ParticipantHi Tracy,
We had another session yesterday to work on some of your comments. We struggled with the parallel path with our lateral motion. Maybe our timing was off and we weren’t ahead enough? He was ignoring the lagging arm that was out and going right for the toy hand. What do you think?

ParticipantWe did more week 8 work last night and this morning. We continued the backside slice drill and did mostly position 1 with a few 2s. We did a mixture of sit stays and cookie tosses. We also did a quick session of strike a pose, pt 3 with the treat n train. We haven’t used it a lot with him but he knows treats fall out of it :).

ParticipantHi Tracy,
A little week 8 work last night and this morning. Fun exercises! I only put one example of Ronan going around the second wing in the strike the pose exercise but he did that a few times until we adjusted the toy placement.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Thanks for class last night, always fun to watch the pups and have the lessons explained live! We had a chance today to have a few sessions with Ronan on this week’s drills.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Finishing up some work on Week 5 before tomorrow’s class. Contact foundation, parallel path, and barrel turns. He was doing pretty well with most of these. I hope I included enough reps, I tried to not be too repetitive!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Some thoughts on our first pass verbals. Only a few on here we are sure on, mostly carry overs from out other dogs. Might be too hard to teach the brain to change.Karena Kosco
ParticipantHi Tracy,
The blue sky came out this morning and I was able to squeeze in a short session of handling combos. I also worked a bit on the start line drill with a toy. Here is the handling combo video. He liked this drill!Karena Kosco
ParticipantWeek 4 – handling combos
We had a (rare)day of heavy rain today. E improvised a bit and moved into the garage. I apologize about the lighting! We could only do a little bit due to the space but we tried a few different drills for the lesson. His preference for toys was a big distraction here. He was definitely surprised by the deceleration after some “get its”.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Thank you for the feedback.
On the lap turns I am definitely more comfortable on the right than on the left. It is getting better but I still need some work. I will remember to extend a bit further out towards Ronan on the next time through. After your comments on the tandem turn, we went back and thought about it a bit more. I was using the wrong arm in the video and it should have been the inside arm. My mistake! I will need to work a bit more with the inside arm in practice.
For the prop game, I think he is ready to try it without the cookie. I will try this after I stop typing this up! It will be in the living room and that will give him a good chance of success without the distractions.
The leg bumps were fun, but he is nearly too big to do them over my legs! We have real cavalettis that I can try next. The first rung is a bit tall so I will look for an alternative if he is struggling.
I will enjoy not having to click on the start line drill, too much to remember in sequence! Toys will be next for sure! With the color of our sand outside, the pups always have trouble finding the treats when tossed!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
Karena and I will start thinking about our different verbals for these situations. I did a little bit on the prop games 3 lap and turn on the flat. Let me know what you think!
Session 1-leg bumps and ladders
I had to switch from the toy for the leg bumps and ladders to a treat. The toy was not allowing his brain to focus on the footwork of the drill. Do you think we need to work up to a toy or is a treat or manners minder sufficient (for the ladder)?
Week 4 start line
My timing was all over the place in my first two sessions today. It improved a bit each time.

ParticipantI have used a general verbal if “check” in the past but that does not discriminate between an off-line tunnel or backside of a jump. Both of these are the same verbal “check” with our border collie Jax. I will defer to Karena on that one! 😉

ParticipantHi Tracy,
A little bit of tunnel training. Ronan is familiar with the tunnel so we didn’t spend much time on the baby level.

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We will continue to work towards being able to have reward more obvious as his drive to the target increases.
I didn’t pick up on his side preference, would thanks for seeing that. He has seemed to prefer sides before. We will keep working on his balance!

ParticipantHi Tracy,
We are posting the week 3 rear cross video. We found it a challenge to get Ronan to turn the correct way after the prop. Hoping you have some suggestions! Mike
