We did a bit of self-control work today. Zing has done this before, but probably 4 or 5 weeks ago. So, good time to review.

We have time just for a couple of recalls before we had to go about our day. One with food and one with a toy. She is finally getting fairly good with recalls, unless it is wild life, then no way.

Sweet! Zing will be bummed that she will have to wait her turn, but her mom will be happy.

    Thanks

I loved her reaction to the food toy!

Word for telling her to let go of the toy is “drop-it”. I was paying attention this morning and I automatically say “ok, drop-it”. I need to train myself to just say “drop-it”. I get very use to speaking to my dogs in a somewhat natural language and this is the consequence.

I will work on a stationary tug, great idea.

Hey, are we going to do things that will help Zing with waiting her turn while another dog is worked? I know self-control and age are contributing factors, but just curious if you have stuff up your sleeve? Zing firmly believes that all turns belong to her, more so than my other dogs did at her age 🙂

We decided to work more of the switching from toys to food. I tried to raise my excitement of food, also put it in a container. There is kibble (low value) and cheese (high value) in there. Also, put a bit of language that I use for toys into the food play.

Let me know what you think.

Yeah, I agree on the distraction. Didn’t mean to put her through the ultimate test, everybody was feeling especially feisty.

Just confirming that I am seeing what you did. ” Line her up at your side, holding her next to your leg, *then* throw the toy. That way she is already facing the straight line”. I did this on the first race right?

I will keep the distances short and go for more quality in her line. Yep, I am sure she will smoke me in the end. I have no fear in that one.

And her toy races. I think I need to be better about placement of the toy relative to me? She can’t run in a straight line and I think I want that right?

Here is Zing’s Ping Pong. We played it once before prior to this session. All my dogs were out on the field (as you can hear). Zing was a big distracted, but kept on task nicely.

??Do you want us to reward with the toy off to the side?

This sounds great, I will give it a whirl.

Quick question, say I am shaping to get in a box. MM is positioned someplace else. Where am I? Normally I would be by the box.

Yes, she can leave me in the dust, I will film when we don’t have ice on the ground. But this is something I am always playing with her.

In terms of the MM, I want to build the behavior and probably not perfect it to the point of super high arousal. With Hoot and Split I had the problem that the MM was stupid enough that she/he would not ever go to it. This was problematic. So, with Zing, I would like a medium speed drive to it. Trying to think through and build the behaviors that I will need later on.

    Make sense?

Here is Zing’s trick that we worked on this morning. Just wanted her to put the thing in her mounth. I realized my first section was too long, kept the next one shorter.

Can you tell the tricks we worked on last night LOL, offered very early on: frog and bow.

I began to wonder as I was reading the instructions for this game. I have really good drive from Zing to a toy. But, I want good drive to a TnT as well (think RDW). I am thinking that I can use this to create good drive to the TnT. What rules would you put around it. Get the treat, eat the treat, then tug?

Lots of great info! So, is it weird to not having a video with a barking dog from me LOL?

What happened with the toy play, I was saying the wrong word and she was trying to put it in my hand. Once I figured out to tell her “get it”, she was right on the task. And yes, I am probably playing a bit more with the right-hand because of my left-arm injury. I will try to wrap it and take the hit for the puppy.

I will reward food with more excitement. Perhaps, I will treat myself with chocolate and her with something good so we are both doing the happy dance.

I will work through all the food/toy ideas. Love the idea of unpairing the door release. HaHa, this morning she was away from the door with no other dogs. I guess she will have to be MUCH further away 🙂

    Thanks for the help!
