ParticipantSo, I kinda see a failure to support obstacles here. Maybe I should not have rewarded the downed bar I the second rep, but clearly I caused it & toy in my hand did not help.
The bars are at 12”. I would have thought he would read that wrap with my decel there. Then way early take off on the next jump. We are doing a jump class with a jumping guru so hopefully will see improvement in skills.

ParticipantHi!
I just happened to set up my camera this way, but I got to see clearly the head check on the first rep. So I drove harder the second rep.
Then this time the stride forward out of the tunnel the first time.
Now I see i should have gone back to exercise 1 to see if i had real understanding.

ParticipantI like this. Seems obvious now you’ve said it. 😉

ParticipantDisregard that video. I already showed you that one. Trying to upload the correct ones.

ParticipantHi!
We worked on our pinwheel jump proofing & it’s going very well. We still have bars on the blinds, but are keeping bars low. And, of course, all the work suggested by Lesley Edie continues. We did our zigzag with the reward out of my hand. He is getting the hang of it, but when I straighten, he goes back to sort of skipping through it. I am guessing he may be confusing it with weaves. We are using 3’ bars as you suggested.
I had him in novice JWW last weekend at 16”. His jumping has improved a ton already. I wish I had video. He was putting in the extra strides where needed. The course had three changes of side, the first two I did with rears since we have to do more motion proofing so I did not run hard, but did get a very nice send out to a corner jump so I could do a landing side front cross.
Wish I could have come to camp. Have fun!

ParticipantGreat! a plan. I will start today.
In his jump work that calls for a jump with height, like a grid of three 8″ jumps, spaced 5 1/2′ for him, with a 4th jump at a distance, he is jumping 20″. His sit jumps, he is at 18″. His zigzag is 4″. I am moving ahead, along side & behind on the grids.
Motion is a thing with him, though. I spent much of my time behind him in our running contact work so he would stop looking at me, that now I see he is really affected by my being ahead either stationary or moving. I have him with the low AF for the next several sessions and have started by standing out past the AF and then walking from about half way. I am not sure how else to add motion with jumping other than the pinwheel & tunnel exercise. His zigzag is better. I doubled up the wings & changed to 3′ bars.

ParticipantI just reviewed your last comments & I am going to take a wild guess that my cues are late. The blinds esp. on the pinwheel. Which gets me to ‘I can’t get there in time’, which leads into someplace along here I need to leave earlier do I can get there.
I am going to pull up side by side of the lower jump height & the 18” on Coaches Eye.

ParticipantHi there.
Here is more work on keeping up bars during handling. I started out at 8” or 12” and he seemed to understand. Then I went to 18” & you can see him drop his rear end over the bars. Do I need to revisit this and gradually move up those bars over several sessions? One session? We continue diligence in our exercise & jumping program. Out zigzag exercise was much more correct after following your feedback about the 3’ bars. I need to see some video of that & will send to you.

ParticipantIs this the best way to work through his understanding of this wrap jump? How do I continue to build understanding? So much to do!! Do you just have a mental check list – like warm up, do a few jump wraps, work a little baby level threadles?

ParticipantHi there.
Couple of questions for you.
On the first two sequences, with dog on right, I am pulling to have him make the left turn. Too much? Should I maybe be running a straighter line & reach across with my left arm if I need? These jumps are at 18”. We are diligently working our way through strengthening exercises & jump exercise from Dr Eide. I think he is jumping much stronger from his rear end. Is this the way to handle knocked bars right now? I am not withholding reward. Just having him do over. (On my first attempt, I threw that reward so quick & hard, it caused it to come down, I think.)

ParticipantThanks! I had trouble getting a ‘go on’ to the wing, so will backtrack a bit without the plank involved and build more value & then add the plank back. That kind of surprised me.
Having a lot of trouble working him with the toy in my hand as all focus is on me and the toy. I don’t remember how I got past that with other dogs! Ideas there?
Thanks.

ParticipantP.S. wing AFTER the ramp. Is that a jump bump in the grass? Seems like that would facilitate going to the wing which might be needed at first.

ParticipantHi! I hope you are still there! I think we are getting someplace. You think?
I will add a wing wrap for the approach. Thanks.

ParticipantStill plugging away. This is better I think. I will continue to work with MM set at sharper angles. I tried a toy out in a cooler but still getting a head check.
Am I ready to go on a complete DW? Have not decided if I will go for running DW or just AF. (Leaning to stopped DW) Is it time to go to AF? Just watched the AF video. How is that target attached?
