ParticipantStrike a pose threadle
This session went much better than yesterday’s. Can’t believe how wrong my feet were yesterday! It felt wrong in the moment, but I was worrying about WM and the MM too much to notice, I guess.
So, here’s video ih which my feet are pointing the correct way AND we like the MM again.
Thanks,
LyndieP.S. I am having a lot of trouble with posting, and I think it has to do with the number of posts in this thread that have to load every time the browser refreshes. OK if I make a new “part 2” thread?

ParticipantRC with mat
You had recommended a mat with some contrasting color(s) so I could see his feet. RC mats have been an ongoing challenge for me, because my heavier, powerful dogs end up moving them on my grass field when they push off. I have tried many, many mats and many, many arts and crafts combinations.
Here is my latest, which today passed the test with both Phyzz and WM. It is two scratchy door mats sandwiched around a heavy dense rubber mat. The scratchy surface grips the grass and gives good traction to the dogs. Bonus, in that I have another of these mats attached to the down side of my DW currently for Phyzz’s training. So, the tactile feel will be the same.
You’d also asked me to add motion. I’m pretty excited about this. He loved this game and me moving seemed to only motivate him more! No video, but we also did some toy races through the tunnel (WM, not me!) today while just goofing around. And he thought that was pretty awesome too!

ParticipantPerch
We do various kinds of perches on objects and surfaces about as often as we play with retrieves, so this wasn’t new to WM. Stepping over something while rotating was new, though. I’ll try to come up with a setup that keeps the objects from moving for next time.

ParticipantGet Out
Here is a session of Get Out with me walking. When we leash walk, he is always on my right. This session revealed that he is MUCH less comfortable going out when on my left. How would you recommend that I break this down to build his left side confidence?

ParticipantTunnel
Here’s a really brief tunnel session, in which my goals were to see how he handled more distance on the sends and more motion from me. To my eye, he was pretty unfazed by both. Let me know what you think.

ParticipantStrike a Pose, Threadle – 1st session
This session was interesting to me. When I changed up the picture, the MM lost value. Now, to be fair, the treats in the MM were different too, but they were diced roasted pork vs. kibble, and he loves the pork. I’m leaning toward attributing this to his intensely cerebral approach to new things, but I’ll be very interested in your take on it.

ParticipantStrike a Pose
We had some initial errors that seemed to relate to forgotten spoon value. In between the first couple of reps and the rest, I look him a few steps away and just refreshed the spoon.
I see that I’m still not getting the spoon low enough in some of these reps. ARGGGHHHH!

ParticipantGet out practice. Remember how I struggled to get Phyzz off of me when you and I first met? This game with Wingman makes me giddy! I have goosebumps!

ParticipantHi! We are back in CLT for the weekend so playing our games in a different environment!
Here’s some turn and burn practice in a new place with neighbor distractions all around.
Take care,

ParticipantRe: the retrieve to me to get the food. I trained this super early with him, so that part is now old hat to him. We have all kinds of objects that I throw for him……just for the sake of that game or as a reward within another game — small plastic or silicone containers, fabric or fur pouches, the frisbee that I’m using in our tunnel games, lotus balls, etc. When Phyzz was starting to sequence, he became a big party of 1 fool, which wasted a lot of time during our turns in classes, seminars, etc. So this food stuffed toy that had to be brought back to me was how I solved it.
WM is VERY different than Phyzz to train — much more cerebral and concerned with being “right” whereas Phyzz self-rewards with his own movement. But I still like the efficiency of reset that I get from training the food-stuffed toy retrieve. And Lab puppies speak that language very fluently!

ParticipantGet Out – 1st session
In the beginning, I forgot to alternate with some calls to me, but I did add some toward the end. What do I do if he sends out toward the target but rotates back toward me before touching it? Reward or not at this stage?
Thanks,
LyndieLyndie Carney
ParticipantYou’ve mentioned that this is the first in a 3 course MaxPup sequence. Are you able to share details about when parts 2 and 3 will be offered, duration, etc.? We are definitely interested in continuing in the series, and I want to be sure I don’t overprogram Wingman’s trainer.

ParticipantDrumroll, please! Rockinghorse Video!
I did a thing! I did a thing! I pushed record on the camera AND practiced the rocking horse game!
Here you go! He’s getting quicker with his wraps around the barrels. Unfilmed practice for the win, I guess!

ParticipantSerp Transfer
I could see what you meant about his head being up to touch the spoon in the previous session. I still had the spoon too high on a couple of these reps, but some were lower and better. He was doing really well, so I tried the MM, and I was really surprised by his commitment to the spoon before going to the MM, after seeing his MM obsession in the tunnel game.
Let me know what you think. Should I be moving the manners minder farther from the jump wing?
Thanks,

ParticipantRotated Sends with the Barrel
Here are some reps of rotated sends.
We also had a lovely short session of rocking horse games today, and I was so excited to show it to you, but alas I f-ed up the video again. Not sure what it is about that game and my ability to hit record, but one of these days, you’ll see some more. Snow is melting so I have more options about where to play now.
Looking forward to your feedback on the sends.
Thanks,
