ParticipantIs he learning to trot his DW?
Linda Cummings
ParticipantHi! We are back.
Yesterday’s go was a bit better, but a good snapshot of where we are.
I did move the MM out further. I am getting two feet, one front – one rear as he trots through the box. I am having a nightmare that I will have a trotting DW. So I switched to a toy. Of course I am getting a head check for the toy.
Please help!

ParticipantHi. Good to know we have a few more days. Hopefully I can do one more video. We are at an awkward spot right now. I have worked straight to the box, then MM straight ahead, to right & to left. It went well. Then I put it on the plank. We are all over the map. He wants to trot the plank & do the target like cavvelitti. If I play with him to get him excited, he wants to jump the box. I have made this whole thing very boring! The last thing I want is him trotting the DW!
Out last session was about 1/2 good rear foot hits, although feet together, 1/4 trotting through the box & getting on front & one rear, & 1/4 total misses. I’ll post it here. Painful to watch. Sorry! What should I do now?
If you offer a class for RC, Part 2, I would take it.

ParticipantI just took a look at adding the plank exercise. I am getting rear feet together as a bounce, not separate. I’ll see what I get with adding a wing and getting a bit of speed…

ParticipantHello! We are still plugging away! Boy stubbed his toe so I gave him some time off.
How does this look for beginning distractions?I just looked at adding the wing and that looks like fun. With the MM out, I have trouble getting much more than a trot out of him, which gets me a trot through the target. So I think the wings will add some excitement for him. As you can see, I am still using the inverted target. I see that is what you are using in your video. Should I be working all these steps with just the small mat?
Most important: IS THERE A PART TWO TO THIS?!
Thank you.

ParticipantToo funny. Just looked at the last game in lesson two & see you emphasize the importance of the straight exit – the very thing I wanted to gloss over. I can see I am going to get a run, not a trot. That will be tricky – playing enough to get the run, without too much excitement so he can still think. Probably better get out on the dirt with my green mat.

ParticipantHello. Overall it is going well, I think. I am finding it helpful when increasing the difficulty to go back to the inverted target. He seems to think that is fun. Surprised that he doesn’t drive the target against my motion. Probably go back to the inverted like I just said. Any other ideas there?
I had a terrible time going away & coming back to me & did a very s….ty job clicking all guys of stuff, particularly trotting over it & missing on a diagonal (like right front; left rear.
Pleased with how he did with the Matt on the DW.
I haven’t looked at what is next but feel like I can move on as long as I revisit the weakness of going & coming in a straight line. You think?

ParticipantGood morning,
Work continues. Feeling confident with his inverted target cut lower & then lower again.
Then I tried to cut a corner (b/c I am telling myself I should be further along) and went to the mat with a poor success rate. Should I do a session progressing quickly (if successful) with my 2 sizes of inverted, then go to my elevated? After watching my video, I can see I should have been standing & moving further away with the inverted.
Also, I have worked on a 2o2o for our teeter & it was going well with proofing. We hadn’t been on it in weeks but did yesterday & he doesn’t stop. I can see he is confusing the two. Should I work both on a regular basis in separate sessions? I do want a stopped teeter & May still go stopped DW & just use running for AF. I figured I would make that decision as we progress. What do you think? Thanks!!

ParticipantI just watched some of lesson two & can see it would be a good idea to trim down the sides of my inverted box. Will do that.

ParticipantIs this more what we want? Really liking the inverted target.
Here is a large elevated target.
And a smaller elevated. Brought the excitement level down a bit since this our first go after building up the inverted target.
Thanks!

ParticipantAha, great examples by classmates! Another session later today.

ParticipantI stayed with just the elevated target for a bit longer. I thought it went pretty well until I watched the video in slow motion. In trying to address his looking at me as much, I out the MM on one side & a closed container on the other side at first. Just terrible mechanics on my part clicking the wrong button. Sometimes I got the MM by mistake, sometime I clicked for 3 feet, aarghh
I think just simplify with the back & forth on elevated target with just the MM and ONE thing in my hand. I will look at classmates but here is some video. What do you think?

ParticipantHello,
After more work with the elevated target, we went to the go & comeback exercise. This was our second work. I tries toy reward first but you can see our accuracy went to heck.
So we went back to food. I would like more drive to this so did it with some collar grabs. Good enough?
I tend to linger on the pieces of things & take forever to get something trained.
Here is our feet in a box.
I see the next lesson is out. Hoke was neutered a couple of days ago & since vet had to go up after his nuts, he has a bit more recovery time.
Thanks! Linda

ParticipantGood morning. Here is our second work on the larger elevated thing.
I went to a smaller object & got him searching around for 2o2o position. I wasn’t sure how to handle that so just tried to call him in to the nose touch & get the motion going. I clicked a few times for 3 feet instead of four! After the rear foot targeting thing,I thought I should just adjust a bit & reward the 3 foot anyway….
What do you think? Thanks!
