ParticipantI hope you are feeling better. I took a nasty fall several years ago in Salisbury MD the weekend prior to our National Specialty. It was the first run, T2B, of a 3 day weekend and I ended up with several bruised ribs. Made it tough to finish out the weekend but we did. I think we even managed a few Q’s.
Anyway we finally made it back to class after 3 weeks off. The time off shows as Danny usually settles some after the first run and it took a little longer today.
The first video is our first time on the floor. I had taken him out of his crate to do some pattern work while the dog ahead of us was on the floor but he was just getting to excited so I put him away until she was done. You will
See that he doesn’t quite understand to come to me face and we will continue to practice. In the second video I had Tina hold and he got away from her before I was ready. You will see his reaction. He is jumping up on her, this is his fall back behavior when frustrated. When I was done working the course we redid the early release to help him understand that it is okay to just come to me.

ParticipantThis is our first try at “Find my Face in a Sequence”
I only did a couple because I wasn’t sure if I was doing it correctly. The first two tries he sort of went Hey, and gave me a little body slam but the third time he actually comes around to look at me.Sorry if I am posting too much before you get back to me but I like to get the videos up while it is fresh in my mind.

ParticipantI had some down time today and was going through the forum and saw your post about deep breathing. Danny picked up what I was looking for pretty fast. Is this something I can work on during our relaxation time? Just now when we did our emotional exercise, once he layed down I waited for the deep breaths to treat. Is this okay?

ParticipantWe started our Emotional exercises today. I thought it went really well.

ParticipantToday we went back to the trial site. It was much busier than yesterday and I had Danny do his stay closer to the rings. I did a quick video of the venue so you could see where we were.
He did good. The woman videoing was confused about why we were doing a 3 minute stay because she thought it was for obedience so we had a short conversation.
I did a lot of the pattern stuff prior to doing his stay and afterwards. I made sure to have him find my face as well. We will make sure to get that done when we get back to class, which unfortunately won’t be for another week. I will see if I can try it if I get the chance to go to the training building this coming week.

ParticipantWe had not done anything other than some pattern work prior to working on this. We had come to the venue immediately after him getting his clipper work and bath and blow dry done but … not sure how that would make a difference. We walked in, did some pattern work, he got to see one of his girlfriends for a minute or so then we took about 10 minutes to talk to Tina. During this time I tossed some treats and we did our pattern work.
Afterwards we went home (the venue is only about 11 minutes from my house) and I was interestingly surprised that he just went and settled down. Very unusual as normally he would be off to look out the front window but he just went and layed down.
We have not had a chance to work on the “find my face” game yet. I was away and missed this past weeks class and events at the grooming salon made it so I couldn’t get to the training building this past week. Hoping to get there next week.October 14, 2022 at 12:24 pm in reply to: Diane Betelak and Danny K, Standard Poodle (working student) #41754meandrosie
ParticipantI’ve been a little slack about posting but we have been working on relaxation, using the snuffle mat and the Cato board pretty much daily. Work kind of got in the way this week but we still did some stuff. I’ve been using the Cato board at work in the lobby this week. Yesterday a client came in during it so I needed to move up close to him. He only broke once, I put him back on and stayed close.
Today I took him over to our local trial. We played some pattern games and then set him up on the Cato board in the lobby. He did good. I made sure he could see if there were people or dogs in the area and his favorite Aunt Tina was also where he could see her. We will go back tomorrow and Sunday and move in closer to the rings.

ParticipantI had to go back and watch the shadow handling video to see where he was jumping up, I think he was just trying to get his toy at that time. He will jump on me when he is frustrated when we are at agility class or in a trial. Tina has me tossing a small treat whenever he or I make a mistake to help with that and it has helped tremendously. Otherwise he is pretty good in that regard. He occasionally gets over excited when we are out in the yard playing and will go off doing zoomies and what I call fly by’s. That’s where he comes really close to me and jumps as he is running by. Sometimes he will grab at me or my clothing. This doesn’t happen as much now as it did when he was younger.
Attached is our Sit/Stay on the Cato board today after reading your instruction. I also did some nosework with him today. My thoughts are if sniffing his snufflemat is calming then practicing our nosework would be as well. It will also remind him for when our classes start up again next week. We’ve been a little slack lately.October 3, 2022 at 11:42 am in reply to: Diane Betelak and Danny K, Standard Poodle (working student) #41232meandrosie
ParticipantToday we worked on our shadow handling and Danny’s Sit stay on the Cato board. Attaching videos to make sure we are doing it properly. He has had a lot of heeling practice so he was a bit confused but I think we did okay.

ParticipantNo video unfortunately and while I had the snuffle mat with me we didn’t use it until we got home.
We are leaving tomorrow to camp for a week up in the 1000 Islands area so I will have plenty of opportunity to film him outdoors with the Cato board and snuffle mat. Both are packed.
Hope you are feeling better.September 29, 2022 at 4:41 pm in reply to: Diane Betelak and Danny K, Standard Poodle (working student) #41161meandrosie
ParticipantToday we took a ride to the largest outdoor dog show in our area. It has everything, conformation, obedience, rally and agility. I had been entered in agility but pulled so we were really only there to get Danny’s eyes checked and visit with his breeder. He was amazing, no lunging and trying to drag me around. While we were ringside watching poodles we played the pattern game. He pretty much just stayed focused on me.
Before going I stopped by the grooming salon and picked up his snuffle mat. When he was younger I would give him his lunchtime kibble on it. The video is him getting some treats just now.
Oh, the Cato board is here. Delivered this afternoon.

ParticipantHere is the video of our relaxation exercise. I do it in my room because that is his quiet place where we do our fitness work. You will see he finally settled down at about minute 8. The first night we did it he laid down a few times but popped right back up. This time he really seemed to settle.
The second video is our Pattern Game. As I said previously we have been playing step 1 for a few months. I did a few reps on step one and then tried step 2. He didn’t understand “snacks” at first but it didn’t take long for him to get it.

ParticipantGood Morning! Cato board is on order and I received a shipping notice yesterday so hopefully it will be here soon. In the meantime I do have a couple of Kaizen balance pads that I use for fitness work.
I will get some video of our relaxation exercise tonight.
We have been doing step 1 of the pattern game for probably a month now, pretty much everywhere we go. I even use it in agility class when things go off. Should I move on to step 2? I’m going to the training building this afternoon and will get some video of that as well.September 24, 2022 at 9:32 pm in reply to: Diane Betelak and Danny K, Standard Poodle (working student) #40918meandrosie
ParticipantHe has a great sit/stay at home and Ben out of sights when we practice for Scentwork and at home and class when we are working Rally exercises. It is only when we are doing agility that he can’t seem to hold a stay.
We are doing our homework. Last night he settled in a down, even put his head down a few times. Tonight was harder for him but he hung in there and stayed with me.September 24, 2022 at 1:35 pm in reply to: Diane Betelak and Danny K, Standard Poodle (working student) #40895meandrosie
ParticipantThank you! Email is sent and I ordered a Cato Board.
