    Hi Tracy,

So here is how the walk thru should go:
    – 1st walk thru: connection points, general handling options, some verbals, spot-check dog’s line
    – 2nd walk thru: verbals, connection points
    – 3rd walk thru: try to run around people with connection and verbals.

What about visualization? Any advice on what to focus on?

Here are my 3 favorite runs of the weekend. Most proud of being the 1st dog and doing better than I expected. I like having lots of time to obsess on the visualization, so I am proving to myself the walk thru is more important, thoughts?

I will be resting for the next two weeks, recovering from the PRP, and then on vacation to the Chesapeake Bay with Bill and the dogs. So, I won’t have time to finish Camp 2022 for you to review. It was an awesome experience, and I am hoping that the walk thru advice is a breakthrough (ha, it almost rhymes).

I have to review the videos from the Cup so that I can write down the list of gaps and strengths, I have lots of homework, I want him to turn much tighter off tunnels on command, and I need to do more A-frames, and many more πŸ™‚

I had also a great experience with Gamblers on Sunday, I could not get a plan for the opening until maybe half way thru the walk thru, but then I had an awesome opening, with the whistle blowing as I had finished the last obstacle before the closing, however, I did not connect with Grizzly to show him the the hidden entry of a tunnel and he missed it: lessons learn, practice connection including the closing!!! Ha!

I saw Bobbie on Sunday, and I am thinking about going to the seminars you are organizing with her and Y2K9s, please keep me posted since I am not on FB much and will love to attend.

    That’s all for now πŸ™‚

Thanks again, love learning from you!!

    Hi Tracy,

Awesome, awesome, I am at a trial this weekend, last one before I take a break since I am getting PRP treatment on my knee tomorrow (can’t wait)!!

I practiced what you said, I am writing it in here for you to review and for my own records:
    – Looked at map to understand course, determine connection points, verbals and potential handling.
    – 1st walk thru, look at dog’s line
    – 2nd walk thru: connection points, general handling options, some verbals
    – 3rd walk thru: verbals, connection
    – 4th walk thru: try to run around people with connection and verbals.

This morning, I had Speedstakes first, course designed by MEB. I am the 1st dog on the line! Everyone is complaining about the course, really hard. I loved it! He have a wrong course for not turning tight enough out of a back tunnel (I’ll send you the video later), but I was extremely happy.

Let’s see how it goes for the next courses. You know MEB courses are hard with lots of tunnels πŸ™‚

But Grizzly is getting faster, yesterday we E in all the runs except for Speedstakes, it was clean and beautiful!! And we were the fastest dog of all heights (finally at the end of the day πŸ™‚ ).

    More to come πŸ™‚

    Hi Tracy,

Thanks for the feedback, yes, I keep noticing that my faults at connection in the run thrus make the run with the dog harder. I loved what you say, and yes please keep bugging me about it.

So walk thrus should concentrate on connection and verbals. I am also finding I am a bit challenged by the spacial awareness, so that is also something else I concentrate on the walk thru, so it is a lot of stuff for 7 mins. And at the UKI trials when it is tall to small I am usually the first dog or very close to it and it does not give me enough time to rehearse the run πŸ™

    Thanks for all the feedback!!

    Hi Tracy,

I am back, I did give Grizzly a break, and then I went to the UKI Cup. Lots of learning, the courses were really hard with skills that we have not trained for, lots of layering and off courses.

Courses where so intense it required 100% concentration from #1 to the last obstacle. And on top of it I had one of those months where the menopause was giving me a horrible migraine that lasted till Saturday.

But I did spend good times with friends, with Linda and saw some folks I had not seen for years!! I also realized Grizzly has some great skills but I need much more to handle these type of courses. Wow, I have lots of training to do hahaha.

I did Pack 4 ESC today, here it is. I really liked it, and it gave me the chance to handle the courses many different ways.

    Looking forward to your feedback.

    Thanks,

    Hi Tracy,

    More videos for you πŸ™

I worked yesterday the Live class 3, it was fun. I also tried the WP entry, you’ll see the video below. On the β€œopen” entry, I moved the WP to make a bit more challenging and I broke him πŸ™ Not on the video. But then today I made it easier again and he was still stressing over it, so I added 1 guide and he did better (not on the video either so I am not sure why I am mentioning hahaha).

Linda and I worked on the Pack 4, Standard course. I had problems with the contact execution.

AF: I don’t think Grizzly likes the AF at this site since it it not rubberized. At home or trials I have not seen these many errors.

DW: his left exit was not good, so more training. The right exit was better.

Course 2, had a few new handling maneuvers I had not trained these ones with him, including a 180 degree exit from the seesaw :-). So that was a harder course.

    But in all, loving it.

    Hi Tracy,

I hesitated a lot about sending you this video, I changed a few of the handling options, but I still had a lot of trouble on course 2, 12 to 14. You’ll see a few attempts, but it was not pretty. I think it was both handling and training issues, but I like that I was in β€œtraining mode” :-).

BTW, last Sunday at the AKC trial, I did like how I did my run through, and my actual run. The STD course was changed after I video my run thru, and I also changed the approach to the table (I had walked it as a BC as well), and it came to bite me.

One more question, on the JWW, I was very confused about the WP entry, I thought Grizzly had entered wrong. I did not know until someone mentioned to me that he had entered correctly. I was VERY disappointed at myself, after so many years training and competing, after 5 dogs, WHY??? Do you mind giving me your feedback?

    Thanks,

    Nelci and Grizzly

    Hi Tracy,

I love your reverse order idea. I would need to do it when I repeat pack 3 STD course. We did it this morning, and I like the recording of the run thru, I am learning a lot about it, and I really understand what you are saying. My handling on the run thru is kind of lalalala, instead of being with the intensity I need to run it with Grizzly, it is like just going thru the motions.

