ParticipantTracy,
Yesterday we did another round of the tunnel wrap game. I was working on my timing of the decel mainly. I missed a couple of them but did get a few as well. I am finding this course to be small for Copper – he is kinda trotting between jumps because they are close. I don’t have much more room in our yard, so we are working with it as best we can 🙂
Today I spread out the jumps a bit more (still a tight space for Copper), and worked on both the fluffy blinds and fronts. I am a novice handler and it shows with these games. I need LOTS of work on all my crosses, so appreciate these games for sure!
Thoughts appreciated as always 🙂

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Here is another round of the threadle wrap game. I added motion for the last few reps. I realized just now (re-read your previous feedback) that I didn’t focus on deceleration when he came to my hand. But he seemed to get the hang of it despite mama not reading the directions well 🙂

ParticipantTracy,
Copper has started barking A LOT at me in both training an trial runs. It seems like he barks when he has to slow down for turns (like pinwheels) or when I call him back (like when we have to retry the weaves).
This started when he decided he loves agility back in January. He also started nipping at me in trials here and there. There have been a couple of times where he got me, and I immediately stop him, make him sit and get my “Mom is really mad” voice out. He does settle after our mom talks, but please let me know if you have other suggestions for how to stop this behavior.
I think part of the issues is he may want me to call his next move sooner. I could use coaching on the timing for calling next moves. For example, do I call a direction change or the next obstacle before a jump or right after he lands?
Here is a session we did this AM with the Wrap game.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I did some mat work with Bandit and Copper this AM. Here is Bandit doing both simple back and forth, followed by a session moving around the mat.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Copper is very comfortable with the noise and bang of the teeter already, so sending a video of him doing the full teeter. Let me know if this is OK in lieu of the Love the Slam game?

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I had not planned on doing anything with Bandit other than basic games until he is old enough, so no worries. The lazy game seemed basic enough for him to do, so glad you are OK that I worked that one with him.
I worked with Bandit this AM on the ShPile game. I was fascinated that he stuck like glue to the two items he already knew – wobble board and his flat board. I will introduce him to the other items outside of this forum and run another round.

ParticipantTracy,
Thanks for the coaching on the eye contact. I did another round of the lazy game where I focused (literally) on Copper’s eyes! Let me know if this is better? Bandit is not a happy camper in the background!
Lazy game with eye contact:
Copper Lazy game with eye contactI also did a round of tunnel sends again, also focusing on my eye contact.
Copper tunnel sends:
Tunnel sends with eye contactI want to chat with you regarding the decision on which type of contacts I should train Copper on. He already knows 2o2o, so that is the easy answer if we can train him to stop in a trial setting. But I am thinking Bandit will probably thrive on running contacts down the road. So training Copper on running now will be a great tutorial for when we start working with Bandit since I don’t know the process for training running contacts. I would keep the 2o2o for the teeter only for Copper if we move to running.
Excited to chat tomorrow!

ParticipantTracy,
Since I was working the lazy game with Copper this AM, I did a round with Bandit as well. Let me know if its OK to share some of the games outside of MaxPup 1 in this forum. If not I will keep these postings to just the level 1 games moving forward.
Best,

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Today we worked on adding the extras you suggested in your last response to the wraps and get out games. This was our second attempt at both games as he was a bit distracted the first time around since we moved everything outside. I was very happy to see he focused much better during this second session!

Here is Bandit with wider barrels for the Rocking Horse Game

We did an afternoon session inside as well. This round focused on Get Outs and Sepentine Shaping

Advanced Serp ShapingI filled out the intake form for Copper to start working on running contacts via 30 minute lessons. I am fine sending videos asynchronously, with you responding at your convenience. Not sure if that is easier than a 30 minute live session, so let me know either way.
Thanks,
Kirstie

ParticipantGood morning!
We worked on both the Rocking Horse and Hind End awareness on a teeter board this AM.

Bandit Rocking HorseWith respect to Copper’s contacts, do you have a contact course that I can use to share videos? Or do you do any sort of virtual training for this type of situation?
As always, appreciate your feedback!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
I am all set for the upcoming MaxPup3 – thank you!
I would greatly appreciate your opinion on running versus 2o2o contacts for the dog walk. An experienced handler that I trust recommended a running contact for the A Frame, with 2o2o for both the teeter and the dog walk. Another experienced coach that I work with here in Florida recommended running for both A Frame and Dog Walk. We all agree the teeter should be a 2o2o.
I am asking for Copper, because I am starting to train his running contacts. He does a 2o2o well on the teeter already, so this question is just for the Dog Walk and A Frame.

ParticipantI would like a working forum spot for Copper. No worries about live Zoom classes, as the forum video approach works just fine for us. Please let me know what I owe you and how I can pay the difference.
Thanks!
