ParticipantHi Tracy,
Over the past couple of days we have been putting some work into the “under the dogwalk” sequence with Ronan. Three short sessions in total. The first one was building up the distance to run the line coming out of tunnel, the second session was performing the wrap sequence, and the final session on the wrap, push, and the balance sequence. I think we was pretty patterned to the sequence by the third session so I don’t think he was really working away in a sense. Still, he was fun!
We also ran him for the first time in a fun run in a sort-of trial environment. He was well-focused and ran his first 17 obstacle course. It wasn’t perfect but really showed that all of the Max Puppy work is paying off! I am running him in FEO speed stakes next week to get more ring time, that should be fun!
Let us know what you think. I apologize for tripod part in the frame at the beginning – I had the old iphone in backwards.

ParticipantExercise 2 – These were a fun bunch of sequences and let Ronan perform his favorite back side wraps and threadles! The only issue I ran into was on the push back wrap, with Ronan needing a bit more support to do the wrap and not pull off when we passed the upright. I would say that the threadle slice was his favorite handling move in this set.
Here is the vid.

ParticipantThanks for the feedback. I can definitely see what you mean at :48, 1:00, and 1:13 about the line indicating tunnel. A little bit of the misplacement may be due to needing to support that jump and then running to the wrong spot and a bit might be that the set-up is a bit tight. I will work on the first four jumps with a cheat marker down of some type to make sure I am crossing on the jump line and not the tunnel line. Some rain this morning so no play for Rony Pony!

ParticipantVideo work, discrimination lines. Ronan is in young dog sticky mode and needs quite a bit of support on jumps in certain situations. In this session that resulted in what looks like to me late crosses and slipping past some jumps. I am hoping 6hat these drills will build more jump independence. The blind crosses from Karena were better timed and I struggled with being late and losing connection. Seminar was so much fun! Mike

ParticipantTracy, when will we receive the map we need to set up? I may need to move some contacts around to fit it in.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We did a little bit of the fluffy front and blind cross sequence today. Felt like doing a fun drill! He was pretty good as long as I kept my connection on the pinwheel and was not thinking about the cross coming up. I worked the lazy drill a little bit to reinforce the jump.

ParticipantThis was a follow up session with the same basic setup as last time. It was a few days ago and then a terrible heat wave settled upon us!
What you said made sense. For this session I tried very hard to not block the wing! I had a new “thing” crop up in this session where he turned right instead of wrapping left around the wing. Maybe he thought I was doing a “rear cross” at the wing. The second side was better and I tried to be fluid and not step forward and then backward (to get him to be successful).
Interestingly Mike said Ronan also turned right for him at the same wing / wrap. Unfortunately he didn’t video his session).

ParticipantWe are still going back and doing some of the drills that we missed from week 4. Here is the ladder / 2 wing drill. Tbh I thought this would be pretty straightforward but it wasn’t! He was a bit better at committing to the wing when I did the second side. I was trying to do what felt natural but that likely means my chest wasn’t rotated enough towards him…

ParticipantHi Tracy,
For the zig zag drill, we will try and set him up more parallel to the wing the next time. In the meantime, we went back and worked on one of the earlier wingin’ it drills that we missed.

ParticipantHi Tracy, we will incorporate the improvements in the wingin’ it drill tomorrow! We ended up trying the zig zag this evening instead as he was pretty tired after the activities today. I am definitely seeing that I am better with his kiss kiss kiss when he is turning right rather than left.
Here is the zig zag drill in the meantime.

ParticipantHi Tracy, a not so short “wingin’ it-tunnel threadle” session. I did not get beyond the basic set up in this first session. I learned that this verbal and hand gesture are not quite there yet with him. I had to back-up a bit. Is my body position incorrect? Feet pointed the wrong way? Any other suggestions on reinforcing the behavior on this one? Mike
P.S. after watching your instruction video again, we realized a few things that I was not doing quite right. Once it drops in temp a bit today, we are going to try again!

ParticipantWeek 7 wingin’ it- laps and tandems. I’m not sure what happened to the first session’s video for this drill! But here we are doing session 2. The first session did not have any advanced drills (with the added sequencing around wings).
I didn’t keep my shoulder open for the left left or right right around the wings and it caused him to not take one. My arm was high too! I’ll get it one of these days… I thought he was really good with the turn aways! Karena

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Video session for concept transfers, lead outs. Video is a bit long with the left and right handed session. Timing of the crosses in some cases were a bit late but he understood the concepts pretty well. He wasn’t perfect on the third jump but he was above 90% successful.
P.S. feel free to fast forward past our lead outs! 🙂 I wanted to see if he had elevator butt.

ParticipantYeah, I remember mad libs quite well. “I think changing the cat so I get soaked would help the tunnel entry with the rear”!
I moved the jumps to make it a bit easier for the drill. He was nearly 100%! I don’t think he liked my pitch change for the “go” however! LOL.

ParticipantHi Tracy, thank you for the input! Karena had just let me know that something had been deleted in my post to make it nonsensical. I don’t even remember what my question was. I will try putting the wings at different “times” this evening to see if that works for him!
