ParticipantOk, we had our first trial back after COVID.I was very interested to see if the engagement and motivation work would pay off in a more stressful environment. I am very pleased to say that she did awesome! She got faster and faster each day. I am trusting her and she loved running so much faster with me. She showed some signs of stress outside of the ring but when she stepped out on the line, it was game on! She was pumped up on the start line and took off. So much of our practice really came together.
Here is one of my favorite runs from this weekend!

ParticipantTurn on the gas=go faster
Great! Thank you so much for the feedback!Melanie Harris
ParticipantHere is the video of the example that I listed above. She slows down when she sees the person videoing and I use the verbal DRIVE and you can see her “turn on the gas” and then keeps it for the rest of the run.

ParticipantI agree! She is having fun and not worrying about environmental stresses. I have really been working on the lead out because that seems to really set the stage for the rest of her run in terms of engagement and speed (as long as I keep the connection). I have used a method in the past that has seemed to help her as well and I want to run it by you to get your thoughts. I use something that is super high drive for her and when she runs to it, I have put a verbal queue with it. I have started using it on courses with her and you see a visable increase in her speed. Have you ever heard of that before. I actually have a video of her demonstrating this. Thoughts?

ParticipantGood evening. I have been practicing the different skills and made a video of us putting them together and running a small course. I wanted to show you our routine. I did a few start line warm-ups before running.

ParticipantOk, tonight we practiced the chase game in a tougher environment. Then once I got her engaged, we tried some speed circles. The first one was slower but she was more driven going the opposite driven. Here are some videos.

ParticipantI had a revelation tonight. I have always thrown the toy away from me. I started playing the game of chase where I kept the toy as an extension of me. She got so reved up! I kept the practice short and ended with her wanting more. My next step is to try the same exercise around agility equipment. I am already excited at the new level of drive she is displaying.
