ParticipantHello. You are right, of course. I ran in the pill bug & she liked that better. She does not want to come in to me although that is getting better. I will do the bugs again with food.
So here are a couple of play videos. In this one with the pill bugs she does come back to re-start. I think I should do another rep of whatever game we are playing, play with the toy & be done. Her enthusiasm just dwindles. What should I do?
This one I did today & I had forgotten the long toy didn’t work very well – it used to.
Please help!

ParticipantGreat feedback. I will for sure do some simple training with the toy on the floor & in my hand. I think he will do good with toy on floor. We usual our it in the window sill & he knows it’s there.
I do use the same verbal for backside slice & wrap. I am running out of words! I was thinking ‘wrap’ but winder if it’s too like ‘back’
Thanks so much.

ParticipantHi there.
You do make sense on when to use what verbal on the jump. I forget to make the verbal out loud part of my walk through. This first video – handler path to the backside jump & path to tunnel seem the same to me & it’s only decel that seems to work, correct? Also, I guess I think if I persist with the toy in my hand & learn to be consistent with my ‘bite’ verbal, he will eventually stop focusing on the toy in my hand. What do you think?
I forgot to layer the tunnel in this work with the rear cross past the tunnel. Very happy with as much as we got though.
The combo was way fun. I did the wrap to the backside a little wonky. I couldn’t remember how you had done it in the video. We worked through thissuccessfully once at 8” so I put the bars at 16”. He has been working hard at his jump program & it seems to pay off.
I like this 3 week skill format. The sequences were a ton of fun for the boy that wanted to run fast & be rewarded a lot. I have been using the reset cookie for both dogs & getting a great response.
I would listen in to a zoom on Thursday.
Thank you! Look forward to your feedback on all!

ParticipantHi!
These are fun exercises. They are boosting my confidence.
I had a hard time flipping this to the other side & started out with front crosses for some reason. I even struggled to set it up flipped! And let connection go towards the end & got the tunnel when I wanted jump.
Let me know your thoughts. Thank you!

ParticipantGood morning!
I did a bit more of the verbal. This was the entire session since I wanted it to be successful. We have done enough collar restraint that he starts to shout when I hold him & give the verbal.
Here is our combo work. This was fun. I forget the jump verbal! Which defeats the purpose. 😅

ParticipantThank you. In earlier reps, she really drifted on the parallel path & that would also be lack of connection.

The vet instructions actually said she could return to normal in a couple of days! Geez. She runs so hard when she goes out to feed! I am lasering her incision, too, & generally the whole area for internal healing.
Last night’s class looked really fun! See you in a few weeks for jump-tunnel discrimination for Hoke.

ParticipantGood morning.
The coming in for the serp has progressed nicely with a few sessions of throwing balls for it then using the MM. No video! Here is our latest Rocking Horse.
Lizzie had her spay surgery yesterday so is out for the duration although I will follow the last lesson. If it is a totally new concept for me, I will have Hoke do it with me. Liz will be all ready to start back slowly by the time you start Pup 2. We are going to follow a spay rehab program.
Thank you!

ParticipantThank you. Your are brilliant as always. I’ll let you know how the coming in to me works.

ParticipantGood morning,
First a general thought: I struggle with proofing all the skills that are new to me in threadles. I have had several classes for introducing the concepts and feel pretty comfortable there. But then I fail to execute since the skills are not trained well enough or proofed well enough. I set up things for Hoke on my own to try and get there, but I think I try to go from 0 to 60 without all the steps in between. Do you have something I can find or do you have something up your sleeve that would help? Thanks! So, Lizzie & I did a few things. The wrap barrel games are way fun! I will start to step back from the barrel. (see above 0 to 60!). Maybe if I put the leash out there for my visual I can do it in small steps.
I think we struggle with the serp game because its another game where she has to come in to me. She does not want to come in to me. I don’t like the lack of interest at all. You can see she goes around to get the toy. I wonder if freshing up the nose touch would help or maybe I should roll a ball for her when she come in. She really likes her balls.
And we dialed in our game, too. I had forgotten what you have said about getting the dog to tug in closer until we were doing this game so tried that at the end & she was ok with it. I can’t have her jump on me because of the herding. That says something to my herding teacher that I don’t want her to think. Overall I am so happy with her tug play since it had to be built in 10 second intervals at first!
Let me know what you think! Thank you!

ParticipantWhoops. Did not watch the video all the way to the end where it looks like you address this very issue! I’ll do that now.

ParticipantGood morning.
I have a question or concern, I guess, about the ‘strike a pose’ for serps & threadles. I have trained Hoke with the threadle arm across the body because I am concerned that the ‘pose’ with out the arm will be confused with the serp. It seems like you pretty much have to be at the right place to cue the threadle without the outside arm. It looks really cool that way and it much easier to keep moving if you don’t have arm across body. How do I make it clear which I want? Particularly concerned about threadles that are two jumps side by side like we see in Premier. It seems like you have to keep moving across the bar with side by side threadles.
Thanks!

ParticipantWe did a couple of things.
I feel pretty comfortable with our parallel path exercise but struggle with the mechanics of the get out & the landing side serpy thing.
I will watch serpy thing lesson again & try again tomorrow.
We struggled with the coming in & turning away for the rear cross & did not do better with the new rear cross game since she is just spinning towards me. so we made up our own based food toss game only with balls.

Interestingly stuff on the arousal cycle. I am glad I went with my intuition with Hoke & his struggle to give back the toy. I tried a few of the things people suggest to improve that but I could see it was just making him sad. So he shreds until we line up again & then spits the toy out. He destroys tug toys but has soft toys that he carries in his mouth when he is not working. Or he needs a glove to carry. I think we are better off not to pick that battle.
Let me know how to fix mechanics, please!
LindaLinda Cummings
ParticipantYes, I can do the treat toss for the box & mat. That worked really well for the foot target & parallel path stuff we register today. Someone recycled my original box! I will look out something better.
I would like to be able to work with the toy in my hand so I will try to keep it in one hand, but I will start to use the verbal. I have been trying to remember to say ‘get it’, but I like having a different word for come in to me for it.
More fun stuff to come.
