ParticipantNot much worries her…”plankrobatics”

ParticipantI changed out a few items for the goat tricks, using a soft cushion, a step and a fitbone. The SSC at a more advanced level was easier with the food dish. I had to block more and move the cone closer for the toy or she would dive through (edited).

ParticipantApologies for the lighting – I forgot to pull the blind but it is not too bad… As suggested we revisited the Goat Game to see if she would come back to the prop – not a fluent behaviour yet. I used a bottle of dishwash liquid in lieu of the scented candle and that went better. The we tried the SSC game with the cone and she did well. I have to say I got a bit mixed up with holding the collar and pointing the hand to the bowl because it seemed to be the same hand. I’ll rewatch the video.

ParticipantDid a few good rounds of sends and Vito. Moved on to Goat Games 1 and SSC, using cheese as you suggested. It tends to stick to my fingers because it is 35C/95F here at the moment. But it is less to chew! She does lose her train of thought a few times. I noticed during the SSC when a novel item was introduced she forgot she was looking for a treat…

ParticipantThanks for your suggestions. We had a much better session today. We tried a hat but it had knobs on to nibble, then another hat and a towel, both of which apparently resembled tug toys. We settled on a dusty old kneeler pad from the garage. She had an excellent session with the first hat this morning – go figure.

ParticipantWe’re having an issue on the sends. This is her 2nd session with sends and she is jumping at my hand and not looking at the prop. I did take the treats out of the hand. To be clear, she is not biting. I did start with a refresher on the object and that went well.
Doing better with Vito – at one stage she does take a treat away to eat. This is her 1st session with the pole.
PS sorry about the lighting. Will do better!Wendy

ParticipantSo we have been practising wraps and slices and doing fine with your instructions, so I moved on to the first slice exercises, handling both sides.
Had a hard time getting her out to the blue jump #5 which slowed me down for 6 to 7.
Do not seem to be able to get the blind in and pick her up on the correct side 7 to 8. Last rep we came close to disaster. Is the way we are doing it wrong? she lands in front of me instead of behind. Seems to work.
I found it harder to get to the blind on the takeoff side, unsurprisingly. Eye opener of an exercise.

ParticipantWe did skill practice for Package 2. I am not sure about doing a backside to threadle wrap when she is halfway thru a course – just not sure she would respond at speed. Anyhow, we managed the righthand side. The we had a second session a bit later and I thought I should try a leftside wrap. They quickly became slices and I am not sure how my cuing differed? Anyway, I guess we can do slices too, lol.
What often confuses me about these me is: which side of you the dog takes off from and which side of you they take up when they land.

ParticipantGot the opening but kept losing her in the tunnel in the closing… maybe I needed to move more?
Wendy
ParticipantI have been known to get my lefts and rights wrong… For my next trick, if all else fails, just point vaguely in the direction you want your dog to go.
We practised passing by the tunnel yesterday. The tunnel had tunnel hats on each end and that helped. I learnt that I cannot get round the end of the tunnel before her after handling #8 jump. As I don’t have a stunt double, I tried just sending her – again we practised this and I can see how it would be useful for open courses with exclusion zones.

ParticipantIcy winds and intermittent showers kept us from doing a bit more but I was happy with what we did. Pretty sure the last bar was her watching me with the treat ball. She turns tightly if she gets the info in a timely way. Suspect I was a bit late on jump 3 given her extension jump.
BTW, should I be focussing more on the packages, rather than the lives? I am not sure of their relationship or relative importance but we haven’t tackled Package 2 yet. Thanks
BTW, new chi pup arriving in August! – in time for Puppy Camp in the New Year.-

ParticipantI was surprised she struggled initially with the distance when we did a practice run yesterday.I struggled with the extra jumps lol. Bit better today.
Wendy
ParticipantPretty happy with this – 5 minutes from start to finish (minus a minute for each startline, lol). Did my best to sabotage her tight turns out of the tunnel by being out of position. All good learning.
Wendy
ParticipantTrying not to be too ambitious, we just did the one sequence. This was very useful because we get a lot of off-courses, many of them tunnels. I think my rotation on the reverse spins must have been late because she did not read them… It was sequence 4 not 3 btw.
