & got a few things to chew. I think he like have a choice of two things in there. I also use his leash to start out & end, then happily go to crate on leash.
Here is another training session gone weird. Should I have just stopped when I saw how focused he was on the toy, treated him & finished?
He was underwhelmed here, too. Maybe just a bad day.
LindaLinda Cummings
ParticipantThank you.
Do you just use verbal directionals here? Where do you use/teach the word ‘jump’? I am going to work through Hoke’s materials from last winter on tunnel-jump discriminations and found that Liz does not know the word jump. She has learned her wrap verbals well and I can send a good distance with those since she understands the words. But not so much to jumps with soft turns….
LindaLinda Cummings
ParticipantGreat! Thank you.
But there’s some serious arm flinging going on with this one. None of us were at our best because of the cold weather – warmer now at -11 then it has been for days. And the freaking mice in there were battling us for our treats. What an awful couple of days!
Lizzie is as honest as she can be though. We are still struggling with her going off with the toy. On better days than today, though, she will come back & ‘get ready’ and bring the toy with her. Progress, I guess. I am doing the Max Pup toys games with her still.
Thanks for looking.
