ParticipantHave you ever thought about a US Open prep class? ššš

ParticipantCan I move obstacles further apart?

ParticipantAgain, me mechanics suck. He seems to like it when I run and only use my arms occasionally. Iām trying for better connection, toy under my shirt is helping both of us but I still have a long way to go to not suck. Heās being a good boy, likes verbals I believe.

ParticipantExperimented with reward. I cannot drive an hour, sometimes two, one way and spend the entire time getting him to tug when I rent time. He wanted nothing to do with tugging so Iām sorry but I had to try other things and tried to keep him engaged. My mechanics with a toy suck, so I was trying new things there as well. He was a good boy and let me try different things. I also back chained to help him a bit. Maybe I shouldnāt have, Im sure it was my handling, but it seemed to help him.
I had to quit putting the toy in my hand, he wanted to watch it. Again, my mechanics with the toy suck but he is helping me and we are figuring it out.

ParticipantTeeter tip.

ParticipantTeeter backing up. I moved the treat holder to the top as you requested and heās kind of sliding on it at first but trying to back up with all four. Should I put him on the travel plank that doesnāt have the treat plate?

ParticipantThank you!

ParticipantOkay, so I went back out with the tug we play with every morning and he was great. Decided to get the iPad and tripod. Took them out and he wouldnāt play, saw the tug, no food, just sat under the tripod. The video is what I tried to get him engaged. If you think I should continue this way with the tug, I will (and I promise, I donāt give up, I just get discouraged trying to find what works with him, he will quit on me and I want the game to always be fun).

ParticipantOkay, I will try these things. I really hope Iām not giving up, sure doesnāt feel like it, just trying to figure out how to keep him engaged and right now thatās food, food, and more food. I had these struggles with the other two, food was the only thing that worked . . . 4 years later I can use a tug toy with them if I never bring out the food, which is probably why I default to food, lol, it worked, ugh.
Not sure what to do about the teeter. My yard is on such a slope, I really have to work hard to put things where they will work, I am the only one to move equipment (hence why the dog walk isnāt up yet), and with my neck and back, one wrong move away from another surgery, I tend to leave equipment in one place all summer. Iām open to suggestions. If I turn the tunnel and jumps and run the other way the incline is really bad. Maybe I can put the teeter on its side?
I am going back out tonight with his favorite tug toy and play first to get him really amped then move to equipment. I may also try the frisbee, he loves to chase it, but again, Iām not involved so that wonāt work.
So I am not supposed to ever throw his reward / toy? It always needs to stay attached to me??? What do I do when Iām trying to get him to drive forward? Can I throw it then or pre place and race him??? I just watch everyone throwing toys, lotus balls so Iām soooo confused (not surprising).
I know once I find his high value āsomethingā it will help. Iām just trying everything right now to figure out what that is.
What about a treat pouch??? What are your thoughts on those? I know I canāt throw one because the reward isnāt immediate, but for something to drag and chase and I open?
Iām sorry to be such a pain. . . I will try not to bug you a lot, but I want to find something he gets excited for.
Lee Tansock
ParticipantUgh, my autocorrect. I will take a toy and video so you can see. I worry that Iām not filling his reward bank with a toy, but am probably wrong. You can tell me.
Lee Tansock
ParticipantWe went back out (itās pretty hot here) using the lotus ball, and tried this sequence a couple of times, throwing and racing him to the ball. I increased my hard connection, went better. We will go out again later tonight when cooler and I will take Antony and video so you can see.
Lee Tansock
ParticipantSo, Iām trying not to have food on me or in my hands, am I confused, wasnāt I supposed to stop doing this? Can I not pre-place a reward? I went out with just a toy (after doing some high value teeter work) the other night and he would not work at all, he kept going back to the teeter.
Iām super discouraged, it seems everything Iām doing is wrong. I try a toy and he wonāt work, I try pre-placing and itās not motivating enough. I canāt have food or toy in my hands cause he looks at me . . . I have put the lotus ball on a leash, but he still looks at me, but will chase it.

ParticipantHereās more teeter practice. Sorry, camera was to close for the wing wrap view. I did lower the teeter a bit so there is more motion. He seems fine with it. Let me know if you disagree??? And I can raise it again. Thanks.
Lee Tansock
ParticipantHere is some blind cross practice. We either run up or down hill in my yard, thinking about taking this on the road. He really struggled come to my hand so will review hand touched. I back chained and that seemed to help. I am using a box with his lotus ball and treats that we can run to when time to treat, nothing on me anymore. I did try to drop the ball on this king, but preplacement seemed to work better. We just started this method but I think he is catching on and will start to drive more . . . I will work some of the other exercises later. Had to wait for the handyman to get here this morning before I could go outside and of course he was late and then my iPad overheated because itās pretty warm, lol. Anxious to hear your thoughts and if you think it will get better the more we do this?
Lee Tansock
ParticipantOkay, before I keep going, I need to know what Iām doing wrong so I can do it right. Thanks.