I have an AKC show on Sunday and I will try to record my run thru and see …

This morning was very hot, so it was short. The second course was very challenging, good challenging πŸ™‚

    No side by side πŸ™‚

    Thanks, Nelci and Grizzly

    Hi Tracy,

Great feedback, thanks. The only question I have is regarding your last sentence: “and the spots where you were not supporting the verbals as well were all in the walk through, versus what you had to do to cue the line in the run.” So, I know that is one of my weaknesses, but how do I improve it? Is it more visualization after the walk, exaggerating my handling on the walk? Before you answer take a look at the below πŸ˜‰

This morning I worked on the ESC for package 3. A few things I noticed.
    1) I really struggle in small spaces when I have no where to go.
    2) At home, where I guess I was “comfortable” I defaulted to the verbals without any difference in intonation, urgh!!! It was really “flat” throughout, oh boy!!
    3) On the side-by-side run thru vs. run, I am not supporting sharp or hard turns with my handling in the walk thru enough to succeed in the run with the dog. So it may be an example of your sentence above, right?

4 Videos, the entire thing so that you can see it better, and one video with the side-by-side for each course. I need to show less “grass” so that I can do the split horizontally vs. vertically, more learning πŸ™‚

    Hi Tracy,

Package 3 is lots of fun! We went straight into the Courses, I’ll do the Challenges later this week.

There are two videos for each course, since I have a separate video for the side-by-side. I need to “time” the WP better in my run thru πŸ™‚

My objective on the 1st course was to do a 1st Run Best Run. For the 2nd course I did give me the chance to do it more times, since I knew it was more challenging for me πŸ™‚

    1st course:

    Side by side

    2nd Course:

Looking forward to the feedback and see you tonight πŸ™‚

    Hi Tracy,

Yes, Kenme is a general β€œtake a jump and turn a little” cue and the left and right are the L shaped turns.

Please continue nagging me about my intonations, I like your suggestions about tunneltunneltunneltunnel, and more “corre”, please continue reminding me (you have my full permission hahaha). I am getting better, and I am now remembering on course if I am mot giving them a bit of more different intonations.

On the second course, the line 6-7, I have a different verbal for a 180 for two jumps “shasha”, I just needed to trust him more πŸ™‚ I like that verbal for this type of discriminations, if I say Left, it could also be tunnel, but with Shasha he should now it is not the tunnel, makes sense?

I like your suggestion about the spin, but I am not doing them as often so I forget about it πŸ™‚

Are the Plyo exercises you mentioned to me before part of the LYD Camp 2022? (I have not looked at package 3 yet).

BTW, I did not get an email for your comments today πŸ™

    Thanks,

    Hi Tracy,

Pack 2 – Jumper courses. We did good with big distractions, Linda was able to video the distraction, and he did very well, but it also messed up my game on the 1st try and then I was able to relax.

A few things I noticed, I forgot a verbal, and I did not trust him on course #2 6-7, causing the off course tunnel πŸ™

New verbal: “Kenme” meaning soft turn, used for both L or R. Continue using Left and Right for the sharper turn, and “zip/taap” for the wraps to the L and R. I may also add a new verbal for the wrap out of the tunnel (not as common, I think).

Are you coming to the UKI NE Cup at Barto, PA?

    Thanks,

Nelci and Grizzly (and the horses hahaha).

    Hi Tracy,

Yes I do a lot of plyometrics when I don’t have the pool up, in the summer is all swimming time, since I have not time for other stuff (works gets in the way hahaha).

I have not done any jump grids either this summer, so I may start adding that up.

I have also been working on the verbal intonations, but this is a routine I need to get down and override the old one, so it will take a bit to get used to it. I don’t say the verbals allowed since I don’t want people to hear me talking while I am walking the course πŸ˜‰

Thanks again, and looking forward to package 3!!

    Hi Tracy,

Second attempt to the Package 2 – STD courses, much better, and better at using verbals. Still a few things I would have liked to improve, but too hot so decided to leave it alone. I.e., sill over handling WP πŸ™

I also added a few more obstacles for course 2, since I wanted to do the DW the other way with the opposite side of the tunnel πŸ™‚

I am going to start working on refining verbals in the coming weeks …

    Thank you!!

Hi Tracy, thanks for all the feedback.

AF: He usually does a 3-hit AF, but I like when he does a 2-hit and it is correct.

Verbals: I am training a back wrap verbal (β€œround”) vs. a back side slice β€œback”. Not sure why on Friday I couldn’t get my verbals out. For example I needed the Right after the DW, but it is hard for me to concentrate on watching the DW and getting out the next verbal while getting to position (bad at multitasking hehehe).

I am going to start training a soft verbal, the one Martina uses is β€œKenme” and I like it, and then re-train the right and left. I also need to do this on the DW, and continue using the tunnel verbals on the contacts and WP, which was my plan all along πŸ™‚

We will repeat this tomorrow morning, let’s hope my brain remembers all of it πŸ˜‰

    Thanks again,

    Hi Tracy,

Pack 2, STD course. This was early in the morning and Grizzly was exited!! Mainly with the horses in the next pasture, I lost him once to the horses πŸ™

He also self released from the seesaw once, I put a tunnel bag on the down side and it pushed on the seesaw making it lighter, but I think it was a good test πŸ™‚

One bad RDW, but the rest were nice! Sorry the video is a bit over 3 mins πŸ™

This one was hard for me, and I kept yelling his name a lot.

I decided not to use the right / left verbals on the soft turns, I am still deciding if I need to say jump or a new command, maybe that is why I am yelling his name hahaha, it may take a few tries till I get it right πŸ™‚

    Thanks!!

    Nelci and Grizzly.
