    Timing and connection…

This was such a fun exercise. Maisy is fast, lol, I am sure you hear that a lot. I am often not where I need to be in time…
Sequence 1: I had no doubt she could run this on remote control. WOO? – I reckon she was locked on to the tunnel from takeoff on jump 1…I gave (or tried to) give the tunnel cue as she landed off 1. Go go go landing off 2. Coupled with connection and forward motion after the break cue.
Sequence 2: I was fascinated that I could actually call her off the tunnel by turning my shoulder early and giving the “right” jump cue over the 2nd jump in our 2nd try. Wow. After a break to reload and think, I figured the “right” cue was ok landing off jump 2, with stronger connection out of the tunnel and some forward motion to avoid the bobble towards the “go” jump. Otherwise the right cue meant turn right after jump 2 which she did. Also forgot jump 5, oops.

In week 2, timing and connection game, what are you actually saying and where? I can hear the ‘tunnel’ cue, do you have a ‘jump’ cue? or di you use “go” for the jump after the tunnel? and landing off that jump, do you use left or right for heading to the middle jump? It seems to me that if you do, they should rightfully be taking the jump on the same plane as the one they have just taken (and back into the tunnel without the middle jump). Or do you use right and left on the middle jump only?

I apologise I have not had time to watch the live (it was at midnight my time, lol).

Cannot help but feel she has it down pat, me not so much, lol. We had a few sessions on sends + connection and extended the distance on the pinwheel.

Grass has been mowed and dried out some for the accordion grid work. I am also using a dragged treat ball and setting her up further away. I am not sure I see any difference in her head position? My setup distances were also pretty inexact.

She was mightily unimpressed with the wet grass – it’s been raining for 2 days so the lawn is pretty sodden.

This was our third session on the lateral send and is a bit hit and miss still. I think it will probably be an important skill in its application on course for us so we will keep practising. I cut out a lot of stay rewards. The stays are mostly good.

Thank you for your always valuable feedback. I just need to work through this at my own (slow) pace, lol. Do a few more reps minus little miss till I have the sequence and correct verbals in my head.

I did practise this with the Borders. No words for how that went. Just fast, furious and pretty silent, although they knew what I meant. I can see the verbals would be terribly useful if I wasn’t right there on top of them.

Smiley Face tunnel threadles – oh my! This one blew my brain for sure. My cues were pretty random…I could not think what to say when she came out of the tunnel to go to a threadle after a tunnel cue. Sometimes I just used tunnel. I thought I’d get better after 3 sessions, but no, no better.

A few seconds of zigzag 2 with closer bars: https://youtu.be/h6bHPxB4i8g

Lap turns and tandem turns: Alas, I fear there was flinging! Can I just say how satisfying it was to do a couple of tandem turns on courses on the weekend in a couple of tricky spots. They worked so well I impressed myself.

I struggle to replicate a racetrack in the video because I have to work out what I’m doing next and where I should be in quick succession and I don’t think my mind works that fast…

Thanks for your feedback. We’ve improved a lot just going back to 2 wings to start:

    ZigZag 2 (1st session)
