ParticipantAnd I know that location โ I am scheduled to teach a seminar there in July!!
Yes I know. I was told yesterday by the person who is organizing the seminar that you were coming. Got the dates marked on my calendar.A suggestion to maintain his drive and engagement while reducing stress: get the reward in by either continuing after a handling blooper, or reward immediately and enthusiastically (donโt stop him and donโt ignore him).
Okay I will work on this in my class. Either continue on like nothing happen just like running in competition. If a stop make sure I praise and reward immediately. And while he was very resilient there, I donโt want him to have to be resilient ๐ You can continue and fix it on the next run. Plus continuing is great to get us humans to think on our feet, which is great prep for trials!
Question: After I complete the run and reward and praise him, would it be okay then to go back where I had an issue and just work on that section since I still have time?On the re-start, he came out of the weaves when you changed your pace from walking to running. You didnโt change your pace on the next rep til he was done with the weaves, so that is definitely something to train on (changes of pace while he is weaving).
Okay definitely will put it on my list to work on.
Thank you Tracy

ParticipantHe was awesome. The pattern games got him going. Have 2 videos for your review. I could see he was so focused and happy so I let him take couple jumps.
Video 2 I took him to the beginning of the run to see if he would stay focus and happy. Again, and just let him play. I guess my question is how do I get him to be this high when we got into the ring without food. Maybe I am jumping ahead ๐
Video 3
I had Knight scheduled to run in a young international seminar so today I thought I alternate with my other boy. Before he entered the ring we did do the pattern game. My main purpose was to have him run happy and focus abd as you can see he was
Video 4 This was his last run. Again main purpose happy and focus.
Again I will be running him Tuesday in a class at the building where he shutdown also this coming Saturday he can run FEO in speedstakes

ParticipantHow did he do on Day 2 with the steak & cheese? I am trying to get a feel for his preferences and what helps him ๐
Steak definitely higher then chicken and then cheese.
Also I should add on the second day we used the Treat and Train. Sat on the ground and let him go over the jump himself and clicked the Treat and Train and/or gave him steak. He started focusing and did couple jumps and ran out of the ring happy. Second time. He was in shutdown mode again and just engage with him on the floor as same at the first time out. Third time out. The Treat and Train was put in front of the jump. He took it. Next moved the Treat and Train about 2 feet. Over the jump by doing a backside and right to the Treat and Train. Did this 2 more times. Then he just did a sequence of 6 jumps focused and confident. Hope this gives you some insight. To help him *not* shut down, the pattern games are going to be a great first step. When is your next scheduled seminar or place where he might struggle? We can make a plan ๐
Next scheduled event is this weekend. On Friday I will be doing run through a with him. (Will have 2 or 3 sessions in the run through.) I was planning on doing the 2 pattern games and spinning outside of the ring and then inside and gage him. This will be a location that he has only been there once or twice just walking in the building and doing a practice jump. If need be, I can also do another run through on Sunday.
Also I have planned to do a class on Tuesday at the place where he shutdown at the seminar. He has been to this place many times and was running great. I want to see how he responses in a class environment there again.

ParticipantHow did class go? Was he happy and focused?
Class was great. He was focused, running and barking like the little dynamo he is.
It sounds like he was concerned about the pressure perhaps? In the seminar, did you have the treats with you? And, you can also develop a hierarchy of treats: for the practice jump, he can get lower value treats. For entering the ring, you can bring out the amazing treats like cheese or chicken. What are some of his favorites?
Yes I had his regular treats the first day. On the second day I had a variety of treats – steak, cheese, and his regular treats.
Favorites Definitely chicken, steak, cheese, etc.
We will develop a series of games that you can use to help him enter the ring with confidence, so practicing the pattern games and then doing the tricks as you move to the line are an excellent start! And later in class, we will be teaching him to do it all without the treats in the ring too ๐
okay
Thank you so much

ParticipantThe sequencing will be fun too, of course, but it sounds like he is doing great on course when he is comfortable.
Yes he does great when he is comfortable. He runs UKI master courses in class.
I did the 2 pattern games with the lead and without the lead at home yesterday and his latency was low.
Today in class while waiting to go into the ring, I did the 2 pattern games lead and off lead as well as the spin that he knows and he did great. Before our run in class I did the 2 pattern game again along with the spin and no issue.I am guessing he is motivated by food? Does he like toys too? And it sounds like moving really helps get him pumped up, based on how he enjoys running over the contacts ๐
Yes very food motivated. When I started working on certain turns, etc, I used the Treat Holding Fleece Toy that Clean Run sales.
Toys, He loves to tug but only at home.
Yes I believe moving helps. Note: I have tried working on the practice jump with him outside the seminar and he loved working, but going into the ring he shutdown. -
