ParticipantI’d love my cues to be as subtle as yours! Thank you for the suggestion. I will try it today.

ParticipantThe independent backside is definitely something we struggle with despite years of practice. Unless I run directly at the wing, she seems to take the front side. This puts me in the way when she comes screaming over the jump. Luckily the toy distracts her! My attempts to leave earlier do not go well once she has a bit of speed up.

ParticipantWe did a brief session on the threadle wrap this morning and I was pleased she remembered what to do. I was at a seminar recently where she should only do the push, not the wrap and I have to say that the push is easier for us as a team mid-course ie I can be sure she will do it. Sass could not remember the threadle wrap at all!
This session she yelled a bit at the beginning so maybe I was slow with my cues or out of position?
Tried to do a sequence but stopped when she started hitting jump#4. She was probably tired but it was only a 4 minute session all up.

ParticipantDoes summer camp for Puppy Brains overlap with MaxPup? Should we do it as well?

ParticipantThe discrimination was an interesting exercise for us. I tried ages ago and it was a 50/50 exercise at best between tunnel and jump. This was better than that and will be very helpful for all those off-courses. Hopefully. Gosh she is a rocket… And the weaves? No surprise they need work.
Wendy
ParticipantI think I need the training. Useful exercise.

ParticipantSassy had a go: https://youtu.be/W_4To2GROrY
This is her 3rd session. I found when I threw a treat for each jump in the early sessions she tended to stop and wait till I threw the treat.

ParticipantAlways interested. Your 7pm or so works well the next morning in Oz.
Wendy
ParticipantThank you for your feedback. It really is much appreciated.
I did have to squash this sequence up to add jump 7. She did really well with a nice tight post turn provided I gave my collection cue. Last rep is a spin.
Wendy
ParticipantWe practised more of the forward focus and she does struggle when I am behind her – ongoing work for that.
I was both surprised and pleased when she did the first 2 sequences without much help. I kept the bars low so she wouldn’t knock them but it didn’t make a great deal of difference.

ParticipantWe filmed our first video while Grace had a nap. It is a skill we have done some work on.
Wendy
ParticipantHope this snuck in under the wire!

ParticipantWe did some tunnel layering: success seemed to depend on where wing no.1 was once the tunnel ends were open. Still, happy with this. The jump was about a metre away from the tunnel but the angle makes it look less.

ParticipantGrace did well at her seminar – not so much the stays (I think it was the sandy arena surface her butt did not want to approach), but her tunnel and wing wrap were on point and her focus forward to a bowl. She did go exploring once and did not want to leave but went to the instructor for a cuddle so I got her back … stuff to work on but the instructor was very impressed and said she could go in Novice when she comes to instruct at Wagga. She’ll be 14 months by then.
We did some diamond – I think I’m too slow with the sharp blind? And the racetrack foundered on the middle jump (out of frame). I think she was getting tired or the connection was not strong enough.
Wendy
ParticipantWe did a practice on 32″ then 34″ but I’m wondering if it should be more? And maybe the bar is too high at 4″ (she’s almost 11mo and will have to jump 8″ eventually). The pool noodle was not cooperating.
I’m excited she has a “Foundations” seminar on the weekend. I am less worried about her skills than if she’ll come back to me with her keenness for all dogs and people.
