ParticipantI’d like to think that was the issue but in trials it’s more a “poles, what poles, I don’t see any poles” – she never actually weaves 1.
Wendy
ParticipantThese are pegged 2x2s and I also have a set of 12 screw in poles on a base that can zigzag but I suspect they will also have some flexibility. I might try and see. At trials we generally have the metal base with 3 sets of 4 poles. The poles drop in the holes which are taller than mine and they fit more snugly.

ParticipantIdiot that I am, I was putting the wing on the wrong side. I took it away after she knocked it over and replaced it with an x-pen panel. This seemed to confuse her so I did away with the prop altogether. I think it is back to the drawing board on weaves – she has never done more than 1 weave in a trial ie one gap. She generally blasts straight past. If I move, she is inclined to pull out. We have been working on this but not recently.
Wendy
ParticipantI cannot figure out where the wing goes (and size) for week 2. It seems like a huge obstacle in the dog’s way…
Wendy
ParticipantWe’ve had some rain and have been away for a week…
Towards the end we struggled with the rear cross, not sure why.
Wendy
ParticipantWe tried seq 1b – which was harder than it looked apparently. Maisy tells me I was doing it all wrong. this is a selection of bloopers. The others managed fine. They are so much more forgiving!
Wendy
ParticipantWorking on improving timing for blind and front crosses – front crosses need more work.
Wendy
ParticipantI had every confidence Miss “move and I’ll call off it” would not suck into the tunnel. I was almost right! Put the bars on 12″ to avoid the crescendo of crashing bars. Almost worked but she always skims bars regardless of height so there is no margin for error.
I can see a couple of times I pointed her into the tunnel, oops.
Not sure why the jump before the tunnel kept falling. When I put it up to 14″, she did better – on the last rep.

ParticipantGet a Border Collie they said, it will be fun they said…
Last time we got to this point in your lines course, you sent us off to work the Lazy Game… we did and I think it generally made her commitment better. Then she worked it again when Sassy did it this time. We will keep working it. All 4 of the others can do these sequences, no issues, but Maisy is my agility dog, lol.
Wendy
ParticipantWe did some work on blinds – these look kinda late to me:
I know Maisy would take me out so she only worked on the lazy game.
Wendy
ParticipantThanks for the great feedback. I did try to follow instructions…and I can see that we are doing better with the middle jump, when she takes it, lol. It only came down once (sadly it is not well shown on the video).
The final jump of the pinwheel came down a few times. Am I leaving too early? not enough connection? I tried running away to the final jump and that just pulled her off the tunnel (maybe edited out).Wendy
ParticipantWorking on more excitement (sounds vaguely hysterical, lol), more speed, more decel in our wrap sequences.
Wendy
ParticipantSo I am trying to be turned by the time she is coming out of the tunnel… but I do not seem to have time for a send step to #5. It is not looking good. I was getting excited at the bar staying up till I realised she wasn’t doing the middle jump, lol.
Wendy
ParticipantMy cues seem a little late and I am not sure I should be jogging in a circle but I kind of need to go to the middle jump of the pinwheel to work in the decel and turn bit…and as for the verbal cues [oh my]
Wendy
ParticipantSequence 3 proved to be quite a challenge with bars. The “shhh” cue is her collection cue – coupled with my body movement, caused the 1st bar of the pinwheel to drop. I think. So I went to the “right cue”, less body motion… I also added more connection on the middle jump. I have been told she is training me to stand still on course because she does find me distracting so I try and keep my handling quiet (not the cues). Not sure if more timely cues would have helped…although some of these look a little late
