ParticipantRetrieve To Hand
I think we have a ringer! We’ve done a lot of retrieve play where he is reinforced for bringing the toy to me feet, but this is the first time my criteria was actually delivery to my hand. There were a few points where he dropped it out of habit, and then his problem-solving to get it to my hand cracked me up.
Take care,

This is actually our second session. Our first session yesterday was brilliant, but someone forgot to hit “record” on the video, so we don’t get to review it.
He’s really “checking his bank account” to figure out when he’ll get paid. And when he gets in that mindset, he slows down.
Looking forward to your feedback.

ParticipantSerp Concept Transfer – 1st session
We are working in tight quarters because of the winter weather. We started with some C/T to remind him of the spoon’s value, but that didn’t really seem to be necessary.
In the first set of reps where I am facing the camera, should I be closer to the wing and less centered on the jump?
Thanks,

ParticipantTunnel
Here’s a little winter wonderland tunnel practice, with a more gradual introduction to threadles this time. I’m interested to hear what you think of how I handled the one where he went past the entry then turned back.
Across a couple of sessions, I’m noticing that any errors are when he’s got a tight turn to the left. Should I work more on less tight turns to the left?
Thanks,
LyndieLyndie Carney
ParticipantWell, I feel silly! In my mind, your video had us starting the threadle work from the far (difficult) end. This was entirely counter-intuitive to me, but I was trying to be open minded.
Well, I just watched your video again, and it is clear to me that my brain conflated the visual of you sending to the tunnel from the far end with the beginning threadle step which came right after it. Uggghh. Sorry Wingman!
Glad to move ahead with training it in a way that makes much more sense to me! We have a quite a bit of snow, but WM has been loving the tunnel in the snow and it doesn’t seem to be slippery for him, so perhaps I’ll try this winter wonderland style today!
Thank you!

ParticipantParallel lines refresher (new prop)
I didn’t really like how my fitness ring prop was flipping up and hitting his legs when he hit it directly, and he sometimes has trouble finding it when we’re working in the shade or on an overcast day. So, today, I worked on transferring value to a new prop — a big orange vinyl dot.
Just kept this simple for today. Do you think I need to work on adding distance before I try the “get out” game?
Thanks,

Here’s our session with me following your advice to stand still.

ParticipantTunnel
Here’s the next tunnel session with the tunnel in a new location and a different toy for his reward. We got more distance and more angles on our entries this time. We got an accidental threadle at one point! A couple of reps later, I tried for an intentional threadle. By this point, I realize in hindsight that I’d let the session go too long, and he was losing his concentration.
I think we can try the threadle earlier (when he’s fresher) in our next session, which won’t be for a few days because of approaching snow. Do you agree?
Thanks,

ParticipantRunning Contact Foundation – 1st session
WM has done some mat work before in public places, with more of a Control Unleashed focus not a RC focus. But today was his first exposure to the pvc box that I use for RAF training.
In this session, I started with Running to the PVC box, stretch to a bit of running through the box, then switch to a mat. Toy breaks in between.
He’s really got the idea that when I put some new object in front of him, he gets rewarded for interacting with it! It is pretty funny. We got a UPS package last week, and I just left it sitting by the front door until I had time to deal with it. When I let him out of his ex-pen, he ran to the box, jumped on top of it, and waited for his reward.

ParticipantGreat tips on the victory lap and retrieve dynamics. Thanks!

ParticipantTunnel
For this session, I switched from the MM to a new toy. I gave him a lot of latitude with his victory laps (and cheered him on) to help build his enthusiasm for the game and the toy. I edited out some of his partying, but am showing you some so that you can see his general engagement level during this game.
He was definitely pulling against my collar grab a lot more in this session than in the previous ones with the MM.

ParticipantTandem Turn – 1st Session
Tandem Turns and Rear Crosses remain a big weak spot for Team Phyzz. Hoping this foundation work helps me with both dogs.
I think I’m seeing a big difference between right and left turns here. Is it my mechanics or a side preference for WM?

ParticipantSerpentine – 1st session
I started with a refresher on the spoon, then did some reps of the “strike a pose.” As we were doing this, I realized that my feet (especially back foot) were pointing sideways, not ahead, in some early reps.
