    Good evening Tracy,

Hero and I continued with the 2×2 track today. I had the first set of poles at 1 & 7 and the second set 3-9 and worked all the angles. First clicking for the first set of poles, and right at the end of the session clicking after the second set. He did have questions at the more extreme angles at 3 and 9 on both sides. He was sighting the second set of poles and thought that was where he should enter. After 2 failed attempts I tried to make it easier by holding him in position until he looked in the right direction, and by moving a step closer to 12 so he was able to see the first set again.

    Hi Tracy,

Our session on the Downhill track today was good. But I am starting to get a little self release when I don’t reward for the dismount soon enough or get back to the target to reward for staying in position.

I also managed a session on the End Position Track with the bang game. I tried really hard to follow your instructions lol, but my timing is not the best. For the most part I think Hero knew where he was supposed to be! It seems that he learns by osmosis lol. He is taking stuff in during the previous session and then I leave it for a few days and bam, he’s all over it!

Thanks so much for your reviews, you are very good at explaining!!

    Cheers,

    Hi Tracy,

I closed the weaves to body width for Hezzy Bear, and he didn’t have too much of a problem with that. I did motion and crosses etc. He made a slight deviation on my second blind because I was late! Also at the beginning of the vid I had to slice out a chunk because he did the first rep then buggered off for a wee. I was standing there for a good two minutes lol.

In another session later on I went back to the 2×2 set up. I set the poles straight and worked the clock with motion. He’s doing really well, only one little blip towards the end where I rear crossed and he didn’t drive straight. I think I was a bit quick for him. I watched the video today about adding the second set of poles. Do you think we are ready for that?

    Cheers

    Hi Tracy,

I put the bar up just a smidge, and Ruse is not having problems. She is getting much better at staying stationary on the start line and I tried really hard to walk all the way out, look back for as long as I wanted, then either rewarded backwards, or released to the TT. I feel she understands the game much better.

The wraps….So when I watched the video back, I realised I was stooping as I ran away lol. Apparently I can’t stand up if I am rewarding across my body :-p What I also noticed is that Ruse can turn to the left, much better than the right!! She doesn’t seem very bendy, even though she’s a pretty small dog. Is it that I have just never taught her well enough, and now this behaviour is engrained, or does she just not understand? I have had her checked out by physios before and they said she isn’t really tight on one side or the other. I think I need to work on her conditioning though, maybe that will help?

    Hi Tracy,

I did some more downhill work with Hezzy bear today, I made the tip a little bigger again. The seesaw is now landing on the lower stool. He seemed a bit tentative to begin, but he was playing for chicken necks so by the end of the session I feel like he was more comfortable.

For the bang game on the plank, when you say toss the treat to him, would I be standing out in front facing him and tossing him the treat when I see him get in position?

    Hi Tracy,

I couldn’t lower the wing jump on the set point, so I just put a jump in the middle of the wings that had a lower setting. We did quite a few reps and a lot of rewarding backwards. I can see her twitching to go forward! Just the act of me looking back over my shoulder seems to cause her to release.

The TT is now 4m from the wing jump. Does this look better? We say ‘arse-over-kite’ lol. I do have a video of core strengthening exercises for the dog so I can build these in for her dinner. I realised when watching back I am actually still moving towards the TT when I release her. I didn’t know I was doing this. I know I am supposed to be stationary.

We also did some more wraps. I stood up this time and sent her to the wing. She seems to cut close to the wing into the turn, but come out wide, even when I am running away or throwing chicken necks. Are my mechanics still bad? I can try with a ball as well. I can get that back for a cookie.

    Hi Tracy,

I added 12 poles and tried to leave clicking the TT until Hero was almost out of the weaves, or he had just exited. He seemed ok with that. However, when I rewarded with a giant reward (random chicken neck) after sending him through the channel away from the TT, he then knew I had chicken and wouldn’t leave me alone lol. I did some rear cross and at the end I tried to push my luck and send him toward the TT and I went in the opposite direction. I think it was a bit early for this challenge, but he stayed in but did a really tight wrap at the end to come to me rather than go to the TT.

    Hi Tracy,

We did bang game on the plank today. I am not sure if I am doing it right. He does get in position but he slides a paw off the board. I think I helped him in position a couple of times. Am I not fast enough on the treats? He looks at me when I stand to the side. Do you think having the TT at the end of the plank would be a better visual, or is this just going to complicate things by having to fade it out later? I did jackpot when he got it right on his own. Is jackpotting a good thing? I did a session with Ruse after and she was able to get in position everytime and knew the treat would come to the plastic target.

The weekend affords us more time so we also did a session on the downhill track from where we left off. I lowered the legs on the plyo box but the tip difference would have been too large from our last session. So I added a box. Hero didn’t seem to have difficulty with this. He is beating me to the end.

    Hi Tracy,

Hero and I did another session with movement on the channels last night. I tried to slow my movement so he could make the entries and I don’t think he is weaving to one side.

    Hi Tracy,

I apologise for the terrible video tonight. You can’t see what I am doing but I was trying to run in all different directions while Hairy did his job. The point in the video where he kept failing, I was trying to get him to go off my left leg and I wanted to rear cross. I made him do it way too many times to with failure I should have stopped after the second time. Bad mum!! He did seem to handle the challenge at the end though where he ran in the opposite direction to the TT and stayed in. I really didn’t think he could do that!

Should I do another session like this with the poles the same?

    Hi Tracy,

We tried out the first session of the channel track today. Hairy was fairly speedy and really focused on the TT lol. We started with the 6 poles so that you could see how he would go. He didn’t have trouble as this is how I taught him to weave.

    Hi Tracy,

A quick session on end position this morning. I think Hero is getting much better and he definitely responds to me being in front at this stage. I was able to lure him off the board and he got back on, although he turned around a couple of times to do it. We can practice this more. I did teach him beep beep when he was younger for a backup beep, and he does this on the Aframe, but he hasn’t generalised here.

Should we keep going on the plank for now? Or transfer to the seesaw?

    Hi Tracy,

We did the find ’ems 2×2 again next to the tunnel. It was all going swimmingly except for the extreme entry to the wrap on the rhs. Either the tunnel was extremely distracting, or this was just a hard entry for Hero. When we did the straight poles from this angle on the clock we also had a couple of fails. Interestingly, this is where Ruse failed too, but she was able to work through it after one fail.

We also had a go with the clock, starting with 1-7, then moving the poles straight in the same session. Hero was mostly good, some of the extreme rhs entries were difficult as I mentioned. Sorry I didn’t put the camera in a good spot for you to see his entries once the poles were straight!

I want to try and set up my 2×2’s as channels tomorrow. I will watch those videos next.

    Cheers,

    Hey Tracy, we’re back!

Hezzy Bear and I had a good session on the mountain climbers today. The peanut butter in the tube worked really well. Hot tip: smooth peanut butter will work better than crunchy 😉

I think he was much better at this tip level than the previous session.
