So I plan on showing Roux at her first trial end of January. I have been working on everything and should be able to start to run some in December and she is being spayed December 11th.
My concern is waiting for the run to begin. I don’t believe she will be a dog that will do well waiting in line. She is already pretty amped in those situations and watching other dogs do agility makes her even higher. I can get her to do tricks but chill is something we are working on. I am not sure how to handle the time I need to get into the ring and it is not something I am able to practice easily.I am thinking to do everything warm up, tricks, and then go somewhere alittle further away until I’m 3rd up and then put her in line. I am just not sure how to deal with this little “bitch”. I have always had boys before and have not had any issues waiting in line or having my Aussies chill. They have all enjoyed belly rubs as their chill but Roux is Roux? Is there something I should do to work through this in steps easier? I am ok until I have to line up and I don’t want to work her up even more. Once in the ring I believe she will be fine but we will see in January.

Sequence 2 and redid the sequence 1 with staying closer to jump 4 in order to get the ending on that side and worked great no questions on her part.

Am going to switch to a leash she can tug for exiting and a snuffle mat for once we get back to crate area to decompress her. I am practicing in class without toy in hand and taking it out when I reward.

One question do you have strategies for what to do after run is over. We always have so many people at ring exit. I usually just exit and go to my crate to reward. Roux however, isn’t a dog I can just let lead me to her crate (yet) for a reward and ignore all the other dogs. I can grab food and use that to treat her and then use that to get back to crate. Food keeps her focused on me and I will see if a leash she can tug on some helps also.

I tried out being on her line and it worked great!!!! Should I always be positioning myself like that except for backsides where she works need to see the wing? Or is this just on openings? I feel her confusion with this sequence was my incorrect position which was really apparent when rewatching the video.

Ok, I’m still getting used to the huge distance I have to have. It’s much harder with my 6 year old but I am hoping to be able to run alittle in December. It has been very interesting.

Knee is slowly improving I am still only allowed to walk. Thanks for asking! It is definitely getting old doing “walking agility” however, it is very eye opening.

So I have a question about behavior. I have been taking Roux to trials since she was a young puppy and we attend classes and seminars also. I have my backpack and tricks really help her stay focused. I haven’t started trialing yet but hope to soon. She has been doing well and stays with me when I add distractions and have noticed if she is working she doesn’t notice dogs etc at ring side while she works. However, in her crate if she can see out in a trial or seminar setting with dogs she doesn’t know if they come close to the crate or walk by she will bark reactively at them. I am not sure what to do besides keeping crate covered to not have her do this. Wondering if you have any suggestions that I could try.

I like working on the connection exercises. I found I sometimes pulled her off but I think my slowness doesn’t help.

I was wondering what height you think I should be jumping her. She is 17 months old and measured 16”. I have just started jumping her 16” and she seems to have no problem at all. I think I might have to jump 20 “ in UKI since she measures 18” now. But in practice right now what should I do?

Fun exercises and good to do with no moving. I can see easily that I am not connecting with her which causes confusion on her part which is 100 % fair.

So I don’t have a verbal when I lead out and call them to backside should I? I have in-in when I am moving but when I start I depend on my body.

Roux Week 8. Not sure if I should react to bar coming down or not. Had her measured before my surgery and she is jumping 16” now but not much wiggle room to jump 20”. I want to do UKI also so not sure if I should just have her jump 20” everywhere or UKI and ISC 20 and AKC 16?

Was happy to do some work with her and my other boy today. Can’t do a lot and need breaks in order to minimize swelling but was happy to do some agility.
